.ScottishHead 11-24-2007, 05:30 PM Don is honestly one of the nicest MCs/Producers of all time. His beats are raw and his mic skills are beyond dope.

Don't think it will be better than Dirty Acres though, but I'll see :)

Yeah he is, he's underrated IMO. That track he produced/appeared on on the Four Horsemen was dope.

Greeny if you find the time in the next few days can you upload some of those 12" tracks and put them together in 1 file?

Pen To Paper 11-25-2007, 12:48 AM Agree with ya on Renassiance Child but I don't think i've ever heard of this Godfather Don cat. He must be nice tho to have, if so, the best album of this year. I'll check him out.
MasSGyozA 11-25-2007, 01:04 AM im almost done with it and its been a good experience.
its weird to experience "new" shit from the 90's and it makes me wish rap was more like this now. . .

Exactly the way I feel. This and the last track of 8 Diagrams made me realise how weak hip hop albums have become in general, in recent years even though there has been ope albums. Compared to the 90s that is. I've also realised that hip hop will never have anymore legends in these times.

rap_is_real 11-25-2007, 02:17 PM LOL, whatever happened to the Finding Forever craze? I liked that album quite a bit too...
Pope Diddy 11-25-2007, 02:30 PM ^^^ good album it just boring and lost replay value after about 20 listens
another album of Common rehashing what he has said updated with newer pop culture references ... "sorta like the break up with Jen & Vince Vaughn"
.ScottishHead 11-25-2007, 03:22 PM Here's a good interview with Don http://www.diggerswithgratitude.com/features/pops/godfatherdon/page1.html
Hayzoos 11-25-2007, 05:16 PM WRONG!
It's an album by a certain emcee who goes by a certain name called Robust.
rap_is_real 11-25-2007, 05:19 PM Oh and btw that godfather don album is sick. Just got finished listening to it.

I have that album, and it's not as good as this album, besides you've not even listened to this.

How am I biased? You're saying Robust's album is the best of the year when you're from Chicago.
Hayzoos 11-25-2007, 06:31 PM How am I biased? You're saying Robust's album is the best of the year when you're from Chicago.
You're an idiot. You think 5 maybe 10 yers from now, people are gonna look back and say: "Ya man that Godfather Don album was without a doubt the best album that came out that year" ? No. El Foto Grande is an instant classic and once more people hear of Robust and his music, it will be a universal classic just like it deserves to be. This GD album is just an album that underground heads will say is dope and will probably rarely go back to it. Not to mention it's a fuckin compilation CD, not even a legit album. That's like saying a Greatest Hits album is a classic, it's ludicrous.

You like to be a condescending prick?
The fact of the matter is this album is one of favourites of the year because it's dope all they way through.
If you actually listened to it I know it would be oneof your favourites as well.
.ScottishHead 11-25-2007, 06:49 PM Lol at you putting albums that you said were horrible. Make up your mind.
You actually don't read do you? Or do you just like to argue to feel superior? I said "The albums I've heard this year", not "The albums I like this year".

Hypocracy in it's purest form.

Hypocracy shows it's face again.
The fact of the matter is this album is one of favourites of the year because it's dope all they way through.
Ok? So is El Foto Grande. You have this weird thing where you don't allow yourself to fully enjoy things either I, or someone else suggests to you. You only appreciate albums that you "found" on your own.
If you actually listened to it I know it would be oneof your favourites as well.
That may be true, but El Foto Grande is the best album of the year hands down.
.ScottishHead 11-25-2007, 07:04 PM Hypocracy in it's purest form.
How is it "Hypocrisy"? I don't say "WRONG!" in a thread, then say somebody is biased because they don't have the same opinion. At least I've heard both albums and can judge myself, you're just saying the Robust album is the best without even listenin to the Don album, then saying I'm wrong.
.ScottishHead 11-25-2007, 07:06 PM Hypocracy shows it's face again.
Hhmm..
Ok? So is El Foto Grande. You have this weird thing where you don't allow yourself to fully enjoy things either I, or someone else suggests to you. You only appreciate albums that you "found" on your own.
That's bullshit, I've enjoyed many albums that people have suggested to me, that's what happens most of the time.
That may be true, but El Foto Grande is the best album of the year hands down.
There you go again.
Hayzoos 11-25-2007, 07:08 PM Compilation albums are glorified mixtapes.
.ScottishHead 11-25-2007, 07:10 PM Compilation albums are glorified mixtapes.
It's only a mixtape if there's a DJ as a host. This is unreleased or rare tracks that wasn't on any of Godfather Don's albums from the 90s.
MasSGyozA 11-25-2007, 07:16 PM and its dope, whereas i find mixtapes to be very unsatisfying.

