buy about 80 bucks worth of foam, the kind that comes in a roll about 3 feet in width and lengths of about 20 feet long then you get egg cartoons(this may sound dumb but this shit works) if you have that then you staple the foam to the wall and the the egg cartons...and BLAM, you have your booth sound proofed to a satisfactory degree.

you get yourself a mic...spend about 100 bucks at guitar center..and buy a filter and a long mic cord as well as a longer cord for some head phones that dont let sound in that much.and while your out you can getto a hardware store and buy a FLAG MOUNTER. install it in the corner of the closet at an angle about 1 foot away from the walls. this just became were you hang your mic from.

blam blam blam...a home studio built by yours truely. for less that 300 bucks

zulou one more tip. If you cant soundproof a closet another thing you can do is use a small room ( like a bedroom, office etc) that is closed in and has furniture. Couches and beds also do similar effects as the soundproofing techniques. It sorta blocks off the walls and reduces chances of echoing. (works better in a house or apartment then a dorm as dorms walls are usually not thick)

If you have a few couches, or a sofa and a bed in a room it should greatly minimize echo.

my computer room is like that . . . no windows, no nothing, it has a couch and the computer desk, of course. So that would do?
