View Full Version : Over Rated MC's
M.C. Call 08-22-2004, 07:31 PM Come on. We've had a thread about under rated, how bout over rated. we all know 50 Cent, so dont say that, and i know half of you will say kanye west, even though i think college dropout deserved 5 mic status, but a different matter entirely. so add your candidates to the list and we'll see the most interesting ones!
D-Illar-1 08-22-2004, 07:33 PM Nasir Jones
Apollyon 08-22-2004, 07:34 PM Hmmm.... Tupac and Biggie are largely overrated, I guess.
D-Illar-1 08-22-2004, 07:35 PM Pac-yes. Biggie-No. Hmm, Eminem...
Tw!stEd 08-22-2004, 07:36 PM Jay Z...by far. My mum can spit better then him.
M.C. Call 08-22-2004, 07:38 PM have to agree with eminem. but whoever came up with Nas? i'm not sure, but your opinion counts. how bout Nelly?
Apollyon 08-22-2004, 07:38 PM It largely depends on what group you have in mind when you refer to someone as overrated.
M.C. Call 08-22-2004, 07:39 PM good point, but lets say in terms of skill, sales, technique respect
D-Illar-1 08-22-2004, 07:40 PM I said Nas. People wanna say he's the greatest when he disses Jay-Z, but his career ain't been the same since. He needs to just carbon copy Illmatic one time, and he'll get my respect.
DaTiger 08-22-2004, 07:45 PM I personally think nas has had a solid career and have all his albums except nastradamus and i will admit he isnt the greatest but he is still pretty good. I got high hopes for his next album hopefully like other guy said its more like illmatic then latter releases. he may not be the greatest but hes had a solid career for being an average mc.
M.C. Call 08-22-2004, 07:45 PM i'm hoping streets disciple will take it back to the days of illmatic. however stillmatic was a classic and one mic has to go down as one of the greatest hip hop tracks ever
D-Illar-1 08-22-2004, 07:47 PM One Mic wasn't that great. It was pretty good. But he'll never make songs that measure up to "If I Ruled The World" or "World Is Yours" again. I guarantee it.
DaTiger 08-22-2004, 07:49 PM One Mic wasn't that great. It was pretty good. But he'll never make songs that measure up to "If I Ruled The World" or "World Is Yours" again. I guarantee it.
but you got to admit even though he hasnt made songs that have topped those his career has still been pretty solid.
M.C. Call 08-22-2004, 07:50 PM no matter how hard anybody tries they'll never make songs to match up to them. Illmatic was a classic no question, but watch this space
M.C. Call 08-22-2004, 07:52 PM well of course his career has been solid he's had 6 or 7 studio albums. including two 5 mic albums. jus a little consistent. i personally believe eh's one of the best
J-Dub87 08-22-2004, 08:20 PM tupac isnt overated at all, who else has made such a big impact in the rap game, really? he turned a record into thoughts, beliefs, politics all that shit.
Venomous 08-22-2004, 08:44 PM 2pac
B.I.G.
^Those two are extremely overrated.
kanye west
jay-z
And you cant really say peeps like nelly or whatever are overrated cause niggas dont even consider them as rappers, they just wack.period.
I dont think eminem is overrated. I mean what makes him overrated?
luda06 08-22-2004, 09:01 PM I personally think nas has had a solid career and have all his albums except nastradamus and i will admit he isnt the greatest but he is still pretty good. I got high hopes for his next album hopefully like other guy said its more like illmatic then latter releases. he may not be the greatest but hes had a solid career for being an average mc.
Agreeed.
I dont think Biggie and Pac are overrated as rappers, people just blow them up over the beef they had.
Venomous 08-22-2004, 09:13 PM ^if they're blown up, that means they're overrated.
LloydBankz 08-23-2004, 01:29 AM pac, one of them, but the biggest would have to be Jay.
UntouchableC 08-23-2004, 08:19 AM I'ma have to go with 50 Cent, and 2pac.
50 cant rap,if sales was based on skills and not marketing, 50 would have about 2 or 3 copies sold.
I think the fact that 2pac has had more albums released when dead, than alive is a massive indicator that he's overrated. Yes he made a massive impact, yeah he showed the public the stuggles of live. But if you release 10+ albums, all of em multiplatinum you bound to get a few hits.
