Some of yall got it confused. Majority believe it's all about how nice PUNCHLINES are, it's not all about that. I'll state my opinion later.....but what are yallz opinion?

Honestly , i believe an album is perfect when the source says it is hahaha just kiddin, for real though when you can listen to it from track #1 to number whatever and not have to skip a song because they are all so damn good.

A classic is a one-of-a-kind... Great unique production and, most importantly, amazing lyrics. EG: Immortal Tech's Revoloutionary Vol 1 & 2. Thats a classic. Nas' Illmatic - Great Old School instrumentals and pure skill on the mic with :eek: lyrics. Jigga's RD was deep, from the heart and had classic (memorable) songs...

Good someone made a topic about this, so we can set this ish straight.

Ok, to me a classic album is something further than an album with great lyrics, fitting beats, great sound and hardly/without any weak points. Also the subjects of the songs are important. A classic album is a timeless album and for that to be true, the songs' subjects should still be relevant and consiberably valuable in 10 years, 20 years.

Meaningful lyrics, Good and original production.
Something that people can relate to.

A classic is an album where the artist puts they life and heart into it, when they still hungry to come up in the game.. RD and Illmatic for example. That album was tellin they life.

To me an album becomes a classic when it is recognized as a gift. Meaning that it is immoralized and continually gives you a reason to listen to it again; whether you missing a few bars, didn't catch the meaning, or if you just want to bask in its cunning and clever structure. Even if it is outdated, you still can catch knowledge from the content. Illmatic and RD are examples of this, along with Ready to Die, Follow the Leader, and a few others. An album becomes a classic when it is nostalogonized years or decades later as the artists peak or first of many.

This is very old...beginning '05 shyt....uppin' this because im still curious to what yall think...let me kno sumthin..

when its somethings that feeling exceeds time and i dont have to skip tracks.

These things I think make an album a classic:


be listnable all the way through
be different than anything else - i.e. be origional
have great lyrics
and beats - for a classic, they are just as important as the lyrics, as they make it more easy to re-listen

Replay value, something that withstands time.

De La, Nas etc.

Stuff you can still listen to today that was made a while back.

just straight beats & lyrics and even more important da value ov not havin to hit skip....somethin these albums out today know nothin about.

Its fairly easy to determine whether a album is classic.You can determine it by the drum pattern,how the snares connect into the drums.The Melody is less complex than the songs you hear today.Production of the vocals and how they are mixed.Alot of classic music usually points out to the vocals.In classic songs the vocals tend to be a little overshadowed by the instrumental.Depends on the producers and the artists in my opinion though.Peep the old School M.O.P or Mobb deep in their first album Juvinile Hell..in..92 i think?..you'll know what im saying

i agree ... which is why i can't call Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor a classic ...
