View Full Version : God damn... do YOU know shit about rap?
ARDENT 08-23-2004, 05:25 PM Ight i've only been here a couple of days... but jeez i've seen some thick muhfuckas...
In the "why" thread in Ja forum... i got people tellin me that Ja doesen't suck... why? Cause he's got multi-platinum albums!!
LMFAO!!!
So does that mean someone like Ja is above the level of cats like Common, Talib, Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, Ras Kass?? Naw, its just not like that...
People like Ja & 50Cent are what i call SELLOUTS. Why? Cause they don't stick to their roots (mind you, Ja don't have "street" roots, he's 100% fuckin fake). A sellout is someone who changes their style and don't care about QUALITY as long as they sell 1,000,000+ records an make loads of money. Its fuckin bullshit.
People like Rak etc have ALWAYS produced top quality rap, sure they ain't really "multi millionaires" but they make fuckin good music and to someone who stays TRUE to the game an themselves, thats all that matters...
50Cent's album "the power of the dollar" was MUCH better than "get rich"... cause he actually had some good lyrical content in it etc... Now we got bullshit pop chart hits from him an he's a fuckin sellout...
I could go on, but i don't wanna... I just wanted to get a message across....
Who agree's?
J-Dub87 08-23-2004, 06:41 PM i totally agree, im in the same view as you, but you should let them listen to wot they fuck they want whether its underground or not. i just think u shud keep comments to yaself
ElecTriK ShocKs 08-23-2004, 06:45 PM I Agree .... 50 and Ja both are bitches ... matter of fact i don't listen to these teeny boppers at all.
I stick with real hip hop. i just guess Real Artists Listen To Real Mc's ;)
ARDENT 08-23-2004, 07:15 PM i totally agree, im in the same view as you, but you should let them listen to wot they fuck they want whether its underground or not. i just think u shud keep comments to yaself
thats fine by me
but excuse me for asking... isn't a forum a place where you're SUPPOSED to express you're opinions?! lmfao, dude if nobody voiced their opinions, ther'd be no posts
D-Illar-1 08-23-2004, 07:17 PM ^So what you're saying is since I listen to G-Unit, I'm not a real artist? Yeah....
YeshuaBenJoseph 08-23-2004, 08:39 PM "People like Rak etc have ALWAYS produced top quality rap, sure they ain't really "multi millionaires" but they make fuckin good music and to someone who stays TRUE to the game an themselves, thats all that matters..." errrr, when was the last time rakim made a good track? there was that one produced by premo, but that was way back. i love eric b and rakim, but as a solo artist he has never managed to bring what he had back to the surface. paid in full is undoubtedly one of the most important and defining albums ever released in hip hop, and one of my favourites, yet rakim on his own isn't all that.
people like 50 cent because they have been brainwashed by mtv and all that shit. because everyone else likes the artist, the individual thinks that they must be good. music is a material commodity, people use music as a fashion statement. fuck that shit, go buy ultramagnetic mc's - critical beatdown, and learn what hip hop is.
ARDENT 08-23-2004, 08:43 PM ^ Have you heard Rakim's new track "Run"? Its pure fire, just come out recently. His next album should be hot.
And yes he is fucking amazing, to be honest, you could argue him being the greatest MC ever, and a hell of a lot of people would back you up - including me.
I have Rak's album "the master", and its fantastic. Listen to songs like "Flow Forever", "Waiting for the world to End"... and you're telling me thats not impressive?
Maybe you need a hearing aid or somethin...
LastEmperor 08-23-2004, 09:02 PM i totally agree, im in the same view as you, but you should let them listen to wot they fuck they want whether its underground or not. i just think u shud keep comments to yaself
^^^word^^^
GraveDigga 08-23-2004, 09:02 PM ya, theres some gay cock suckers on this site that dont know shit about hip hop or rap, they dont even no the difference between rap and hip hop, lol, but ya...talibs new album comes out late september, cop that shit, even if u have it, hes redoin about 70 percent of it, he deserves ur money
GraveDigga 08-23-2004, 09:05 PM o ya, be aware of fags that might come in here and post bullshit rappers that they admire :cough:gmoney:cough: sry bout that, but ya, so this is a warnin
ARDENT 08-23-2004, 09:05 PM for sure i'm coppin that album
i've not downloadin it cuz i hate that shit
i remember when his last album came out i bought 2 copies just to support him lmao
i'll be buyin his new one
ClairVoyance 08-23-2004, 09:44 PM I totally agree with what you saying. I mean, all these dudes getting disillusioned by guys like Ja and 50.. Man I didnt even think there WERE any more Ja fans. Oh well. But seriously, ya'll need to stop listening to that bullshit and check out the real dudes. (Talib, Cannibus, Common, Immortal Technique, Chino XL... etc, you get the idea)
D-Illar-1 08-23-2004, 09:48 PM Expand your listening zones. Listening to the real shit is good, but sometimes you gotta clear your mind. You don't wanna end up like Huey P Newton. You gotta have a good balance of all styles of all the types of music to keep a keen ear.
bowdown2da_W 08-23-2004, 10:36 PM ive been listenin 2 rap for year n all i can say is let them listen 2 wut ever they want but i hate it when some of stupid little idiot kidz who dont know shit about rap open their mouths about rappers like 2Pac, Rakim, Biggie u get my point the old rappers shit even the ones before 50 came out. Tell me how many fuckin kidz here beetwen 13-16 do u think just started listenin 2 rap maybe less than a year ago when they hear In Da Club n Yeah! (those ppl who just listen to nuthin but the new trendy stuff n think its the best ever r the ppl bringing down rap n hip hop) n their already talkin about rappers they dont know shit about yall know the members im talkin about and then when u shut them up n prove them wrong all they say is "Suck my Dick i dont care" so yeah some ppl shouldnt even be talkin n just because rappers like Rakim, 2Pac n others dont get as much attention as they had doesnt me we should just forget that Rap, that wuz the real mothafuckin rap we need 2 teach some of these idiots real rap
D-Illar-1 08-23-2004, 10:37 PM Maybe you should take the advice of the people whose been listening seriously for a few years
bowdown2da_W 08-23-2004, 10:47 PM i meant ive been listenin 2 rap for years i just messed it up
Submerge 08-24-2004, 01:10 AM WOW, just wow.
You wanna know what's the difference between Ja/50 and you???
They are a shitload smarter than your broke ass. Instead of staying "real", they don't have to eat at McDonalds, instead they can eat t-bone steak, shrimp, etc... daily because they have money. And where will you be by staying "real"? Getting a $8/hr job for the rest of your life.
Give me a break.
If I rapped, I'd sell my ass out in a heart beat and rake in the millions within a year.
madprophet 08-24-2004, 01:25 AM every MF who thinks 50 is the greatest rapper alive and hes ill and blah blah blah blah...read this thread....OVER..and OVER
*thanks whoever posted this for postin it*
kweli and mos both drop (seperatly..not as blackstar :( ) this september....and i been waitin on rakim for months now
what sucks is that since the masses will like whatever they hear on the radio most radio stations wont play real good hip hop (krs, rakim, mos def, kweli, OLD jay-z, and most underground MFs like demigodz and immortal technique)
M.C. Call 08-24-2004, 05:30 AM Ja and 50 both suck. but if its quality of music your after, why don't any of u consider Kanye West? Every bit of music he makes is top quality. 5 Mic status every time if he had it his way. the fact he sold multi million copies just comes along with making a good record. Quality of rap isn't amazing but he consistently makes good music. Which is more than can be said orf Rakim. Rakim is a legend we all know that, but he isn't consistent. I've been waiting years for a new record, so what makes him better than anyone else? gone are the good old days of eric B. and Rakim. Ma$e is meant to be one of the greatest rappers of all time and he's just come back, no doubt for the money.
what i'm saying is selling out has nothing to do with the quality of the artist. so get down from your perch and listen to what the hell interests you whether it be will smith or Talib Kweli. different people have different opinions. leave it there
BAD HABIT 08-24-2004, 05:31 AM People like Ja & 50Cent are what i call SELLOUTS. Why? Cause they don't stick to their roots (mind you, Ja don't have "street" roots, he's 100% fuckin fake). agree
YeshuaBenJoseph 08-24-2004, 07:06 AM talib kweli is looking for mainstream success, the tracks i heard on the album 'quality' were straying away from his older, more accomplished sound. i know he didn't make it with hi-tek, and he still stayed true to his beliefs, but it wasn't anywhere near reflection eternal or black star. mos defs album will probably go all jiggy, y'all heard that shit he did with faith evans. that made me cry. you need to check mf dooms new vaudeville villain album. if you know what progressive, complex, intelligent lyricism is, you'll know he is the dopest. this guy is the patron saint of multi syllables.
ARDENT 08-24-2004, 09:35 AM Whoever said they'd sellout instantly if they rapped.... well thats possibly why you'll NEVER be a sucessful rapper
Rappers start off doing it MUCH before you see them in the charts... and they start off doin it cause its a hobby (if you will) of theirs, they don't think about the money they jus go out an have fun... Then we get thick bastards like you sayin you'd sellout any minute.... Well good for you, ya thick bastard
M.C. Call 08-24-2004, 01:19 PM Whoever said they'd sellout instantly if they rapped.... well thats possibly why you'll NEVER be a sucessful rapper