ElecTriK ShocKs 08-23-2004, 08:50 AM Jay-Z , Tupac , Eminem , Joe Buddens , Lloyd Banks , Young Buck ... most mainstream artists are overrrated
D-Illar-1 08-23-2004, 10:25 AM Joe Buddens... most mainstream artists are overrrated
What in the blue fuck? Budden is underrated. Like Hell. Joe Budden was pretty nice. And he still got NO SALES.
ElecTriK ShocKs 08-23-2004, 10:33 AM A lotta cats are on Budden's Dick ... i really think he's nothing special at all
D-Illar-1 08-23-2004, 10:42 AM Go D/L the Joe Budden album and you'll see why. D/L a few freestyle. I got a freestyle from three years ago when he dissed Grafh and I still say "Oh!". He has that factor. Proof: Focus
That's all I'm gonna say is Focus...
LloydBankz 08-23-2004, 12:36 PM yeah ima agree wit D joe is way underrated, he getz shit on for no reason.
ARDENT 08-23-2004, 05:33 PM Nas is certainly not overrated, we all know what he can do.
Pac isn't overrated, the only people that overrate him are dickriders and i don't count their opinions.
D-Illar-1 08-23-2004, 05:39 PM Nas is certainly not overrated, we all know what he can do.
Illmatic. That's it. How did people start saying he was a GOAT after Ether dropped. Dude dropped Ether and sicne then has hardly been a focal point of the game or music.
ARDENT 08-23-2004, 05:41 PM nonono.... know somethin before makin a comment
Illmatic was amazing yeah... and he got other good albums too, "I Am" is a hot album just to name one
And i bet you ain't heard shit of his unreleased stuff... why? Cuz if you had you wouldn't be arguing with me

I heard Lost Tapes and collabs with AZ. And if you ask me, AZ holds the collab weight. And Nas is an Atheist.
YeshuaBenJoseph 08-23-2004, 09:07 PM most of the motherfuckers you talk about are over rated. nas has skills, is solid, yet no one that really knows about hip hop can argue that he ever matched illmatic. stillmatic? classic? hah.
tupac and biggie are obviously overrated "tupac isnt overated at all, who else has made such a big impact in the rap game, really? he turned a record into thoughts, beliefs, politics all that shit." what the fuck? have you never heard public enemy? tupac had an impact on commercial rap music, but nowhere near as much of an impact on hip hop as a culture as P.E who (ignoring 'Yo! bumrush the show') used "thoughts, beliefs, politics" as the themes for very record they made. they didn't glamourise killing, selling crack or pimping or whatever the fuck tupac talked about, using hip hop to put intelligent political thought on vinyl way before tupac tried to do it. and brendas got a baby has the shittest beat i have ever heard, and changes is not a proper song, its just 3 verses that he threw together, as is exemplified in the contradictions within the themes of the song.
ARDENT 08-23-2004, 09:13 PM ^ this guy knows a lot i'll give you that dawg
i like Brendas got a Baby & Changes as songs, just good to listen to i think but whatever... its all preferance

And you cant really say peeps like nelly or whatever are overrated cause niggas dont even consider them as rappers, they just wack.period.
I dont think eminem is overrated. I mean what makes him overrated?
are you crazy or what??? You say 2 pac and Biggie are overrated? and you say Eminem isn't overrated, hahaha, you is a Fool. Common man think about it. I don't say 2pac is the best or something like that, but if he is overrated, Eminem is SUPER overrated.
EAZZY 09-08-2004, 08:48 PM em is da best rappa ever
I dunno what's up with all ya 15 year old boys, but i guess you never heard of 2pac and other great rappers. How the f*ck can you say Eminem is the best rapper ever?? The fool disses Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Moby and a few other losers who ain't gonna say anything back against him. Eminem is WAY OVERRATED.
Ca$hville 09-08-2004, 08:50 PM ^^^^word fo' real
Eminem not overrated! ahaha!
2pac is overrated.