Congratulations. You might as well say for instance: Nas' Greatest Hits album is better than Illmatic was. You can't compare the two, one's an album, the other is a mixture of random songs thrown together.

Smh. I thought you were a self-described "HLP" (High Level Poster)? Why can't you debunk my arguement, ohh great one?
EDIT: And what's wrong with going back and forth? smh. some people on this site need to make up their fuckin mids. You people claim there is a lack of "discussion", yet whenever two people argue back and forth in a thread, someone comes in and calls them "ladies" and tells them to stop "bitching" (which apparently is any situation where two people argue). Maybe that's why there's so many phonies on here, and a chronic lack of intrigueing threads and actual discussions.

Plug Zero 11-25-2007, 10:58 PM How the public receives it should be taken into consideration especially at how objectively we're speaking on the matter of best hip hop album of the year. BEST (instead of FAVOURITE) makes it sound like it's something objective, and therefore undeniable truth to all hip hop listeners. Therefore, Jack has point. It's gotta be something peeps are gonna look back on. That Godfather Don shit is much too obscure, but really, so is the Robust album.
Graduation, with all things considered, is the best album of the year.
Brother_Ali-The_Undisputed_Truth = album of the year for me
Cengiz 11-26-2007, 02:17 AM I prefer DA and RC over this album.
Agent_Orange 11-26-2007, 07:10 AM Blu & Exile-Below the Heavenz,my pick.
Bigsmokes 11-26-2007, 11:24 AM ok....
I NEVER HEARD IT!!!
Bakke 11-26-2007, 05:00 PM Aaa, I'm halfway through it, and yes, this was dope as fuck! :D
Not album of the year though,.
Tom.B 11-26-2007, 06:44 PM Lotta good albums this year.....my personal fav might just be Joell Ortiz' joint......that was just a great album straight through......

Yeah, that was a nice album, My favorite album of the year was "Below The Heavens"
Cold Vein 11-27-2007, 12:58 AM Am I the only one who thought Below the Heavens was overrated? Yes, it's one of the better albums this year, but I would put at least 10 other albums over it.

It's a pretty good album. Not my favorite but I can see why some have it on their tops. What albums do you put over it?
Florida Breeze 11-27-2007, 01:29 AM Lotta good albums this year.....my personal fav might just be Joell Ortiz' joint......that was just a great album straight through......
Yep. This was a good year for hip hop.
Cold Vein 11-27-2007, 01:35 AM Off the top of my head so no order:
1. Renaissance Child
2. The Hunt for the Gingerbread Man
3. Perserverance
4. Chorus Rhyme
5. Undisputed Truth
6. I'll Sleep When I'm Dead
7. Razah's Ladder
8. Get Back
9. Median's Relief
10. Dirty Acres
were better.
I would include Jay Loves Japan but I guess it doesn't count as an album.
Cengiz 11-27-2007, 01:35 AM Am I the only one who thought Below the Heavens was overrated? Yes, it's one of the better albums this year, but I would put at least 10 other albums over it.

Getback isn't the best of the year, and lil waynes wack. Matter of fact one of the reasons the Little Brother album was bad is because wayne was on one of the songs.
wowww. If that's in order, I disagree whole heartedly. lol
He already said that was the list of albums he heard this year.
Draquo 11-27-2007, 07:15 PM ^ well him numbering them and putting the three albums/artists everybody knows he loves as top 3, would lead someone to believe it's in order.
