I was waiting for one of these threads to pop up again though. I wanted to mention Lisa "Lefteye" Lopez from TLC.

She was doper than most of these "female mc's" that get their due.

ladybug mecca too but breezy is right there aren't many good female rappers

In addition to those already mentioned,
Lauryn Hill, MC Lyte (though those two are fairly obvious)

Lady of Rage, Rah Digga

and Bahamadia, who for some reason never gets mentioned even though she's easily one of the best female emcees (Kollage was a great album).

There's also Psalm One from Rhymesayers, though I haven't heard enough of her material to know whether she's talented or not.

Lady Bug Mecca and Lauryn Hill for me.

Lauryn Hill + Jean Grae + Lady Bug Mecca + MC Lyte + Missy Elliott + Lil Kim have been ones I've been a bit partial to in the past. I also got Bahamadia's record somewhere on mi harddrive (I'll post a screen-cap!).. I've given Queen Latifah's All Hail The Queen a few cheeky listens too.
