the courts that allow them to get away with this shit. Honestly... sampling two seconds of a song is equivalent to "pirating" the whole song? repeating a section from a song isn't even the point of a rap song (unless it's an instrumental); you don't sample something cause you want to make $ on the sample; sampling is an artform that should be given just as much recognition and respect as the original artists, especially when in many cases the artist would never have thought of the way that some producers use samples. In 99% of cases, the artists weren't even going for the same sound or point the sampler was.
I realize this thread has been done before, but as someone who's been experimenting with sampling for a couple of months now, it's just disappointing to see that most of the beats I've used will get me in a lawsuit if any of them ever become popular...
Shut the fuck up.
Thinkin you're smart cuz you listened to the skit at the end of Royalty on Moment of Truth.

Not even.
Not my fault you're a frail voiced fairy who posts video game walkthroughs on youtube.
Fall back cuz you're the one who performs verbal fellatio to Outkast and hops on for a ride wit any group you discover a la Camp Lo

That's because you have to BUY the samples and BUY your RIGHTS to the samples, stupid. Some even go as far as having agreements.

^I know that... but why should music be any different than any other art-form? In writing you can quote a passage and cite it without having to pay $. In movies, there are plenty of spoofs or even just movies building off something else and they aren't sued for $ either. Music is the only industry where the industry has been a true asswipe in this regard. When a producer samples something, they generally don't mean to have the sampled part (which is usually filtered & mixed anyways) be the centerpiece of the song.

There's a big difference between a spoof and an actual copy.

Sampling is Stealing, Unless as was mentioned before it's agreed upon or bought.
It's really simple like What if someone cut off your finger and made money off it wouldn't you want your cut?
