Which album is better overall?

I like both artists but Ether destroys Jay-Z's diss on Takeover. Between the singles, Got Yourself a Gun was a lot better than Izzo and One Mic was 1000x better than Girls, Girls, Girls. I think Stillmatic is better than the Blueprint overall.

I aint even bother to hear BLueprint in full so I can't comment.

But from my knowledge, Stillmatic shits on anything Jay Z has ever done, minus Reasonable Doubt.

So give it up for nasty

Ditto. I can't think of anything of Jigga's that can beat anything of Nas'....

Blueprint is a good album gotta give Jay that, but there was a lotta bullshit on it (as standard with a Jay-Z CD) n you could tell he was just headin for the mainstream.. Some of the beats on Stillmatic are weak but Nas' lyrics never fail

Ether
You're Da Man
Rewind
One Mic
Destroy & Rebuild
What Goes Around
My Country is a wack beat but his lyrics are on point
Even the intro is hot, either that or DMX-Its dark n hell is hot has the best intro.

Lookin at that, Stillmatic shat on Blueprint.. They dont give 5 mics for nothin

I chose The Blueprint...simply because Nas never said anything appealing to me on Stillmatic....he's good at story telling..a great conceptual artist, but his punchlines and otha mechanics are slightly above average....not all supreme like niggaz make it seem. He's a better storyteller than Jay on stillmatic, but down to the mechanics of it....Jay's, The Blueprint, is the better overall...

Blueprint wins, and I say this because Jay gave you a bit of everything on this album. From your pop songs, to hardcore hip hop, to conceptual songs. Girls Girls Girls was a great track, Hola Hovito, Heart of the City(really good), Takeover, Rulers Back, Mama Loves Me, it shits on Stillmatic. Plus ether was some middle school disses, Takeover was facts.

HoBGoBLiN
02-22-2005, 09:38 AM
^^^Ether was full of facts, I dont know where you're pulling your takeover 'facts' from... Only thing I can think of was that Nas only brought out so many albums in so many years. Who's a clever boy then Jigga?

Biting Biggie
Fat Lips
Didn't stab Un
Wanted to be on Nas albums
Said Pac Big n Nas were the best rappers
Kept Nas name in his music
Always dissin women (Oh wait Jiggas a str8 pimp I keep forgetting)
KRS already made a Blueprint
Eminems verse on Renegade made Jigga look amateur
Rocafeller died of AID's

Some pretty conclusive FACTS there I'd say, if you've got Stillmatic, put it on, and LISTEN

^^^Way to try (and fail) to make ample excuses for Jigga... What I stated was all fact, by sayin shit like "Jiggas Blueprint was better" you're merely conceeding that Ether did have facts, but you're just in denial cos you're a Jay-Z fan.. Hence, I dont need to say anymore

If you listened to God's Son, which by the way was a better album than the Blueprint 2, he talks about why he wasn't makin music at that time. It's b/c his mom was layin on her death bed and she endin up dyin later that year. Then after she died he released God's Son which is better than Jay's album, and then a year later Street's Disciple which is 100x better than the Black Album.

I perfer The Blueprint over Stillmatic. If I was all about lyrics (which I am not), Stillmatic as well as Nas' other albums would be uncomparable between him and Jigga. The Blueprint has a mesh of Jay-Z's lyrical flow with grade A production from Kanye West, Timberland, and Just Blaze.

The Blueprint is one of my favorite Jay-Z CD's.

03-06-2005, 10:05 PM
^^ Liked the way you layed that down maynem you gave your point of view and also justified Nas being the better lyricist.. anyway, Stillmatic is my favourite album, withe the following tracks..

Ether - straight up facts which hit Jigga hard on the chin
Got Yourself A Gun - Ill with a nice beat, something to kick on your subs
One Mic - need i say more?
Smokin - Some Hotttttttt Shit
Rewind - just goes to show how ill Nas can get.. a story backwards? daaayme
Destroy and Rebuild - Makes ya think the Stillmatic is more of diss album dont it
Every Ghetto - Were'nt feeling the beat on this but the lyrics were off the hook as are all of Nas's tracks

So to put it straight.. Stillmatic pisses over not just The Blueprint, but everything else Jay Z has put together.. no doubt

Stillmatic was way better then blue print here are the facts Second Child Hood and Nas never fell off. All threw out Jay Zs career Nas been always destorying him with better albums. My personal favorite Nas albums are It Was Writtin & Stillmatic did you heazr the black album boreing as hell. Nas drops great advice when Jay Z runs around like a little kid disrespecting women.

No, the Blueprint > Stillmatic. Shit was weak. Only decent songs were Ether and One Mic. Made You Look was his wack attempt at a single and Got Yourself A Gun was alright.

And whoever said the best intro belongs to Stillmatic, needs to hear the Dynasty LP. Or maybe Illmatic's intro.

Blueprint and Stillmatic are both relevant to hip hop. 2 classics from 2 classic artists. nas is a better artist tho. Its either more creativeness on lyrics (stillmatic), or creativeness on production (Blueprint) I prefer the first. I like my lyrics to go across my eyes like a movie and Jay doesn't do that as consistent as Nas.

Detroit 101 if production is your main concern I can only imagine who some of your favorite rappers are. PPL like Rakim and KRS-1, Mos Def prolly dont come on your list then huh? You probably love 36 Mafia, Cash Money, No limit and ppl of that nature.

Blueprint is better, Jay displays sick quotables, production, and convey's an array of multiply topics. The feel of the album was great, there wasn't anysong that didn't belong on there I felt. Nas was very contradicting on that album but nonetheless Nas has a couple good songs on Stillmatic, but Jay's album as a whole edges Nas for the win.

