Crackavelli 06-22-2008, 03:29 PM one word

.ScottishHead 06-22-2008, 03:35 PM Nerdcore is like a sub genre of alternative hip hop..
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nerdcore
It's wack but there are some emcees/groups who have some "nerdy" subject matter for example Canibus, Centa of Da Web, Atoms Family and Wordburglar but aren't nerdcore, and who make good music..
RfC~RenFra~RfC 06-22-2008, 03:38 PM wow i dident know it actully had its own genre , doesent sound like my type of music at all
Captain Planet 06-22-2008, 03:38 PM i'm not talking about rappers who come under the geek rap genre but i could imagine "geeks" liking the following....
post debut album Canibus
Chino XL because he's apart of Mensa
Def Jux & Anticon people
some Del
rappers who are on Soundclick
i can imagine quite a few geeky cunts tuning into Papoose aswell
and yes, yous knew it was coming.......Eminem .... the reason being that he was the one that tuned them into rap in the first place
JohanRorscasch 06-22-2008, 04:19 PM Sound's like a funny genre. might check out some stuff. I admit, at first i thought it was one of wikipedia's fake genres, but it seems to be somewht well sourced.
pHoLL 06-22-2008, 05:03 PM Def Jux was a label I had a strong liking of a year or two back..
Wu Gambino 06-22-2008, 05:38 PM I've never heard of any of those nerdcore guys. Are they similar to MC Paul Barman?

Paul Barman is probably the most well known nerdcore rapper..

Def Jux & Anticon people
some artists, yeah i could co-sign belong in the 'geek-rap' genre from that label...but not Murs (even then, hes on Warner now). lol i honestly never heard of this genre.

I wouldn't really consider Paul Barman a "nerdcore" rapper, as his subject matter (for the most part) isn't really "nerdy." He usually falls into that category because he has a large vocabulary and his voice sounds "nerdy." I like him though... Despite his lack of flow, he's really good with multies and has quite a few hilarious lines, along with insightful social critiques.
But as for the subgenre... I love the subject matter, but as Scotty said, there's a distinction between "nerdcore rappers" and rappers who happen to be "nerdy." I'll agree that most of the "nerdcore" artists simply don't make quality music, though occasionally clever lyricism can make up for a lack of technical rapping skills. I like a few Frontalot and mc chris songs, but aside from that, I don't listen to much "nerdcore."
rap_is_real 06-22-2008, 09:23 PM An example of nerdcore would be something like Lost Children of Babylon. Even the group name gives them away, and the albums pretty much say it all

Of course, this is the extreme of nerdcore. On the other end, you have rappers that could be seen as that but at the same time might not be like Canibus.
.ScottishHead 06-22-2008, 09:40 PM Lost Children of Babylon's first album definetly covers some nerdy topics i.e. Science, Philosophy, Esotericism etc. But the 911 report isn't..
Centa of Da Web's "Beyond Human Comprehension" is probably the best example of a "nerdy" hip hop album that is dope, some of the lyrical content is stuff I was learning in microbiology lectures for fuck sake..
Estate Captain 06-22-2008, 09:42 PM Fuck that Captain Kirk and Scottie shit
FUCK THAT SHIT
.ScottishHead 06-22-2008, 09:44 PM Fuck that Captain Kirk and Scottie shit
FUCK THAT SHIT
Eh?..
Wu Gambino 06-22-2008, 10:07 PM Well that nerdcore shit is stupid but I don't think intelligent lyrics should be thrown in as nerd rap. It is just a different subject matter.
Estate Captain 06-22-2008, 10:09 PM Eh?..
Never mind man thats in relation to Star Trek rap
Plug Zero 06-22-2008, 10:25 PM MC Paul Barman is just really quick at stringing together long multi syllable rhymes. They don't make much sense but phonetically it's beautiful to the ear.
Killuminati96 06-22-2008, 10:38 PM LOL Nerdcore seriously I didn't know that was a genre of music it sounds hilarious for nerds to have their own music.
