View Full Version : Nas vs. Cormega (verse for verse)
The Spectrum 03-18-2005, 01:38 PM basically Ima post up a verse by Cormega and Escora (or whoever) will post a verse by Nas. The point is to compare the two lyricist and kind of determine who is superior.
TRY AND POST VERSES THAT ARE SIMILAR IN NATURE, or as close as possible.
If I post a diss verse, post a diss verse.
If I post something poetic, post something poetic, etc.
Their similar artists and from the same place so it shouldnt be that hard.
In terms of poetry, rhyme scheme, metaphors, rawness, versatility. Im saying Mega is better in all them ways. Fuck our opinions, let the verses speak for themselves.

American Beauty (song)
The Realness (album)
Yo, its night time I can't sleep
My pens beggin' me to write rhymes
Cory's a felony despite time
I erase the urge on the tip of my tongue
I taste the words a story is born, my glorious song
Hip hop cannot ignore me for long
I know her last man abused her, I can't refuse her
Alotta niggas used her, treated her like shit even confused her
She had class now she sellin it all for cash
When Marley had her, her face was more pure body fatter
Primo treated her good, made her the queen in my hood
She used to be out in Queens with DMC
And on the rooftp with Big, Fritz, and R.P.
She was fly she kept her shit tight
Yo if he didn't go to jail dun, she mighta been Slick Rick's wife
Disappeared a few years, she was "Stranded On Death Row"
Dre had her on anotha level in the west coast
She met a lame with with a drug dealer name
He had a lot for a while, then his whole style changed
You know the wisdom is reflected the knowledge when its manifested
If not fed in due time the mind is anerexic
You understand the message
I know I'm gettin to deep for some
Rhyme -- Uncut raw, the beat numb
Back to the subject in hand, I called her and said I miss her
Stop fuckin with my fake crew cuz they dissed her
Then along came the R, reminding her of her essence
Rza said she like a sister blessin her with lessons
She was stressed because she missed Pac
She still crying after B.I.G. died askin 'when will this shit stop?'
I love her like a mother, my physical path
She even overlooked the fact about my criminal past
And stayed with me in jail beyond gates visitors passed
No longer is she lettin niggas fuck her just for cash
Whats her name dun?

The closest Nas came to something like this was I gave you Power, a great song no doubt but the metaphor wasnt as vivid or expanded and it was more of personification in that song, which he only elaborates on in a few lines, the rest is storytelling.
Esocra 03-18-2005, 03:36 PM Dope track by Mega despite it being only one verse long with no hook. I remember when I first heard that track - I was fiending for a second verse.
The obvious Nas counterpart, like Spec stated, would be "I Gave You Power." The metaphor isn't as vivid because the track has an actual plot. Mega is telling a story as well, in chronological order, but it is not as structured.
Needless to say, I prefer "I Gave You Power" and there is no need to type out lyrics since we all know those lyrics by heart. Here's another to contemplate by Nas that I prefer over Mega's track (written words do this verse NO FUCKING JUSTICE but here it goes):
Nas - Last Words
I'm a prison cell, six by nine, living hell /
Stone walled, metal bars, for the God's in jail /
My nickname: the can, the slammer, the big house /
I'm the place many fear 'cause there's no way out /
I take the sun away, place misery instead /
When you're with me, most folks consider you dead /
I saw too many inmates falling apart /
Call for the guards to let them out at night when it's dark /
Convicts think they're alone /
But if they listen close, they can hear me groan /
Touch the wall feel my pulse /
All the pictures you put up, are stuck to my skin /
I hear your prayers, even when your whisperin' /
I make it hotter in the summer, colder in the winter /
If the board parole ya, then another con enters /
No remorse for your tears, I've seen them too often /
When you cry, I'll make you feel alive inside a coffin' /
Watching when you eat, play with your mind with you sleep /
Make you dream that you're free, then you wake up to me /
Face to face with a cage, no matter your age /
I can shatter you, turn you to a savage and rage /
Change your life, that's if you get a chance to get out /
Cause only you and I know what suffering is about /
Yo it's stunning, when bedsheets become your woman /
And I'm the one thats got your weapons when the beef is coming /
Maybe one day, I'll open up my arms to release you /
You'll always be my property, niggas stay legal /
The Spectrum 03-18-2005, 06:27 PM ^^word........that one ended real ill, one line can literally make or break a verse
and your right about text/written words doing no justice, i was browsing Mega lyrics and its just not the same, just the way the beat plays and how its flowed, no comparison, especially since we dealing with thug poets.......like imagine reading 2pac lyrics, wouldnt be impressed, but listen to them and its a different ball game, see Canibus is someone you can read and be like whoa, but not these cats here, anyhow, next verse