J-Dub87 09-09-2004, 07:38 AM I'm listening to rap from the day ice T came out. Most of these kids that like Eminem weren't even born
^ totally agree, in truth most of the people on this board have an excellent knowledge of eminem, joe budden and bloody g-unit, and as soon as you ask them about anything pre-97 they are totally clueless, this is what pisses me off about this board.
i see you like mc eiht, he is absolutely quality, isnt he droppin an album this year with the likes of mc ren featuring on it?
EAZZY 09-09-2004, 08:47 AM ^Yes that's what i'm tryin to say
Mc Eiht is going to drop another solo album on 28 september called "Veterans Day". Normally Mc ren was going to be on it just like RBX and a few others, but there was little time. So there not on it but it's gonna be a great album. I like Mc Eiht mostly because he raps about what's going on in the streets. He doesn't give a F*ck about expensive cars like bentleys, mercedes, bmw... and he doesn't rap about girls and shit like that. He ain't changed, he's the only rapper in the game keepin it real all these years. Great respect for him.
J-Dub87 09-09-2004, 09:17 AM yeh exactly, he hasnt chaged with the times, just straight compton through and through
Ca$hville 09-10-2004, 03:42 PM just because people like G-Unit, joe budden, and eminem dosent mean they dont know stuff from pre 97 man come on..... as u can tell im a fan of buck... thats just my style... but man I have got fuckin old tapes and a few cd's by Ice T, Public enemy, Run D.M.C, and de la soul.... I mean come on dont hate on G-Unit eminem and joe budden fans... cuz I am a g-unit fan and im in touch with hip-hops roots
oh and I am a eminem and joe budden hater.... I also hate on 50.... lol
omicron 09-11-2004, 01:19 AM fuck that
eminem isnt over rated are u joking me
RiChavELi 23 09-11-2004, 08:24 AM Notorious B.I.G. is the most overrated rapper of all-time. . . .okie so he had a couple of catchy songs but his lyrical integrity will never reach the influence that the GREASTEST RAPPER EVER 2PAC SHAKUR had....so stop comparing the two iite
WESTSIDE til i diE!!!!!!!! RiChavEli 23
Tw!stEd 09-11-2004, 08:56 AM Eminem is damn funny.....his songs are versotil, and his lyrics are pretty good...
I wouldn't say his the best, but he is one of the best...
to be honest, I have never heard a good jay z song and i dont particuly rate biggie...
Tupac is good....
d12 suck, Em is the only good thing about them...
Any rated def jam emcee is overated..the same with bad boy records....
LastEmperor 09-11-2004, 08:56 AM RiChavELi tupac's completely overrated...the guy contradicts himself all the time rappin about killing biggie in "hit em up" then goin on about how bad the world is in "changes" i mean wtf???. He wernt a "bad" MC just a bit overrated and a hypocrit if u ask me.
Prodigious 09-12-2004, 09:42 AM ^^^Your going to die a horrible death for dissin the man that gave new meaning to rap.
NinjaMic 09-12-2004, 03:39 PM Nas, Eminem, Biggie, Jay-Z and 2 Pac are all sick... there's not really many MC's who are overrated, just alot that shouldn't be selling who are and too many who should be selling with the above mentioned that aren't. Fuck Clear Channel...
NinjaMic 09-12-2004, 03:41 PM RiChavELi tupac's completely overrated...the guy contradicts himself all the time rappin about killing biggie in "hit em up" then goin on about how bad the world is in "changes" i mean wtf???. He wernt a "bad" MC just a bit overrated and a hypocrit if u ask me.

NinjaMic 09-12-2004, 03:50 PM Saying you're going to kill somebody isn't contradicted by commenting about the effects of opression on society. You don't have to be a saint to make observations, you don't have to be a preist to strive for a better world. What do you think was going on around him when he was at Death Row? Gangster ass shit. How do you think Maya Angelou would feel about her best friend if she got shot up, then got locked up and everybody was tellin' you that they orchestrated it, then they never come to see you in jail, then you get shunned by NY radio, the city that used to love you and then embraced by LA... what's the natural reaction and decisions going to be?
LastEmperor 09-13-2004, 10:56 AM ^^^Your going to die a horrible death for dissin the man that gave new meaning to rap.
i wasnt dissin 2pac just stating the facts
