View Full Version : Order from most important to leat important
PERRY 01-24-2008, 05:22 PM In a song what matters the most to you? add or modify the list and order it from what mainly matters to what doesnt matter has much. and explain why
subject matter- if the artists is talkin about something that i dont care, i wont like the song at all. it could be the best song on the album and i wouldnt care if i didnt like the subject matter... well probably wouldnt like it as much
flow/delivery/voice- iv heard badass lyrics by artists but the song doesnt reach its true value b/c of flow or i couldnt like the artists voice. a perfect example for this would be canibus. for me, i dont like to listen to him b/c of his voice
lyrics- lyrics are very important but, for me, doesnt matter for me if you dont have the first two.
beat- not saying beats are important, just doesnt matter to me more than the ones above.
.ScottishHead 01-24-2008, 05:24 PM Flow/Delivery and the beat are equally the most important.

I feel the Beat sets the mood, like if Im pissed off and the song that Im hearing the dude is rapping about Raping his Girlfriend then Killing her sister and the Beat is dark then hell yea thats a dope track, Im not picky with Flows as long your not off beat that's all that matters.
ObnoxiousRapper 01-25-2008, 08:11 AM Voice...if i don't like the voice i don't care how good the lyrics or the beat are,i can't listen to Canibus for example or most southern rappers, because i can't stand their accent.

If they sound good then I like them - thats simple enough..
However it's also nice to be able to listen to the words of a song that actually says something it's not just nonsensical rap that means nothing but rhymes..
Esocra 01-25-2008, 08:51 AM Lyrics are the most important element in Rap music to me. The best MC's have this talent as their main attribute.
All other elements are secondary.
nate08 01-25-2008, 08:57 AM Flow/Delivery/Voice: Due to the fact that an artist could have the most amazing lyrics, it wouldn't make much difference if he executed it in a sloppy dribble or something with no energy.
Lyrics: Very close to the number one spot, only edged out by the reason I just specified. Beats can be incredibly hot but if the lyrics just don't cut it for me, it loses it's replay value and listening intensity.
Beat: This is closely tied with lyrics, it has to be a certain type of beat to fit what you enjoy, music is all about vibrations and they have to reflect what yours are. If I'm not feeling the beat, the lyrics, flow, delivery etc. won't matter in the slightest because I can't get past what is essentially 50% of the track.
Subject Matter: Last, and not even close to tying with the other three. Subject matter can play a bit role in a lot of songs and often affects deep feelings within us when we listen, or just make us think more so.
Saying that; some of the greatest songs ever written were written without a particular subject matter; I like my music to be music and I don't necessarily need political facts or a set subject matter. Music to me is free, it’s escapism and I know subject matter in itself can be nonsensical, but to me, it's the least important factor of music. If everything else on the list is solid, subject matter plays little to no role when I'm listening to a song.
Cengiz 01-25-2008, 09:43 AM who the fuck cares about subject matter, if the beat is good, the flow and delivery is good, there voice is dope, and the lyrics are over average then what's the problem.. you gunna turn a dope song off because they talking about meat when you a vegetarian....? bitches..

I don't think anyone said subject matter was the most important..

.ScottishHead 01-25-2008, 03:31 PM Anyone who has lyrics most important, must not a like alot of classics that have average lyrics.
Killuminati96 01-25-2008, 03:41 PM ^^Well true but by me saying lyrics are most important it doesen't mean I only wanna hear a guy who is extremely talented I just don't wanna hear someone who can't spit for shit thats all.
As far as importance
1. Lyrics, who said you needed beats and "swag" and/or flow to make music...or even good music..
Hiphop could be all acapella and if knew nothing about beats and this psychological front shit, then lyrics is what it should be about.
Beats, and the way it's presented is only there to make it more "entertaining" and enjoyable, it shouldn't take away the REAL creation of the artist.
I love beats and instrumental music but you gotta understand my point in regards to hiphop.
So to clarify, Lyrics is most important in terms of its message, NOT how complex or crazy or revolutionary it is,.
.ScottishHead 01-25-2008, 04:39 PM I wouldn't buy an album of acapellas, but I buy hip hop instrumental or turtablism albums..
LL Kool-Aid 01-25-2008, 06:34 PM I wouldn't buy an album of acapellas, but I buy hip hop instrumental or turtablism albums..
Acapella's can be good sometime, you can get creative and put it on another beat and it'll be a whole another song. Shit's sick if you put it on the right beat.
but that defeats the purpose of saying you only wanna hear lyric based music by puttin a beat under it...

I never said I wanted to hear Lyric based music, but still putting a beat under it always spices it up a notch.
