What you's think of these?
Note: The last 5 mic album is the last 5 mic the Source have given.
Tom.B 11-02-2007, 10:51 AM Lil Kim should never have received 5 mics....then they wonder why they lost all credibility...
Plug Zero 11-02-2007, 11:02 AM Yea I don't really disagree with any. I'm especially happy they have Brand Nubian, Ice Cube, Slick Rick and De La up there.
But hey, they haven't really lost credibility cause they gave Lil Kim five mics. It's not as if they hand out 5 mic ratings like they aint nuthin. I mean jeez, only 43 over a span of 23 years.
Tony.. 11-02-2007, 11:09 AM College drop out shoulda been 5 mics... aside from that one a few others, i always thought that the Source did a pretty good job w/ their 5 mic selections
Tom.B 11-02-2007, 12:04 PM Yea I don't really disagree with any.
I hear you.....but that little Kim album sticks out like a sore thumb next the the rest of the albums.....wtf were they thinking....
Bakke 11-02-2007, 12:13 PM College drop out shoulda been 5 mics...
Not really.. That would nearly be as stupid as giving lil'kim 5 mics...
Wu-Tang Forever should easily been a 5 mic album. Stillmatic didn't deserve 5 mics.. Why isn't there any G Rap albums therE?
.ScottishHead 11-02-2007, 12:56 PM I've got that Lil Kim album and it's definetly not 5 mics. Liquid Swords should have got 5mics, what's that all about?
NinjaMic 11-02-2007, 01:22 PM The officially ammended their 5 mic lists once, I remember... they went back and rerated publically credited classics and 5 mic'ers... this was after the whole Benzino fall out.
Honestly... are they wrong on any of these, I think. These are albums that p[op up in everybody's lists at some point and it shows in some way - the time frame of the artist and how it fit in with or directed it's peers and era from then on... or how they ofdten when on to become something huge, or a cult favorite at least.
Is Lil Kim's album really that terrible, or are we just jaded like many people were about say - Ready to Die 14 years ago - when they were calling classics in the 80's. 'course they gave that album 5 mics in the same years they refused to give Em more than 4 for ANYTHING.
Nirvana 11-02-2007, 01:46 PM Mister Jeezy got five mics "YEEEEEEEEAAAAAHHH"
Tom.B 11-02-2007, 01:51 PM Mister Jeezy got five mics "YEEEEEEEEAAAAAHHH"
Now way....that true??
-Maple- 11-02-2007, 02:14 PM smh at naked truth
Seamo 11-02-2007, 02:35 PM I still don't know how Liquid Swords ws never given 5 mics.
HUGE mystery to me
the `w` by the wu-tang clan only got 3 1/2 mics , i thought that was a pretty shitty rating cos it`s a solid album maye 4 or 4 1/2... yeah lil kim was a big mistake , also i agree stillmatic had good moments but it`s no 5 mic, i think they felt they had to after they gave `the blueprint` 5 mics! also `like water for chocolate & black on both sides could of possibly been 5 mics in my eyes , anyone agree?? yeah gza`s is a glaring omission!
DrUnK-N-MuNkY 11-02-2007, 03:21 PM lol
glad to see my nigga face-mob(Scarface)
Shift 11-02-2007, 03:44 PM Liquid Swords is a definite 5 mic. Some bull from the Source giving lil Kim it and not GZA.
Hell yes with Nas being the first to achieve 5 mics. Glad BDP is up there as well.
Ama-gi 11-02-2007, 05:58 PM The only one I'd prolly take off is Lil' Kim. I'd add a few, though.

bolded - 5 mics + 30-40 other albums
Lil' Kim's is the only one I have a serious problem wit as others said.
And I wouldn't neccessarily say Chronic 2001 is 5 mics, probably 4 1/2, it had about 2-3 songs I don't like too much.
Also I don't like Radio (or LL Cool J for that matter), that's probably just my personal opinion though.
Florida Breeze 11-02-2007, 07:31 PM Good post.
Florida Breeze 11-02-2007, 07:32 PM Actually....didn't The Clipse get 5 mics for Hell Hath No Fury?
Actually....didn't The Clipse get 5 mics for Hell Hath No Fury?
Nah they got an XXL rating from XXL
Florida Breeze 11-02-2007, 07:37 PM ^ Oh, okay. They should have gotten 5 mics though!
As well as Liquid Swords as many others have mentioned. That's the best lyrical album of all-time...it's mind boggling.
On the flip side however, Liquid Swords has gotten more respect over time.
Maybe The Source should consider having a "5 Mics We Missed" section, where they give classics that were slept on in their time their proper due after all these years. It might bring some respect back to The Source, and generate a bit of interest in real hip hop.