Cormega ft Dona
Song: Personified
Album: Legal Hustle
Cormega
I'm filled with optimism as I write a composition
that might ease the hunger pains that'll keep me out of prison
some claim they use to hustle in they verses
I'm cursed with a past addiction, of getting paid off crack addictions
glad I'm living, shit changed I'm looking at flicks of fam who's missing
some angels, some in prison
sending letters to they girl, who endeavor in the world
and like it or not, seeks pleasures of the world
I'm fighting with my conscience, like rival gangs in Compton
cuz I don't like a person, should I refrain or pop him?
I write the trifest verses, in the hood I'm like a prophet trying to fight the serpent
and live a thug life, I'm determined
to get right like Tony but I don't sniff white
I hit mics straight up, no cut, my flow just
improving, hip-hop is in a state of disillusion
and I'm a infiltrate the weak
like my rhyme invigorates the beat, like my nine intimidates the street
my mind is deeper than wounds inflicted when I blaze my heat
it was predicted I would come from the slums
and show these fake niggaz how it's done, uh..
[Hook: Dona (2X)]
For years niggaz glorified the ill criminal life, Personified
I'm just trying to do me, stay alive
get money, keep my family tight
Legal Hustle till I die..
Dona's verse is also mad sick, but I'm not gonna go there, though its whoa, like really, hahaha

Prodigy f. Nas: Self-Conscience
Nas:
Voices in my head, from choices that I've dreaded choosin' /
Cautions: I should of took heed, lost in my weed, steady losin' /
Thug stripes, badges of honor, forced to succeed /
Whores on their knees, fuckin' with millionaires, killers and thieves /
I fuck until there's no feelin' where, I bust and I be /
I lusted cars but I suffered and my scars run deep /
I stay to myself: one deep, pray to my God: cause he /
Knows me - it's hard to get on one knee, and ask Thy for forgiveness /
Fuck the cash, the ice /
Ferrari's With two-twenty on the dash when your life ain't right /
Niggas smile up in your face and stick a knife in your back /
Snakes shake your hand and got his dick up in your wife's back /
Why's it like that? It's life black, this is the game /
The way I see it, both bitches and niggas, is the same /
I trust myself, I can't fuck myself /
When ho's leave and no weed, I still know me, just myself /
Fear is weakness, learn from what experience teaches /
Beware of leaches, they vampires, my secret- /
Never follow, cause most niggas are straight up cowards /
Take care of my - body's the temple my mind is the power /
^^^ I probably fucked up a couple of things cause I don't remember it clearlyand I had to look some of it up to confirm.... but the verse is fucking sick.

A Slick Response
this is just half of it
Once upon a time not long ago
A lame MC didn't want me to blow
I think his name was Nasir (who?)
The "Street Dreamer" dude
Big wasn't fond of him (what?) Pac neither
Hung around my mans, Lord and Lake
Lake's doing time, Lord should get his life straight
And my man Grand Wiz living on face
Now he hangs with police
I guess they make him feel safe, anyways
He's always talking bout loot and diamonds
And I get to see a penny off QB Finest (ahhh)
That's lame, you should be ashamed
None of the Bravehearts driving (huh?)
Horse was the best, he left Nasir not shining (oh)
Said he got me a deal (uh huh), be real
Nas couldn't get on till I went to jail
Bit my style, then he eventually came up
So when I came home, he wasn't doing me no favours
Not to mention we was cool, but his pockets was hurt (why?)
He's a weedhead, don't blame skirts
Plus he never hustled, so cash is new to him
Got his chain his chain took, and bought it back, how smooth of him
Mad at his girl, cause her favourite rappers Jay
Chipped his tooth when Spud punched him in the face (hahaha)
Abanna ceased out, when he had beef with Puffy
Nastradamus flopped, this time he got lucky
Moved from Queens cause he was getting extorted
The Firm brick, critics said I should of been on it
He's the type to strike it rich and leave his friends in the projects
With Esco jeans on, and lint in there pockets

