I understand what you mean, but you should never look at this as a competition. This is just a means to an end. In the end the only thing that's important is that you've found your weaknesses and that you learn from them. I looked at the round with Jake as an example of the learning experience. Whomever you face, use everything you own within your spirit to write something that changes you're whole outlook on lyricism. I'm not too sure about the Pokemon analogy but if you think that the piece you read was a level 50, you sadly underestimate my talent..:(

Actually my aim is to make enough parts simple enough that anyone can go through it once and get the feeling, the meaning, and a good part of the punchlines. However, I still want those more complex parts that people only get after a few times through. Elsewise where's the replay value? I think it's more entertaining to see an effort that reaches out a bit further than ordinary. I don't always get that balance right, sometimes it too simple and it turns out pointless. Other times it's too complex, or draws from knowledge that's too uncommon, and only a few can follow. I want both in every verse and I use context clues and repetition to make sure the underlying themes are understood.
