The smartest thing He's said was that he wants to sign Talib Kweli, Common,
& Canibus ,I agree when Jay said that would bring hip hop back to hip hop especially since Shady/Aftermath a on the ante up, if he does do that, the Roc will be on the top (again)and I give the nod to Roc (if they sign) cuz after Em ,Busta, proof(somewhat) and L.Banks(somewhat) no one has lyrical talent like that. Do it Com-Sense .Talib, and Mos Def Canibus!!!Smart Move/Thought/Concept Jay....

I still don't forgive him for not putting everything he had into his final album, but this would kind of make up for it.

I don't see JayZ signing any of these MC's cause they're all 10x better than him. Ego.

I agree with you all,all of your Opinions make perfect sense (Mos Def would be nice too but he's on Rawkus but Jay could by out the contracts),I'm gonna play what and see I dont wanna give my hopes up and get hurt...sounds too good Kanye with Canibus would the sickest tag team since Puff and Big on ready to die,but I would'nt be surprised if it were better either, also dame and Jay r in alittle property dispute so don't be surprised if Jay starts his own label and signs them(his name alone would automatically make it a top record label).

Hey man, it's true. Cocka-Fella has the weakest team cause Jay-Z won't sign anyone better than him. Canibus over a Kanye beat? Fuck that man, Canibus needs to stick with Stoupe production - the "Rip The Jacker" album is fucking SICK. If Canibus signs with Jay-Z he'll have to start rhyming about non-sensical shit like fake drug dealings, fake beat downs, and fake glorified pimp tales. 'Bus isn't about shift into that shit like Gay-Z did.

Jay-Z needs to sign with Nelly, maybe Nelly will teach him how to rhyme. Or maybe Salt n Pepa can teach him a thing or two about rhyming.

I cant remember exactly whats gone down since then, but aint canibus got beef wit jay?.. i remember on 'I Got A Story 2 Tell' that he was droppin shots at jigga and beans? and also had beef wit rocafella.

Canibus is underrated for sure, i remember his track called 'grand deception' anyone aint heard it, go listen to it now, its tight.

I do think its possible that Talib and Mos Def would sign for jay, and maybe common. Now we jus need Immortal Technique and thats g'z up..... probably not gonna happen though

Oh yeah and also, whats up with everyone sayin 'Gay Z' and 'Cock-a-fella' all the time... im assuming its cos of nas right?.. For real, Nas coulda come up with somthing better than that 'cos its weak. Some people need to find better ways to diss people.

You need to look past the fact that 'The great Nasir said it, so i have too', think about it; thats like somone droppin disses like 'nellys smelly' etc... sorry but i've wanted to say this for a long time now lol.1

I don't know about that... I think I've picked up subliminal shots on the Reflection Eternal album towards Gay-Z so I don't see Talib signing with them. Plus, Talib isn't about what Cocka-Fella is about - he's just too deep.

^^LOL, you people aint ever gonna change

Well anyway, i doubt talib would have problems with jay, i read in a interview that he was really thankful to jay for 'biggin him up' on the black album, and jay admitted he likes talib and would like to sign him. I really doubt it would be to the ROC though, and i agree he is a bit too deep for them. Personally i jus couldn't see it, however i would be able to see him signin for jays own label; if he starts one.

And as for canibus; well i really doubt him signing for ROC 'cos he's got beef with sigel remember, which furthur shows that jay most likey wouldn't sign him. 1

I just think Canibus vocals sound amazing over Stoupe production, way better than Paz even. "Rip The Jacker" is Canibus' best album, even better than 2000 B.C. IMHO.

As far as Kweli, I really don't care who he signs with to be honest with you. He can sign with ROC or Deathrow for all I care - as long as the respective label does not affect the quality of his art. It would be a crime otherwise.

Yeah i agree with that Esocra, we'll see how canibus drops with this new album.

And regarding Kweli, well this guy is ill, but everyone knows when a person gets 'money, cash hoes' they kinda start to slip. You can see a decline in theyr new material and overall lyricism. We jus' gotta hope that he doesnt fall into this catagory. I personally think it will happen, if not already slightly. If he signed with Jay; then its possible that he could lose sight of his original ideals, but at the same time; due to jay he'd become more diverse and articulate with his lyrical abilities.

I disagree with this point. The only thing JZ could offer Kweli is a debasing of his lyrics. Currently, Kewli is light years ahead of JZ.

Well, its your opinion and i respect that. You can learn something from everyone. Its what the hip hop industry is based on. Most rappers or emcee's im aware of learn and admit to having people they pick up idea's from... The only one who i noticed doesnt is Technique. Talib could learn a lot from Jay since he is a veteren in the game... If you remember a few years ago, everyone was on 'Jay's dick' and fully supporting him... now everyone seems to hate him? This could easily happen to Kweli, probably not to the same extent since theyr completely different people, but with that withstanding, Talib could also learn how to perfect his flow and freestyling abilities; Since Jay seems to be fairly good at this.

The point i was getting at before was simply that Jay can at times be very articulate with his lyrics. Not very conceptual but capable with vocabulary. If Talib were to sign with Jay he could pick up a lot of advice, and Jay would try his best to nurture his talent since he already acknowledges him as a ill rapper.

With all do respect, saying Kweli can learn something from Jay-Z's art... is like saying Rakim Allah can learn something from Ol' Dirty Bastard. It's kind of insulting.

Well i think your comparing of your mentioned artists to Jay and Kweli is a pretty large exaggeration. I believe Talib could learn a few things, and Jay could definetley learn a lot from Kweli. When i said that i was refferring mostly to Reasonable doubt and parts of Black album, i do think he 'dumbed down' a lot for most of his albums, i really noticed the difference when i heard his Vol'1. and 2. In general it can't be denied that Jay is pretty capable when he wants to be, and in my own perception i believe that Jay would be a good person to pick up Talibs talent, rather than another label who has more chance of commercialising him. As i said Jay has experience and can help Talib to really blow up with the talent he has already and not needing to switch up his flow or anything.

lol, yeah i guess so... it was good to hear your opinions. I guess i still got a fair amount of respect for Jay, since i bought his first album all them years ago. He's done what we all want to do, go from nothing to having somthing really big without much initial corporate backing. I dont think he's the best rapper alive like he claims though, that acolade goes to Technique :), then canibus followed by kweli and maybe common, chino xl, dead presidents etc. i pretty much included the names of all the rappers this thread was first regarding lol.1

All are formidable MC's - but the Nasty one is the epitome of the God MC IMHO.

Yeah i agree, Nas is definitely one of the greatest rappers alive. In our album reviews so far he's the only one to recieve a 6/6 (illmatic) for emotion, conceptuality and lyricism in a record, but we havnt done that many so far; so... Im looking forward to his new album, although i wasnt really feeling 'Thieves Theme' that much :(

Oh and yeah, Mos def is pretty dope too :)

Mos Def is ILL... Kweli is even ILLer though.

Thief's Theme is a dope song, the production is tight, and the video - he brings the fronts back that shit is hot too!

yeah man kwelis album "quality" was so fucking unbelieveable, it just beat anything i was expecting. i love that cd.

ive noticed that alot more people who wouldnt have know mos def on "black on both sides" are noticing him now cos of his stints on the italian job and such.

its a shame they are only NOW recognising how dope he is, especially as "close edge" was nowhere near as good as anything on black on both sides...where's his soulfulness gone? that song was just bragging.