The Spectrum 03-18-2005, 08:49 PM thats why Mega shits on Nas. Because Nas spits whatever, just blabbers about nothing, throws lame punches. Cory will spit REAL shit, talk about REAL events, REAL people, and Nas can come up with whatever but he can't top that because he aint got nothing on Mega......I cant believe how people say Destroy and Rebuild is a hard diss, first off its not a diss in the first place, second he aint really say shit
yo, LISTEN to "Get out the Way" by Mega from The Realness album
thats the greatest diss that no one heard
not to mention that beat is ridiculous
Get Out the Way
Fuck Nas and Nature
A Slick Response
You Dont Want it (oooooooooooh that beat is gutter)
all diss tracks to Nas and he fucks him up so bad, and that aint even half of them
nasir is Mega's personal punching bag, and nasir knows this otherwise he would have replied back
HoBGoBLiN 03-19-2005, 08:13 AM This shits great... N Spectrum I agree that Destroy n Rebuild wasn't a great diss, only thing he said hard hittin about Mega was that he got snuffed he got shot in the thigh he did nothin.. N Mega sets that straight on A Slick Response anyway.. If there were more people who had a good knowledge of Cormega my Nas v Cormega poll a while back might not have been so fucked up n full of dickryders n imbicilies.. Keep em comin both ya
Esocra 03-19-2005, 03:04 PM Slick Response = amazing diss track. All of Mega's tracks devoted to Nas, such as "Love In Love Out" are amazing. Like Spec and FNOM always say; Mega has globs of leverage on Nas - banked on the fact that they grew up and know each other very well. Nas, obviously, the more fault ridden of the two in terms of how they conduct themselves.
So as far as diss verses TO EACH OTHER are concerned, no question about it, I hand you the vote for "A Slick Response." "Destroy & Rebuild" is nice in its ownright, but no where near as personal nor ill.
As far as diss tracks IN GENERAL are concerned, despite the leverage Mega has, it does not make him the better lyracist IMO. It makes for great diss tracks, no doubt about it, but NO ONE will doubt the greatness that is "Ether" either. Easily quantifiable as one of the top 5 diss tracks of all time, on top of which, the result was one of a devastating nature. (Of course, the man on the receiving end, Jay-Z, is riddled with faults as well and is an easy target making the feat easier).
Nas - "U Da Man"
They plan was to knock me out the top of the game /
But I overstand their truth is all lame /
I hold cannons that shoot balls of flames /
Right in they fat mouth then I carve my name /
Nas; too real, Nas; true king /
It's however you feel, go ahead, you swing /
Your arm's too short to box with God /
I don't kill solo-ists only kill squads /
Fame went to they head, so now it's "fuck Nas" /
Yesterday you begged for a deal, today you tough guys? /
I seen it coming, soon as I popped my first bottle,
I spotted my enemies trying do what I do /
Came in with my style, so I fathered you /
I kept changing on the world since "Barbeque" /
Now you wanna hang with niggas I hung with /
Fuck bitches I hit, it's funny I once said; /
If I, ever make a record /
I'll take a check and put something away /
for a rainy day, to make my exit /
But look at me now, ten years deep /
Since the project bench with crack in my sock's sleep /
I never asked to be top of rap's elite /
Just a ghetto child trying learn the traps of the streets /
But look at me now /
Peace
A-Lay 03-19-2005, 10:48 PM the cormega verse was better
Esocra 03-19-2005, 11:39 PM the cormega verse was better
The mode of attack in Mega's verse is personal, therefore, very effective. As a result, it is far more degrading. Lyrically, those two verses are about equal.
Also, don't forget, Mega gets a lot more practice dissing Nas since a good 70% of his subject matter is Nas.
Nas - "Destroy & Rebuild"
He had a mass appeal and a little boy smile /
Depressed, has a complex, his mouth was foul /
You need to stay a while, I feel like telling some stories /
First there's this arrogant fuck, his name's Cory /
Hung around my mans; Lakey and Big Trevor /
Trevor's still locked up, Lake's gettin his cheddar /
Cory changed his name to ummmm? whatever? /
Cornchip, Buckwheat look-a-like? It's " 'Mega " /
Right, "Mega" was his name, sorry about that /
But its so haaaaard to put a cowards name in my rap /
Always acting tough, a jokester, be frontin' /
He got snuffed, he got shot in the thigh, he did nothing /
But that's Nas always looking out for brethren /
Cause when brethren don't return love it don't stress him /
Cause gangstas do gangsta shit, real recognize real /
Still laughing to the bank and shit /
Back to Cor', got him a deal but his rhymes was wack /
Def Jam mad that he signed the contract /
Now he got jealous and mad at my shine /
Making silly tapes, I'm always on his mind /
Nonsense, not to be obnoxious kid /
Mega, for the record, you could suck my dick! /
Bitch, you from around the way it's sad what this do to me /
But Queensbridge, we gotta have unity /
The Spectrum 03-20-2005, 12:01 AM k, I'm looking back kinda and I think we came to some conclusion that
1) Mega is better with the Metaphors because he goes deeper and is more vivid. This aint taking nothing away from Nas because he is world class too, but Mega is minimum on his level if not exceeding him
2) Mega is a better battle emcee. He blows Nas out the water with this one. Yes, Nas gets credit for making Ether, he too is a very very good battle emcee but this is a personal battle and Mega comes out on top.