AlphaOmega123 11-02-2007, 11:08 PM ^ Are you kidding me? Besides Lil Kim, I don't agree with you at all.
I'll answer this the best I can.. Life after death is a great album but it isn't ready to die or even close to it.
All eyes on me is a commercial pac and I honestly don't like it.
Snoop cannot rap, No he can't flow at all and his lyrics are simplistic.
I think he is overrated and I think the sort of party rap he does lacks substance/soul. He is not music and I think he should be ashamed of himself.
The fix for me is when I stopped caring about scarface.
Sorry but compared to his prior shit it aint no fucking classic.
stillmatic is dope but again not a 5 star album.
Nas has one five star album and a bunch of great albums that are almost classic.
I don't just label anything good as 5 star that's obnoxious.
Tommy Bunz 11-02-2007, 11:20 PM You've not even heard most of them.
LOL I was thinking the same thing when I read that.
Most Underrated 11-03-2007, 01:20 AM Yeah Liquid Swords should be there no doubt and no Marshall Mathers LP is ridiculous. Life after Death is an easy classic what u sayin?
AlphaOmega123 11-03-2007, 02:08 AM Yeah Liquid Swords should be there no doubt and no Marshall Mathers LP is ridiculous. Life after Death is an easy classic what u sayin?
No ready to die was classic , life after death is more popular but to call it classic when the lyrics have clearly be dumbed down a bit would be wrong on my part.
I'd give it a "4" not a "5"
NinjaMic 11-03-2007, 10:36 AM LMAO @ Snoop can't flow. Snoop IS flow... and everything about his style back then was soul, 70's motown to the core. A twisted, maligned Al Green... little bit of Bishop Don Magic Juan... Snoop's rythm and vocal cadence IS music.
IMO the substance found in droppin' knowledge and game, for general pimpery, is far more valuable to the youth than political conjecture and high-brow philosophy. "Gettin' paid youngblood, gettin' paid!" - his whole personality and style, his content... was brand new in the early 90's.
Murder Was the Case... that track was deep, spiritual, socially relevant, conceptually executed to perfection, accessable, memorable, catchy, melodic, rythmic... you let your hate for anything that isn't multisyllabic or metaphoric invalidate whatever quality is present in rap.
That album was easily one of the most flawlessly, produced hip-hop albums of all time. In terms of G Funk sampling, it's unmatched, and the actual mix and master of the album was like ten years ahead of it's time in quality...
NinjaMic 11-03-2007, 10:37 AM "tryin' to get intellectual, directin to wether making a negative record's more intellectual"
RIP B.I.G. 11-03-2007, 12:39 PM Yeah Liquid Swords should be there no doubt and no Marshall Mathers LP is ridiculous. Life after Death is an easy classic what u sayin?
I agree. Life After Death is a definite classic, to me. And Eminem should be there somewhere, and MMLP is the best he's got. Liquid Swords is a GLARING omission. I wish The Source would occasionally admit to albums they've gotten wrong.
Killer Cosgrove 11-03-2007, 12:45 PM You've not even heard most of them.
I actually laughed when you said that, because you are so funny.
Seriously though it's a bit childish to try and say something like that when you in fact know nothing about me. Ahh well, i ain't mad...just dissapointed.

AlphaOmega123 11-04-2007, 03:12 PM LMAO @ Snoop can't flow. Snoop IS flow'
No he isn't.
Do you know what a flow is? A rhythim there is no rhythim to the shit he spits he is a basic rapper who happens to have a good voice that's it.
And if you didn't jock the west coast so hard you would realize that...
... and everything about his style back then was soul, 70's motown to the core. A twisted, maligned Al Green...
... His style? He fucking had jamie foxx singing and dr dre producing for him yes his shit was funky no that doesn't make his raps good.
I'm sorry but you come off as ignorant Pun=flow, snoop=bad marketing scheme that can't be stopped.

Of course it isn't Ready to Die. Its Life After Death; two different fuckin albums. What you said would only make sense to FUCKING NO ONE.
Drastik Da God 11-04-2007, 04:42 PM No he isn't.