i couldn't agree more. i'm a rapper myself. and have been doing it for about 4 or 5 years now and i wouldn't even think of going professional. however as an artist it would be my dream of going platinum. but i've said all along i'd never change my style, or myself for anybody. my music is my love and my expression and it confuses me why an artist would want to change to go platinum and "sell out".
GraveDigga 08-24-2004, 02:29 PM talib SHOULD get mainstream success, and i heard rumors of him n mos signin w/ the roc, kanye can help the pple into signin them, it would be good, and u no talib isnt gonna start makin shitty music, but word, train of thought is kwelis best album...genious

1) I'm not a rapper. But you know more about rap than most people? You are fucking stupid. Your a fucking 15 year old kid who's balls haven't dropped. Like I want to hear your squeaky voice cracking up in a track, yeah right.
2)How many rappers make it big without going mainstream and getting the bucks they do. Like barely any. While your 'thugging' the streets going underground I'll be in college getting a degree and making 3-4 times as much money as you. Hey maybe you'll be some janitor in my company getting maybe $14/hr?
YeshuaBenJoseph 08-24-2004, 03:12 PM selling out isn't bad cos you make money, its bad cos you sacrifice skills for commercial success, and as we see everyday, labels see a formula like Nelly who worked once, and now talented rappers are drowning in an ocean of shitty ass Chingy fuckers who get signed cos they sound like someone else. so saying that you'd sell out in a minute doesn't make you an asshole for wanting to be rich, but for making shitty music cos you'll get paid loads, instead of making dope music which won't buy you a small island, makes you an asshole.

obviously you're writing by personal experience in sayin that at 15 people's balls haven't dropped yet? LMFAO
You're a dumbfuck, i didn't even read half you're post. If you wanna act tough, don't. I may be 15 (16 this sat mind) but chances are unless you do some sort of martial arts and are good at it, i'd kick the livin fuck outta you.
