View Full Version : ..The Pros n Cons Of Choosin Tha Career Of A Rapper.. glorius 06-22-2004, 04:53 PM ..I know that there are alot of pros when becoming a rapper professionally but what are the cons of being one..holla back.. F02936GF12 06-22-2004, 07:30 PM CONS: 1.Because of its long history and evolution in the urban communities by young african americans, rap is often categorized in a negative way due to the connotation of young blacks, and more specifically, young black males. It is because of this that most rappers are believed to fullfill those negative stereotypes that people give them based on whats common by those who usually found to be rappers. 2.Also because rap is a form of art, everything that is said can and most likely WILL be used against you. But even more so because of the "young blacks" thing. Comments and what not that are made are used in the wrong way, lyrics misinterpreted, I mean when you have lawyers using a rappers lyrics against them you know you in some hot shit. 3.Let's go back to the young blacks thing. Rap is not the only field where many young blacks get their chance to shine. You also have sports. The difference here is that athletes dont recieve the type of flack rappers do because sports is more popular among a wider range of..."people" than rap is. Therefore, those "people" can see athletes and appreciate what they do for a living more than they can some rapper, and its because of this they seem to not have remourse for what we do. 4.This sorta ties into some of the other points a lil bit, but basically rap is the most freest freedom of speech there is in my opinion. Its because of that, that everyword is listened to closely and many are taken outta context. There are people all over who feel the same way rappers do, and who tend to say the same things rappers do. The only difference is, their not musicians or activists or in any type of position where they can easily speak out and get their word to millions of people as rappers can. See how we recieve the flack we do? Tha Realnezz 06-22-2004, 08:44 PM The biggest downside is the connection to the streets.Rap is more street than fucking graffiti. There are alot of low-lives in the game who ain't doing shit but being hangers-on and leaching off the artists. I'd say a rapper probably gets into more trouble than your average street person.Cuz look at the big name dudes...every year it's 2 0r 3 new cases and these are guys with c-note per hour lawyers.Imagine a rapper that hasn't sold shit and is still in the 'hood. That would be a living nightmare, niggas seeing you on BET then seeing you down the block in the bodega thinking you got money and shit. There's gonna be problems no matter what anyone says. The second biggest con would be jealousy itself.Between freinds, family and peers. You can't trust anyone now.And have to look ova your shoulder being a regurlar civilian, imagine when you're a rapper.Beleive it or not alot people leave the game just cuz of those two things. Number 3:Money. Rappers are ,mostly broke.90% of these guys are living off tours and show money.A gold rapper after taxes and re-couping the money spent on his album will probably go home with less than 100,000$$.That's not counting lawyers,managers,advances,hangers-on,outside debt,etc..So yeah it's not just talk most of these rappers is in debt. I am 06-22-2004, 08:55 PM My Nipples.... ~Damien~ 06-23-2004, 03:28 AM The only major con I can think of right now cuz I'm too high is the lack of job security. If the people feel that they're not feelin' ya music again, you become a One-Hit Wonder. Once that brand has been your title, you're out of the music business.. Cra-Z 06-25-2004, 09:30 AM Man, biggest bad is the instability, it's either the people like you or they don't but hey, if you just tour like Eyedea your still making a decent income and if it's what you decide you want to do, you know, go for that shit... glorius 07-07-2004, 04:56 PM ..more feedback..holla.. |
