one thing...how do i set the "image/layer to luminosity", im on a mac and theres no luminosity thing under layer or image

there should be a thing in the bottom right corner where it shows all ur layers and where you select each layer... and lal u do is select the layer that has ur image on it.. and then in the top left corner of that window there should be something that says normal... change it to luminosity...

hmm... I would have tried an image mask, which would've been harder.

why wouldn't you just use a layer mask-that way you can control just how visible your image will be and you can control exactly how much of it you want to be seen? jw

Because that requires brushing and the only thing our quality sig makers here at RW know how to do with brushes is half ass a background in them.

go to 'windows' up at the top of PS and click it,
a scroll down menu should appear scroll down and make sure 'Layers' has a check by it,
if it dosen't click it.
