View Full Version : Nas - Last Words
B-Raff 11-04-2007, 11:34 PM I was listening to what most people consider Nas' worst album today, Nastradamus. I completely forgot about a song on there called "Last Words," which I think is the best on the album. The album itself may be shit for Nas, but I have to say this verse is still pretty fucking dope:
I'ma prison cell six by nine
Livin hell stone wall metal bars for the gods in jail
My nickname the can, the slammer, the big house
I'm the place many fear cause there's no way out
I take the sun away put misery instead
When you wit me most folks consider you dead
I saw too many inmates fallin apart
Call for the guards to let them out at night when it's dark
Convicts think they alone but if they listen close
They can hear me groan touch the wall feel my pulse
All the pictures you put up is stuck to my skin
I hear ya prayers (even when ya whisperin)
I make it hotter in the summer colder in the winter
If the court paroal ya then another con enters
No remorse for your tears I seen em too often
When you cry I make you feel alive inside a coffin
Watch you when you eat play with you mind when you sleep
Make you dream that you free then make you wake up to me
Face to face with a cage no matter your age
I can shatter you turn you into a savage in rage
Change ya life that's if you get a chance to get out
Cause only you and I know what sufferings about
Yo it's stunning when bed sheets become your woman
And I'm the one that gotcha weapons when the beef is comming
Maybe one day I'll open up my arms to release you
You'll always be my property nigga stay legal

mageisgreat 11-04-2007, 11:40 PM Shoot em up is one of the sickest songs. Idk why everyone hates this cd. HHID and Desciple suck dick compared to this
Jayant 11-04-2007, 11:42 PM nah i liked the album, it just had shit production, definatly his worst out of all his albums.. and that is a dope song and verse.. this album is still better than half of jays albums and this is nas' worst..
Jayant 11-04-2007, 11:45 PM Shoot em up is one of the sickest songs. Idk why everyone hates this cd. HHID and Desciple suck dick compared to this
yeah ive always felt that song, great beat as well
.ScottishHead 11-05-2007, 01:10 AM It's indeed his worst album just behind HHID, but it's not that bad of an album and has only been proclaimed as a "garbage" album through hear say.
AlphaOmega123 11-05-2007, 01:15 AM streets disciple > hhid
easily

Yup. Only reason honestly HHID was wack is cause the beats had terrible fucking melodys, some boring ass shit that made for no replay value. Lyrically it was good. But only reason I put Streets and Nastra ahead is for that the 3-4 amazing songs on each shits on the whole HHID cd.
**HOODSTAR** 11-05-2007, 03:11 AM another nas thread???
propro 11-05-2007, 06:04 AM Shoot em up is one of the sickest songs. Idk why everyone hates this cd. HHID and Desciple suck dick compared to this
Nastradamus ain't on HHID's level. HHID is a dope album, near clasic imo. Had about 11 nice tracks. And great replay value. Its his 5th best cd ( Illmatic, stillmatic, Lost tapes, It was written, hhid, god's son, I am, Streets disciples, Nastradamus in that order)
Nastradamus only has 4 or 5 nice tracks.
I agree though, Nastradamus despite being his worst cd is still at worst 3 mics. That shows to me that nas is very consistent - compare with eminem who had encore- 2 mics and jay Z- vol 3 1.5 mics.
.ScottishHead 11-05-2007, 10:53 AM HHID doesn't have good replay value, I've listened to it five times since it leaked, and I bought it. Not an album I look forward to put in and lisen to. I agree with mageisgreat, in that the production was weak, melodies, sub par "cute" drums, just overall not great production. He worked with the wrong producers, there are plenty of very talented indie producers that could have done a much better job. Lyrically the album was good but not great and guest spots were shit except Jay Z.
NinjaMic 11-05-2007, 10:59 AM ^^^It wouldda been chill if he'd just done the typical L.E.S., one or two Primo's... call it a wrap. Nas is usually considered at his worst when he works with some brand name producers... if he was gonna go with a big budget producer, I'd vote for RZA... 14 Verbal Intercourses please.
Street's Disciple is Nas most creative album to me... Prince Among Theives meets Cuban Linx. It's hard to just play musically, or listen to end to end and really feel the concept - so as a track by track digest it has little play value to a casual listener.
Anyway... Nastradamus... is still his worst solo. Had it's moments, but it's no wonder it came out like 7 months after I Am... rushed, make a buck music.
Captain Planet 11-05-2007, 11:01 AM Nastradamus is Nas worst album but it's still better than alot of peoples albums ...
i wouldn't call HHID wack ... i liked it ... the beats weren't the greatest but i felt they fit the mood of the album ...
80's hip-hop is probably the biggest influence & is incorporated into the album ... like Nas being nostalgic and fitting it into todays music without seeming too preachy and not doing the whole "i spit that real hip-hop" or "bringing that real hip-hop back" shit you get

I actually think HHID had some decent replay value...compared to the rest of his discog it's one of his weakest, but in the eyes of hip-hop, especially albums that came out that year, it wasn't that bad....
I still bump about 6-7 tracks on the regular......
Gory Days 11-05-2007, 02:18 PM You guys are all talking about how wack is HHID, and ive been here when it was released and we were all talking about how good it was, a proclamed instant classic and shit, and now u guys put it behind Nastradamus, fuck that... Its not a classic but it's not a bad album either...
.ScottishHead 11-05-2007, 02:40 PM I never called it a classic. I gave it 3.5/5 on first listen but doesn't have much replay value so I would give it 3/5 or 6/10.
Original leak thread http://www.rapworlds.com/forums/showthread.php?t=85997 (http://www.rapworlds.com/forums/showthread.php?t=85997&highlight=official)
mageisgreat 11-05-2007, 02:44 PM Lemme break it down. I can take fucking 3-4 songs from I am or Gods son, that id prefer over 16 non replaying songs.
Made you look alone shits on all HHID, HHID didnt have no classics and didnt do nothing for NY. Do i need to name "The cross" or "I can"?
Hate me now, Nas is like, NY state of mind part 2. But to you, HHID shits on I am. I hope your father catches aids. And no im not even qouting your fucking name.

