I think "orifice" has a point there, tho'. Some people vote for lyrical content and what's being said, some people do a checklist of these things:

1. Multies
2. Punches
3. Flow
4. Content

and then make a decision. Personally I believe that (1) is only a way of making your shit flow better. If you say it, and it doesn't flow because of the multies, you've fucked up your rhyme. I think the most important thing is (4) and that has to be backed by (3). Punches only stand for disses, but if you really think about it. Why do you have to severely diss your opponent to beat him in a battle? The answer: because that's the preconditioned mindset of voters. If my entire verse is relevent to the state-of-affairs, why should I lose because I didn't call a person a faggot six times or say that he's gonna get killed or he looks like pussy? In all honestly, the overemphasis on punches and multies will spell the destruction of rap. You could incorporate better content into verses if you didn't worry about making your line lenghts so long (and people do it, just take a look in the battle forum); and stop trying to put seventeen multies in a line (people try that too). When you have a line that is typically longer than an entire bar that's not rap, that's writing a diary-entry.
