illmatic was the best for its time cause it really stood out from the gangsta rap that dominated the rap scene back then with the whole east coast west coast beef

i gotta go wit illmatic by a sliver. stillmatic was hott but the spits on illmatic were sick. "my mic check is life or death breathin a sniper's breath"; " i never sleep cuz sleep is the cousin of death"-----those sparked my attention when i first heard it. if someone wants to quote somethin off Stillmatic or God's Son be my guest, but im goin wit illmatic.

Illmatic is his only classic and I hate to get into the same discussion in different threads, but how the hell can you see an album from two years ago as a classic and how the hell do you picture Gods Son to be a classic?

Oh and how the hell can you not like Illmatic?

i think some people don't like Illmatic cuz it has that old skool feel that a lot of cats dont' like......lyric wise, the album is on top, but that old skool feel turns away younger ones....

i actually like the newer beats for songs like "The World Is Yours" and "Lifes a B***h" on Illmatic Anniversary cd, a mix of old skool lyrics wit more modern beats

HoBGoBLiN
01-18-2005, 06:41 AM
Outta those three Im goin Illmatic just over Stillmatic

Stillmatic was better lyrically though, songs like You're da Man, One Mic and What Goes Around are all classic, Rule is a shit beat but what he's sayin is spot on.. Even the Intro is a bangin tune, and of course, Ether

Id say his best albums go:

1. Illmatic
2. Stillmatic
3. Streets Disciple
4. It Was Written
5. Gods Son
6. I Am...
7. Nastradamus

I dunno where Lost Tapes fits into those...

i don't agree with any of them....i'm going with THE LOST TAPES

i was going to say why but this guy said it, but better:

'The Lost Tapes is vintage Nas, the prolific ghetto raconteur. On "Drunk by Myself" he goes into the dark recesses of a burdened alcoholic's brain. "Poppa Was a Playa" pays an honest and compelling homage to his father, trumpeter (and womanizer) Olu Dara. On "Black Zombie," an Afrocentric manifesto, and "Purple" you get large glimpses of the introspective, socially aware Nas who hip-hop heads had anointed as one of the greatest emcees of all time. The modish piano loop and jazz inflections of "Doo Rags," and the slow, rolling bass lines on "U Gotta Love It," help make this compilation shockingly better than all of Nas's post-Illmatic commercial releases. Why the suits at Columbia/Sony decided to wait until 2002 to let Nasty Nas loose is anyone's guess.'

God's Son was good not solid.. 4/5 i didnt like a few tracks at the end, started off strong though, Stillmatic had some bumps too 4.5/5, Illmatic was 5/5, Lost Tapes was 5/5, It Was Written was 5/5 but not as good as Illmatic

Illmatic is beyond classic its the Greatest Album of All-Time period...
It Was Written is borderline classic, AA, Message, Gave you Power = classic songs
I Am... 4/5 solid
Nastradamus 2.5/5 weak
Lost Tapes 5/5 can I call this a classic?.. if there was a 2x album like planned it with those 3 combined it and filler cut it would've been classic

Stillmatic is really 4.5 but it got 5 mics, so i suppose its borderline classic
God's Son starts out classic but some weak songs 4.5/5
Streets Disciple got some filler some poor beat choices 4.5/5

His whole career has been friggen classic

It was written would of been considered more than a classic, if anybody but nas had made it.

Illmatic is definatley better, but It was written just happened to be right after it, so it is somehow eclipsed bby Illmatics greatness..

actually it did have guest appearances.

street's disciple sucked aside from a few songs , illmatic >stillmatic by a hair .. both by far his best shit tho .. good thread .

Umm No It Didn't.. AZ Wasn't Even heard of At The Time.. After AZ Dropped That Ill Ass Verse That's What Got Him Signed...

The Following Year He Dropped "Doe Or Die" So As Nas Said Before.. "No Famous Guest Apperances?" It's Right...