Stillmatic by FAR. Blueprint was decent, but was far too commercial. The songs on there were made for the sole purpose of selling singles, whereas Stillmatic had more deep, insightful songs that didn't need airplay or lot's of single sales to make it a success.

I think its funny how people run around wit nas's dick on they breath dude could say shit stinks and people would be callin him a genius but anyway neither was a classic. i'm a jay-z fan but blueprint was at best 4 mics and same for stillmatic (how can anyone trust the source's credibility anymore). Takeover was juss iight and Ether gets way more credit than it deserves its an ok dis but it didnt destroy jay it was mostly gay jokes and him dissin jay for using bigs rhymes and callin dame diddy nuthin new. When it comes to nas vs jay i think they both are two of the greatest lyricists of time so the only feasable contest between tha 2 has to be flow over the beats they choose and the winner in that case is jay. if u want a real knock out track -the Bitch in Yoo, cube got killed

Yeah right, there were only two songs on the BP that were commercial and they were the singles. And even in H to the Izzo he had some truth in there, so I disagree.

if there was then yall wouldn't be arguing.
like someone sed 50 shitted on ja

but its a bit off the point - personally i thought the blueprint was better, but it was marginal - both had at least 7 songs that i felt. i think blueprint was jay's 2nd best album
reasonable doubt was 1st
illmatic was nas's followed by god's son

both are the best two in the industry - these two battlin it, there was neva gonna be a clear winner

i call it a draw

I'm a fan of both NaS and Jigga as artists and as emcees. Music is an art form, and in the end it's completely subjective, all a matter of opinions.

I'd just like to point out that NaS was by no means speaking entirely in facts on Ether. John D. Rockefeller did not die of AIDS. Go look it up, it's not true. For that matter, none of the Rockefellers have, either. Also, Jay isn't stupid, he's not trying to bite Biggie, he's quoting him. What, you think he thought nobody would notice? That's like when Royce paraphrases Eminem's opening lines from 8 Mile at the beginning of Death Is Certain: it's contemporary relevance.

Blueprint and Stillmatic are two great albums from two great emcees. Honestly, if you think either one is wack, I think you need to pick that disc up, pop it in the player, don your best pair of headphones, and LISTEN.

Jay-Z has crazy technique, cadence, and flow. At times, it doesn't really matter what he's saying, it's HOW he says it. As for 'commercial' tracks, from my experience people who hate on emcees making tracks like Izzo or Dr. Knockboot (both NaS and Jigga have them) just because they hold appeal to wider groups of listeners are either really immature and single-minded people who can't enjoy music outside a limited range or don't dance/have-any-rhythm and can't understand why a song you can move your body and dance to would hold any appeal at all, (I mean, who ever heard of a Hip Hop song you could play at a party? <cough>)

Yeah, there's a difference between "Jigga That Nigga" and straight up RnB cross-over.

Stillmatic is my favourite Nas album, making it one of my favourite albums ever. Nas came so strong on that album he was unbeatable, Ether >>>> Takeover anyday. stillmatic not only had more highlights (Ether, Got yourself a gun, 2nd Childhood, You're da man, One Mic) but it was also alot more consistent that the Blueprint, Stillmatic wins easily

I'm not about to disagree with you or anybody on what THEIR PERSONAL favorite is. I love both those albums to death. I think everybody needs to recognize that there never is going to be a winner in this album/diss song/artist war, and that in the end it really is impossible to claim that ANY song is better than another, it's all opinion.

For instance, you can't say NaS had more highlights. There's no way to prove that. On Blueprint, personally, I would name as real classic highlights: The Ruler's Back, Takeover, Izzo, U Don't Know, Heart of The City (Ain't No Love)<-- which is so true, Blueprint (Momma Loves Me), and Renegade (I like the Royce Da 5'9" version a bit better, but having one of Royce and Em's best songs on this album in some form made it better). That already shortened list (I took off tracks like Jigga That Nigga because I know ya'll indie geeks are gonna think it's crap because it's a 'commercial track' and ignore his crazy rapid flow and technique) had more than the five you named for Stillmatic, but does that make my opinion better than yours, or Blueprint better than Stillmatic?

No.

It's alright to debate this topic and to voice your opinion about what you liked better. But it's pointless to go around in circles making claims like "StILLMaTiC >>>> BlUePRiNt, NO DOUBT", "tAKeOvER >>> eThER!!1", or "Gay-Z is garbage", like it's some universal fact without anything backing that up besides your opinions.

Learn to recognize the difference between fact and opinion.

okay cool, you love almost every song on the album, that's great, but you get my point, right? Somebody could think that every single song on Country Grammar is a highlight and a Hip-Hop Classic, and that wouldn't make their opinion any less right than somebody who hated the whole damn thing.

Blueprint is a better album overall.

Stillmatic has some classic songs. All over it. But it's also got unlistenable songs to me.

e.g.- Every Ghetto [can't listen to that too much], My Country [hate that song], Destroy and Rebuild is below average, Smokin's aight, and I don't even like Got Ur Self A Gun that much. I skip tracks when I listen to Stillmatic

Whereas, to me, Blueprint I can listen to all the way through.

That is what separates a good album from a great album, IMO.

Not to say Stillmatic isn't a great album. I think the power of all the other songs on there overtake the weaker ones and compensate efficiently.

Plus, Ether > Takeover, though if Takeover had been solely devoted to Nas, who knows.

Rest are dope. 5 mic album.

Blueprint is 4 mic at best imo. Half the tracks feel really average.
Jay Z isn't saying much whole album. Doesn't touch Reasonable doubt and I'd also rate Black album on par with blueprint. Girls girls, never change and renegade (em kills jay on this ) are mean but the whole album doesn't have a classic feel to me, good album, but nothing special.
