Sweat and blood filled the air as Take gripped his sword. The dense fog grew thicker and his enemies lay on the floor, lifeless. Take was panting, his heart rate continued to increase as he looked around. It was the first time that he had used his sword, he felt estranged. Disconnected, yet affected by the surrounding aura. The moonlight caressed his skin; the crimson on his blade illuminated the floor with a bloody light. He tried to remember what happened moments earlier but his mind was blank. The only thing that remained in his mind was the final words of his last opponent.
“You will never find her…She is gone forever.”
The seconds after seemed endless as his mind searched for the answers he was seeking, then images of the past few hours delved into his head. He saw the peaceful morning interrupted by a pounding at the door. Take was greeted by several men with swords and a letter demanding he surrender his wife. After the bitter arguments the fighting began, and Take was overtaken at first. All he remembered was waking up with the house ransacked and Saniah missing. His first instinct was to hunt. He grabbed his sword and calmly walked outside. He let the wind trail through his hair and the dead leaves brushed against his feet. He began to walk, looking at the ground searching for disturbances in the dirt. He was tracking them, and with each step his thoughts remained the same; Find Saniah.
A few minutes had passed and Take realized that he was only unconscious for a few minutes. He had caught up with his prey and to his surprise, they had began resting at a near by lake. Take lay in wait in near by foliage waiting for his chance to strike back. His anger began to build, but he had to remain calm. Striking before knowing what is ahead is a fool’s tactic. He became patient…watching. Counting the number of his enemy, and looking for where they were keeping Saniah.
After a few minutes the raiding party began to pack their belongings. Take was still waiting, only counting six men with light arms. He began to look harder, but he was unable to find Saniah, the only thing he had heard was random chatter about a woman. Take suspected that it was Saniah until he heard a certain comment.
“I don’t see why we have to do this, she always asks us to do the weirdest things.” One said. “This is true, but remember, she’s the Emperor’s daughter. We have no choice but to follow our orders.” The other replied.
Take thought to himself, “Saniah, the Emperor’s daughter? She never really seemed like royalty in the first place. Could they be talking about her, or about some other woman? Regardless, I have to keep going until I find Saniah.” He followed them uphill trying to be inconspicuous about his movements. He sat in the trees waiting for them to stop. The wind fell into a calm state, and the crickets stopped chirping. The birds remained still, and the jungle around Take grew eerily quiet. Take began to look around keeping a close eye on the envoy and other trees around him. He began to reach for his sword, until there was a slight movement in the bushes. Take jumped into the air. “Darts,” he thought “I have to be quick; they have found out that I’ve been following them.”
Take landed on the next tree branch not far away. His eyes were transfixed on the origin of the dart throw.