And I'm Personal opinions About Nas Album's Everyone Has a Different Take On It.. Some Are Bigger Nas Fans Then Most Are Period...

Some Like Certain Albums Better Than Others, Which Is Good Cause If Everybody Liked The Same Thing, There Would Be No Hiphop...

But This Is The order I Catagories Nas's Albums

Illmatic - Dope Album All Around Nothing You Could Really Say Bad About This Album imo...

It Was Written - This Album Was Just a Step Away From Illmatic ppl Sleep On Thios Album When The Lyricism On This Was Stupid ILL... He Even Embraced Creativity On Track Number Four Where He Talks About Being a Gun.. That Concept Was So Ill Name Anyone That's Ever Done That? Better Yet You You a Story In That Form...The Beats Could've Been Better But It Was Still Runner Up From Illmatic in My opinion....

Lost Tapes - This Album Relates To Illmatic To Me But More Up To Date w/ Story Tellin and Creativity.. He Let Alot Of His Emotions Go On This Album ppl Continue To Sleep On Good Talent...

Stillmatic - This Was The Come Back Kid Album For me.. Alot Of ppl Doubted That Nas Could Bring Back The Fire He Once Had and He Proved It On This Album and Not To Mention How He Destroyed Jay-Z, Enough Said...

I Am - This Was a Good Album, But It Lacked What The Other Albums Had Previously Stated Above.. But Better Quality Beats and Still Tight Lyricism "Nas Is Like" - Good Street Anthem, "Big Things" Something Nas Has Never Did Was Spit Fast Pretty Dope For His Speed.. "Ghetto Prisoners" etc. "life Is What You Make It" f/ Dmx, A "Favor For a Favor" - Featuring Scarface I Thought This Album Was Still Dope To Say None The Less..

Nastradamous - This Album Gots It Ups And Downs But Still imo This Album Was Dope, The "Life We Chose" - Dope Track, "God Loves Us" Good Track "Project Windows" f/ Ron Isley - One Of My Favorites On This Album "Last Words" f/ Millenium Thug aka Nashawn That Song Follows Up To THe Nas "Gun Song, Nas Rewind Song, He Raps About Being a Prison Cell Once Again Name any Emcee That's Dropped Such a Dope Gem Such As This Song No One Has...Family f/ Mobb Deep, More Of a Gutter Street Song But It's Still Relates To The Streets Definetly If You From The Hood You Should Be Able To Relate To Some Sort....

Street Disciple - One Of My Least Favorite Album's From Nas Still Have a Couple Of Cuts On Em...But It Seems Like he Tried To Do Too Much...imo
Out Of All His Album's THis Was The Most Inconsistant Album Nas Has Ever Dropped Since He's Been In The Game Even His Lyrics On QB Finest Was Sick

YoungStylez
07-16-2006, 02:11 AM
honestly illmatic is one of the greatest LP's in hip hop history. The production and his lyrical display was fire. Nas will NEVER NEVER NEVER get back to where he was lyrically on that album. Stillmatic was his most angry and God's Son was his most emotional/personal. Both great albums, but not comparable to Illmatic. Even Jay Z has said that Illmatic was his motivation and inspiration to do Reasonable Doubt. And Jay even sampled two songs off of Illmatic "Dead Presidents" and "Rap Game/Crack Game"

I agree with piOneer about that new girl posting pointless things in all the threads. It is one of the most annoying things you can do. How did she get repped??? But back to the question...

''Illmatic'' in my view is one of the best Hip-Hop albums of all time, It has genuine lyrics with banging beats and should be listed as one of the best albums made by an artist. ''Stillmatic'' is another classic Hip-Hop album but doesn't come close to the quality of ''Illmatic'', and with this comeback album, Nas proved he's one of the most talented and original rappers to ever pic up the mic. ''God's Son'' is another album that shows Nas to be one of the most creative lyricists, especially with track's like 'Book Of Rhymes' but it isn't on the same level as ''Illmatic'' or ''Stillmatic''. But all three albums are Hip-Hop classics.