I don't give a F*** what it did for new york, I'm not from new york.
HHID has better songs than I am overall. There is no track like Nas is like on HHID but overall its better. As for nastradamus even Nas admitted on his DVD that it was a mistake.
No need to throw personal insults over which albums someone likes... In my opinion HHID is 4 or 4.5/5. A near classic. I bump that heaps. Some people just don't like it cause it doesn't have that 90's feel but its a great album. I thought the guest spots were fine apart from the song with kanye. I loved the song with the game and Jay Z. The song with snoop wasn't great but nice to ride to. You mention the cross and I can from god's son but Black republicans, can't forget about you and HHID are better songs imo.
.ScottishHead 11-05-2007, 05:42 PM N.Y State Of Mind Pt 2
Hate Me Now
Small World
Favor For A Favor
We Will Survive
Ghetto Prisoners
Big Things
Nas Is Like
Money Is My Bitch
Those tracks are better than the songs on HHID.
Jayant 11-05-2007, 06:21 PM don't know how people are saying HHID had weak production, these songs had great beats
Blunt Ashes
Hustlers
Black Republicans
Let There Be Light
Still Dreaming
Hip Hop Is Dead

Half those tracks aren't even that special. Small world, favour for a favour, ghetto prisoners and money is my Bitch aren't better than most of the tracks on HHID.
Nas is like is on another level, one of the best songs ever imo. And also find we will survive the best pac/big tribute i've heard. But the rest of album production and lyrics wise is not better than hhid.
Cengiz 11-05-2007, 08:15 PM I'm a huge nas fan, and HHID was pretty average, i'd give it a 3.5/5.. the production was weak, the only tracks i play still are hustlers and blunt ashes.
The two kanye produced tracks don't fit nas style, the beats were to soft imo, and the can't forget about you track got old after tv and radio overplayed it. Also the title track had the same sample as thiefs theme, and i liked thiefs theme a fuck load better, so i kind of hated it when they used it again.. the rest of the album had boring production.
Nas has a great voice and delivery, and is incredible at story telling which will always make the album dope, but a dude like nas should be able to get the best out of his producers, he is nas.

I've posted this verse a shitload of time, definitely an ill ass verse especially when he delivers it.
Raker 11-06-2007, 01:09 AM HHID's production was some of Nas's best, this is one of the reasons I can't really respect people who bash his production if you don't like the beats on HHID the problem isn't Nas it's you. Regardless Last Words is an amazing song that seperates Nas from other MC's every album he gives you at least one song that is so creative that you can't picture anybody else doing it justice.

i'd take illmatic's, it was written's, stillmatic's, and god's son's beats over hhid's anyday
P90zN5'7nz 11-06-2007, 08:27 AM this album is still better than half of jays albums and this is nas' worst..
lol silly child
But the rest of album production and lyrics wise is not better than hhid.
I am was FAR better than hhid.
P90zN5'7nz 11-06-2007, 08:50 AM HHID's production was some of Nas's best
The production of it was written completely blows this out of the water...completely
this is one of the reasons I can't really respect people who bash his production
Okay so you cant respect people who dont share the same opinion as you? This is why you will never be respected, and because of that, who you respect matters as about as much as your opinion. So keep you juvenile, close minded, non-contributing, mindless thoughts to yourself.
if you don't like the beats on HHID the problem isn't Nas it's you.
umm if someone doesnt like the beats on the LP its not a problem lol. Its really not that deep. Its a personal prefrence. I understand you got love for nas but theres no need to put other people down. I was growing up in Queens when illmatic came out, and i listened to it was written from 1996 - 2000 on my way to class every single day until I went to highschool. If anyone understands the nas buzz its me. And im telling you this album really isnt shit. I would take Lost tapes, I am, It was written, illmatic, still matic, and shit even the 41st side tape over this.
NinjaMic 11-06-2007, 10:17 AM Half those tracks aren't even that special. Small world, favour for a favour, ghetto prisoners and money is my Bitch aren't better than most of the tracks on HHID.

Small World has an immaculate, cinematic beat... one of Nas finest examples of storytelling... it's like a noir crime flick.
NY State of Mind II is just plain dope...
We Will Survive... great, mellow, uplifting joint.
Money Is My Bitch is one of the best personification tracks out there... it's clever and extremely well done. Commercial appeal on the surface, deeper upon inspection.
Nas Is Like... one of the best tracks out there, exactly. Undying Love is easily one of the best storytelling tracks of all time and shits on those two tracks shit on HHID by themselves.
The only track on I Am that's really skippable for me, is Hate Me Now. "Special" or not, there aren't any tracks on HHID that are really outstanding, or memorable to me - they're "not that special"... or have something you can really point to as a great objective quality.
propro 11-06-2007, 03:11 PM I thought HHID is special, black republicans is special, Can't forget about you, let there be light, Money over BS, carry on tradition.
I thought I am was a good album but just the type of album thats been done beofre, kinda felt it was a poorer more commercial version of it was written. Still a good album no doubt but I prefer HHID.
I find Nas Is like and we will survive too good though
Bigsmokes 11-06-2007, 04:01 PM the song was ok
