All those years of studying have finally paid off. I have just landed my first real job (read, more than $8/hr) as a web developer and all I can say is a year tax free in Iraq as an E-4 with nearly 6 years in... is way less than what I'll be earning now.

Now to uh, finish my degree :) I wonder what that raise will look like...

The nicest part of it is that I still have cash from Iraq collecting interest in my savings, even after I paid off my school loans. :D

For $$$, I'm already doing one free site for my portfolio for someone else. Although that was so I can get a job, now I already have one but it may have use later so I still plan on finishing that.

Stay safe and don't wast money on PX junk, buy stuff when you get home and you don't have to worry about things overheating (PS3's and XBOX360's do that all the time) or getting clogged with sand and dust.

When I was there I put 99% of my income into an ING savings account and earned plenty of interest. Now I get to spoil myself on things that I really want. :)

$8.00 an hour is minimum wage down here lol average is $10 an hour
damn americans lol and even out west in like B.C. you can make $13 an hour workin at subway
but shit is alot more pricey out there

I work 12 hours a week from 3am till 7am on sunday, monday and thursday and get paid $22.50 an hour, because of the hours though. I do telemarketing, fucking boring job - yesterday talked to a guy for 40mins about tabacco and then leading onto street drugs was pretty buzzy.

^^ I swear to god if some cunt rang me between those hours, id hire someone to track them down and have them skinned alive hahaha

This new job is more than $22.50/hr and it's full time. That means 40 hrs a week plus paid time off...

Either way, places with a higher minimum wage have a a higher cost of living. In MD the minimum is around $6/hr. The $8/hr figure is for Federal Work Study. That rate is fixed, and it's only for college students that want to go to school and work.
