View Full Version : I Really Don't Get Along With Computers. (DNSErr.dll)
.majiK™ 12-03-2007, 09:01 PM My laptop's fucked this time. It won't connect to internet (does but barely and w/ limitations).
The connection is working (that's why I'm on here), but when I try to connect to any internet site on my laptop, I get a DNS error - can not find server.
Internet Explorer flashes "c:windows/system32/shdoclc.dll/dnserror.dll" on the bottom of the page. And the browser I usually use (AT&T Yahoo!) doesn't work either.
I can't use system restore because when I try to use the system restore feature, I am told that there have been no changes to my computer (even though I tried using the oldest date available).
I heard some WinSock shit and tried 2 programs but both failed. I tried to find whatever I could but nothing works.
Maybe y'all could help... again?
rep, cash, whatever you want will be given.
Alan Johnson 12-03-2007, 09:07 PM Try this:
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Network-Tweak/WinSockFix.shtml
If that doesn't work... try:
http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm
If those don't work...
At the command prompt(to get there go to "Start>Run>cmd"
ipconfig /flushdns (enter)
ipconfig /registerdns (enter)
.majiK™ 12-03-2007, 09:13 PM Tried the first two before and they don't work..
With the other thing it says "Could not flush the DNS Resolver Cache: Function failed during execution."
Alan Johnson 12-03-2007, 09:20 PM go back to CMD and enter this
REG ADD HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Dnscache /V Start /T REG_DWORD /F /D 2Then restart your laptop.
or
To resolve this problem, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.
2. In the list of services, click DNS Client.
3. Make sure that the Status column displays Started and that the Startup Type column displays Automatic.
4. If the service is not set to Started or if the startup type for the DNS Client service is not set to Automatic, follow these steps:
a. Right-click DNS Client, and then click Properties.
b. In the DNS Client Properties dialog box, click the General tab, and then click Automatic in the Startup type list.
c. Click Start, click Apply, and then click OK.
Did you try reseting your router?
John Holmes 12-03-2007, 09:24 PM try downloading a registry fixing program. You'd be surprised on what that shit can do.I have a program that might do the job,let me know if your interested.
Shift 12-03-2007, 09:58 PM Yeah I am going through the same hell with my laptop. My laptop is infected with spyware, so I try and reformat the entire drive with the recovery disc all to find out for some reason the recovery disc will not work. What kind of bulls#$& is that?!?!?
Anyways man hope you get a fix to your problem.
.majiK™ 12-03-2007, 10:41 PM Lol.. for real though, shit pisses me off.

Yeah, that would be cool.
And tehgame, none of that shit worked fam (Even though it did say it was successful). I might have to restart my router, hate doing that shit though.
D^Coy 12-03-2007, 11:16 PM stop tellin him shit he doesn't need to know.
DNSErr.dll = spyware
and your dns error is most likely the cause of your router being fucked with by the dnserr.dd file.

..Exactly. There are some settings or parameters that have been fucked with thanks to that shit. You can find programs out there that should be able to locate and remove the file(s) or you can do it manually, but that'll take you forever since you don't really get along with computers as it is..
..This is why it's usually a good idea to have a firewall or some kind of protection, fam. These things only cause undue headaches..

.majiK™ 12-06-2007, 05:18 PM Yo, I was going to format my drive before this thing came so if I do format it, will the problem go away or what?
Alan Johnson 12-06-2007, 08:08 PM if you format... yes
Shift 12-06-2007, 09:09 PM Remember if you reformat backup your data and make sure you got your windows key and CD.
.majiK™ 12-06-2007, 09:25 PM Yeah, I'm just going to go with that. I got my shit backed up on a external HD and have a XP OS CD with the key...
Alan Johnson 12-07-2007, 10:57 PM ^ That's good... just scan everything you backed up before putting it back lol...
