The Neptunes are reportedly poised to split with their label Arista leaving current projects in potential jeopardy.
Reports have it, that the duo left phone messages for members of their staff at the label informing them of their intention to quit the label.
It is understood that the surprising turn of events has been prompted by recent changes at Arista which saw long-serving executive LA Reid - famed for his work with artists including TLC, Usher, Whitney Houston and OutKast - suddenly quit his position as Chairman and CEO.
Sources, however, maintain that The Neptunes' announcement was entirely unexpected.
Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo currently operate their label imprint Star Trak through Arista and any rift between the production duo and the label could result in problems for Star Trak artists currently working on new material.
These include acclaimed Virgina hip-hop duo Clipse, newcomers Rosco P. Coldchain and Fam-Lay and dancehall veteran Super Cat.
