There have been rumours circulating that Jay-Z hasn't really retired and will continue to record songs under his real name, Shawn Carter. In an interview with MTV he confirmed these rumours. When asked if we would see him return under his own name, Jigga responded "Yes". He also hinted that this wouldn't be on Def Jam and that he would be starting his own label and signing his own artists. Jay didn't say when this would happen but said it could be next year or in three years time.

I thought Nas got to him with Last Real Nigga Alive. What he say? The first shall be last? Somthin like that?

Well I think the comeback is odd in my opinion, I mean he told the listeners his life story, what he did, and how he did it, what more can he say? He did it for 8 years with no stop, and the last year he basicly wrapped it up.

I'm curious to know what he's gonna say in his next album under S.Carter. I know he's still taking alot of criticism from nobodys, but they not gonna change their mind even when he does prove them wrong. He should just chill on this unless he wants to make history and make his first ever flop in his carrer.

I take that back for real. After listening to moment of clarity again, this one verse just made me put the puzzle together.

Music business hate me cause the industry ain't make me
Hustlers and boosters embrace me and the music I be makin
I dumbed down for my audience to double my dollars
They criticized me for it yet they all yell "HOLLA!"
If skills sold, truth be told, I'd probably be
lyrically, Talib Kweli
Truthfully I wanna rhyme like Common Sense
But I did five mill' - I ain't been rhymin like Common since
When your cents got that much in common
And you been hustlin since, your inception
Fuck perception go with what makes sense
Since I know what I'm up against
We as rappers must decide what's most impor-tant
And I can't help the poor if I'm one of them
So I got rich and gave back, to me that's the win/win
So next time you see the homey and his rims spin
Just know my mind is workin just like them...
... rims, that is

Esocra, according from your other post saying that Nas had to go elementry becuase Jay was nothing but, there it is.

Anyway, he has to come back because it would only be right if he released music for himself instead of the paycheck. He found out that his shit was hittin platnium status every year so he made the money work for him.

I guess that now that he has all the money he needs, he can go back to reasonable doubt status knowing no1 is gonna knock him for not sellin as much. Yeah I look forward to his next CD.

JZ is elementary, that's one verse in a pool of HUNDREDS. Also, don't get me wrong man, I never said that Jay-Z was not capable of better. In every Jay-Z hating post I have you will FOREVER see me pay respects to the Reasonable Doubt album. CLASSIC. So I am well aware that he is capable of better, but in my opinion and for the most part anything post RD is trash. Shit, in that verse he even admits it. It makes me laugh when I hear people compare him to a Rakim, Nas, Pac, etc just because he can move units. Like I've said in previous posts, if he sits down and concentrates about what he's WRITING he'd be a top contender. I honestly don't think he'll be very successful at it even though I know he'll sell a lot of records. He just isn't hungry enough to all of a sudden switch his art and start writing conscientious rhymes. It takes a lot more effort and a lot more skill - so an intelligent JZ will NOT be dropping two albums every year like his fans are used to.

Well everyone holds their own, but I'm just waiting to hear what Jay has to say on his next CD because when it comes to lyrical skills, Talib and Jay-Z are far coast to coast in similarity and that verse he put in that song made me wonder what he's really like since he said he "dumbed down" his lyrics for cash.

Or...

1.) He never expected Nas to come at him like the way he did
2.) He knew the critics were right as to calling his music "commercial/real" or whatever.
3.) Both

u all have to remember that Jay-Z wasnt always "elementary" listen to his 7 minute freestyle with Big L his wordplay and metas were so much better and anything from reasonable doubt...u'll see what i mean and as for S.Carter who knows maybe he'll drop the commercial "i got more rims than basketball court" style and switch to a more lyrically ill...who knows i'll be lookin out for the S.Carter album tho.

hell yeah it was a publicity stunt. i never liked any of jay-z's stuff except reasonable doubt, some of roc la familia, and i like this new album. especially now that ive heard him say he was dumbing down for everyone, now i understand WHY i didnt like him. lol. hes a good rapper, just very rarely makes good music.