Do you know what Rhythm is? Its something you lack and is spelled without an "i".
But clearly you haven't, everyone of your posts are co signs/bandwagon type comments with no insight, and no discussion, it's easy to see.
And Scotty... you should really stop talking down to people who look up to you so much... LOL. Makes you look like a douche. ;)
I bet Killa won't be on the site for a few days if you hurt his feelings again.

Drastic isn't spelled with a "K", do you see that as a valid argument against your music?
Hmm so a spelling error makes snoop better how exactly? I have rhythm I end on beat but I'm certainly no great... honestly though neither is he.
He sounds like a second rate domino.

I'm not talkin down to him, I'm posting the truth. He hasn't heard all of those albums. He came here as a T.I. dickrider and commcercial rap lover, then after a week of studying others posts he all of a sudden heard albums like Brand Nubian's "One For All", Run DMC's selftitled album, EPMD's "Strictly Business" and Geto Boy's" "Grip It! On That Other Level". I seriously doubt it, especially since he said the last album he bought was "Marshall Mathers LP". He's our typical HHF bandwagon poster, and it's not just me that says this.
He said he's heard all of these, and is calling everyone a 5/5 classic.

Yes well I'm sure when he gets done buying out little kids sports teams and acting like a 13 year old rather than a middle aged man, who burned out a decade ago he'll get around to the internet posters.
NinjaMic 11-05-2007, 10:41 AM No he isn't.

I give props to anybody, from any region, that's good. I jock hip-hop in general... you jock shit I was listening to ten years ago, and hate almost every rapper that isn't horrorcore, or doesn't sound like Chino, Pun, Ras Kass, Immortal Technique, Canibus etc, or has sold more than 1 million albums.
... His style? He fucking had jamie foxx singing and dr dre producing for him yes his shit was funky no that doesn't make his raps good.
I'm sorry but you come off as ignorant Pun=flow, snoop=bad marketing scheme that can't be stopped.
The point to his style was being a chill, laid back Bishop Don Magic Juan kind of cat, just speakin' in rhyme, you'll see it in time/the way to break a bitch is by freakin' her mind... the Temptations meets 90's compton. Death Row's g funk production complimented it, and his persona complimented the g funk.
Pun = alot of syllables and words crammed into one bar, relying on syncopation and speed to stay in metre - it's a byproduct of intriciate, long syllable patterns where you sacrifice fluidity for complexity...
Snoop = effortless rythm... it's like he's not even trying and the rhymes just happen, form and fit fluidly - as if he's not even thinkin' about it, in freestyle yet with total confidence and direct, melodic delivery... that's what makes his flow so smoothe
"80/degrees as I tell that bitch please, raise up off these N U T S 'cause you gets none of these, at ease... as a mob with the dogg pound, feel the breeze."
"it's the capital S oh yes, I'm fresh N double O P, D O double G Y D O double G ya see"
Smooth... breathless... seamless flow. Hate it or love it.
Drastik Da God 11-05-2007, 11:54 AM Snoop raps his name out the best.^
Better than P.Monche and K.G.Rap, IMO.
Tom.B 11-05-2007, 12:25 PM Snoop raps his name out the best.^
He always did.....
Killer Cosgrove 11-05-2007, 01:52 PM I'm not talkin down to him, I'm posting the truth.

A bit of reason and logic, then you realize what a bunch of see through lies that his posts are. Some of those albums I never heard til last year.
Seriously mate, "Is Ricky Martin not having a concert? Get The Fuck On" I still do like T.I. i'm not gonna try to deny that...I will even admit i like 50 Cent, but c'mon, be real none of those albums are 'strictly' underground enough for me to have never heard them. So get the fuck off my case.
p.s. Drastik The God...Get the fuck off Scottys dick. Saying I love him and GreenY and shit, you know nothing...this ain't your arguement so stay out of it. OK.

AlphaOmega123 11-05-2007, 03:03 PM I give props to anybody, from any region, that's good. I jock hip-hop in general... you jock shit I was listening to ten years ago, and hate almost every rapper that isn't horrorcore, or doesn't sound like Chino, Pun, Ras Kass, Immortal Technique, Canibus etc, or has sold more than 1 million albums.
Yes because ras kass and canibus are real horrorcore aren't they? Dip shit
And I don't like immortal tech.
The point to his style was being a chill
No he could not rap, I don't care if he's laid back the man has no flow.
He just talks and leaves a rhyme at the end of his bars. He couldn't out rap anybody anywhere.
Pun = alot of syllables and words crammed into one bar, relying on syncopation and speed to stay in metre - it's a byproduct of intriciate, long syllable patterns where you sacrifice fluidity for complexity...
LOL just because pun could articulate his words quickly and make a rhythm and rhyme more than shit it style rhymes shouldn't be a down side. The man next to someone like snoop is like putting nas next to chingy.
Sorry but just no... Listen to deep cover and listen to pun n fat joes version I think it's obvious who's better.
And snoop has never had rhythm effortless or other wise.
Bakke 11-05-2007, 04:16 PM Even though I hate agreeing with alpha, come on.. Don't try to make it sound like Snoop is worse than Pun.. Snoop was dope, but he wasn't even close to Pun.
NinjaMic 11-06-2007, 10:46 AM Yes because ras kass and canibus are real horrorcore aren't they? Dip shit

