I don't understand why people say Jay-Z was a biter. Before the Black Album was released, I would have called him one, but on that record he says he was giving props.

From a hater's POV, I'd say he's making an excuse.

But I'm not hater.

Of course he would. Everyone started to see it once Nas pointed it out in Ether, so he had to start saying his was biting. However even if you are showing props you can't just say it like you wrote it. He'll rap about it and not even mention the artist name. He biten off many emcees. It's different if a song is dedicated to someone or you are doing a song that is associated to the artist.

Talib Kweli
Mos Def
Big Daddy Kane
Canibus
Nas
Biggie
2pac
Rakim
AZ
and tha list goes on......

I agree with you on why he doesn't acutally associate the lines that he has "bitten". He kept doing this in alot of his music, but if he knew he was being criticized for it, I would have expected him to stop. It's not like the guy has no lyrical ablity whatsoever, so that's my only reason why I believe what he said in the Black Album.

He does know he is being criticized that is why he said what he said. Im XXL there is a secction called Borrower and Lender it all started because of biting.

And I am not saying he is bad, he is a legend, but sometimes its hard to separate truth from originality. And it is not just Jay-Z, it is the norm nowadays, biting that is. And that is why hiphop is in such a sorry state. But look at the target audience. Women, teenagers, and club goers all are ppl who are either ignorant of hip hop's past or are simply apathetic. I consider myself blessed with a mind to know hip hop's past, its strengths and weaknesses, tests and trials. When are in the Dark Ages ladies and gents.

Guys listen out for the hot lines and fail to recieve the message behind the song. Jay-Z told his life story throughout his career and I always appreciated the fact he hasn't frogotten about the people he was listening to when he was coming up.

Dudes get mad because Jay-Z "bites" a rapper and gets the credit for making a hot song. If you know the song the original lines were from, you would know what Jay-Z's favorite songs were. That's how I look at it. Jay made his own style and I love it.
