Cam'ron, the general of the Dip-set, is using his platinum-selling status to help promote his team, as well his own ventures, including a soon-to-be-launched clothing line, Dipset Apparel, and an investment in "Club Envy," a nightclub located on Main St. in downtown Columbus, Ohio. Protégé Juelz Santana, who's album From Me To You drops on August 19, recently opened Santana's Town - also the name of his debut single - an innovative boutique clothing store showcasing his original designs on Amsterdam Ave. in Harlem. Cam explains that he and Santana have a no competitive rivalry going on when it comes to branching out.
"It's all politics at the end of the day," explains Cam'ron as to why he and good friend Santana, feel the need to continually delve into fresh entrepreneurial projects. "Whether it's music or sports, the competitiveness is the same. That's why I named one of my albums Sports, Drugs And Entertainment. Whether you hustle, play basketball or rap you're in the entertainment business, all three are competitive."
But make no bones about it, the Dip-Set haven't quit their day job. Cam'ron's new disc, titled Purple Hayes, is tentatively scheduled for release on December 9th. 2002's Come Home With Me, went platinum, certifying Cam as a force in the business. When he's not doing his own projects or lending his craft to the Dips, Cam also lends his skills to other artists, including several remixes with both R. Kelly ("Snake") and Bonecrusher ("Never Scared"). Santana, who was recently promoted to vice president of the group's label, Diplomat /Roc-A-Fella Records, remains active with the Diplomats' business matters, and preparing for the release his highly anticipated debut album next week.