Notice this word between "horrorcore" and the long list of rappers... see it? It says "or"... awesome huh?

1, 2, 3 RHYME - isn't flow. You confuse tempo with flow.
LOL just because pun could articulate his words quickly and make a rhythm and rhyme more than shit it style rhymes shouldn't be a down side. The man next to someone like snoop is like putting nas next to chingy.
Uh, but it is when it comes to the subject of flow. If you start to cram more words into your bars, your flow will become rushed. That's just the way it is.
Sorry but just no... Listen to deep cover and listen to pun n fat joes version I think it's obvious who's better.
"They wanna meet with me tonight at 7 oclock" - listen to the way he delivers that... it's perfect.
the Pun and Joe version of Deep Cover couldda been any rappers with multi's and punchlines rippin' an instrumental... the Snoop and Dre version, can't be replicated.
You're confusing "man, that line was sick" with flow, rythm, cadence... whatever you wanna call it is a vocal talent, not a written talent.
And snoop has never had rhythm effortless or other wise.
He always has. His whole style is built on flow.
NinjaMic 11-06-2007, 10:51 AM Even though I hate agreeing with alpha, come on.. Don't try to make it sound like Snoop is worse than Pun.. Snoop was dope, but he wasn't even close to Pun.
As lyricists, Pun is one of the best to ever do it... but it's like this -
Biggie, Busta Rhymes, Snoop, Method Man, Ludacris, Cee-Lo, Big Boi, Pharaohe Monch, W.C., Ice Cube, Mos Def... cats like that, wether you love their lyrics, or hate their content - are the epitome of flow. Snoop defines the notion of flow, as a smoothe uninterrupted motion.
And album for album... Doggystyle > Capital Punishment
...and just to say it - Canibus' verse on Fantasic Four > Big Pun's
Killer Cosgrove 11-06-2007, 01:21 PM That was an emotional post.
I would retaliate even further bit i have to watch what looks like a verry interesting film about 'yer ma'....It's called "Moby Dick".
To stay on subject..yes Gza-Liquid Sowrds should be there but also one of the Eminem albums either SSLP or MMLP. which one? too hard to decide!
EDIT: and for fuck sake stop arguing about DOGG...the mutherfucker can ride a beat leave it there.
DAMN!
AlphaOmega123 11-06-2007, 02:16 PM Notice this word between "horrorcore" and the long list of rappers... see it? It says "or"... awesome huh?
Don't take it out of context you acted as though my tastes are limited.
Those people are nothing alike, ras kass is not fucking R.O.C. or Skrapz ok so clearly my tastes are diverse.
So your "you listen to nothing but this comment", makes no sense...
I'm sorry but it isn't about the scene it is about technique and snoop has none. He sucks flat out.
1, 2, 3 RHYME - isn't flow. You confuse tempo with flow.
No.
Sorry flow is rhythm and nothing else.
If you wanna talk swagger and style you are refering to something else.
Snoop has no flow and I'm pretty sure anyone with ears is well aware of that.
Uh, but it is when it comes to the subject of flow. If you start to cram more words into your bars, your flow will become rushed. ]
I'm sorry but no.
It isn't words it's the number of syllables and those who have truly mastered flow can speed up AND slow down.
I think you think of flow as just being how someone blends in to a track...
That's lovely except there are people who actually stand out in a track, pun was one of them and his flow is the reason why.
I'm sorry but if you think snoop has great flow .. just kill yourself.
Poetik Justiz 11-07-2007, 03:09 PM The Minstrel Show was originally given 5 mics but they took it back because they didnt want to rate LB higher than Jeezy's album...

Really? I'm not surprised. Even so, I love The Minstrel Show, but that CD is not worthy of 5 mics. 4 would be more appropriate.