next and this one is very important..........CONTENT
Mega is more real with his lyrics. He spits struggle music, he represents his people better, he reps Queens better, he's more intertwined with his hood, and in terms of people being able to relate to his music, Mega is amongst the greatest ever, like Im talking on a 2pac level here in terms of connection. The Realness
Song: The Saga
(Man talking) Yo Mega man, whats the deal son?
(Mega) Yo son, whattup?
(Man) Yo, I'm just sittin' here, zonin' out, thinkin' about how life is
yo, life's general for us, you know? how we livin' out here, you know,
things we go through man, why we gotta go through this life?
(Mega) Life is an interlude to death son, you ever thought about that?
[Verse 1]
The saga begins
I'm a reflection of the drama within
the ghetto I live in, niggas Moms on crack, Pops just disappeared
the first time you get locked up who really cares?
I see a little snotty nosed with his sneakers on backwards
sleepin' on a mattress when I go to make a sale
at times I wonder, are we goin' straight to Hell?
or does God realize we're tryin' to make it as well
my sleep is interrupted by food on the stove
not gun shots, we're immune to those
some of my friends first bids are two to fours
others are on the run with huge rewards
Mothers watch Son's walk through the door
for the last time 'till they go view at the morgue
life is deep, we all just tryin' to eat
rap's a mental narcotic, I supply the streets
[Chorus]
Look at my life, you see white coke and black roses
and tears shed for passed soldiers
we all walkin' the path chosen
from the cradle 'till the casket's lowered
I still got the black ski mask to throw on
but I can get richer off the tracks I flow on
I'd be lyin' if I said I wasn't hustlin' no more
look at my life..
[Verse 2]
Life ain't fair, shorty pregnant with nowhere to live
sleepin' in a crackhouse 'cause she don't got no relatives
her friends wanna drink brew and beef about who's sale it is
now she's gettin' hungry, she smells the marijuana scent
I paint a picture vividly
as if Picasso's spirit entered me
starin' at the Heavens, secluded in a tinted jeep
I'm sick of hearin' eulogies
I realize my nigga Blue is - a reminder of my past like Greek ruins
yet his seek keeps bloomin'
uneffected by police intrusions
or street illusions we were consumed wit'
I've even grown away from people I grew wit'
I mean we cool, but I don't need to bullshit
my mood could switch easily from smooth to ruthless
we ain't built the same so mind games are useless
times change, like the climate I change
check the forecast, I reign
there's a third verse but no need to post it, point made
.Inphinite. 03-20-2005, 09:41 AM ^ Thas prolly my fav Mega song, along with Love In Love Out and American Beauty.

As predicted, I don't agree with your deduction. Why do you want to arrive at a conclusion so early Spec?
#1 - Nas has the nicer metaphors. I Gave You Power, Last Words, Money is my Bitch, Some of Us Have Angels. You have only 1 metaphorical Mega verse to quote, and it can hardly be classified as a track. It's more like an interlude.
#2 - Mega does come out on top on the personal battle, this doesn't necessarily make him better at writing battle lyrics. Ether is a more damaging diss track than any of the 7+ Mega tracks. The purpose of a diss track is to damage, bring to light, and exploit. Nas has come out of the lopsided Mega battle unscathed. Mega should have enough mass appeal to damage.
#3 - There are many other qualities in an MC, such as: imagery, flow, voice, delivery, lyrics.... Mega doesn't beat Nas on any of these qualities. We can keep quoting verses for days - just play their albums back to back and check who the more versatile MC is (#5).
#4 - Connected to his hood? Did you ever get a glimpse of the video footage of the Nas "concert" in Manhattan? Nas gets nothing but love in nYc - I would know - I live here. In terms of LOOKING OUT for his people, yea it's evident that you may have a point here.
#5 - Mega is almost monotone in comparison. Look at the originality and creativity of tracks like Rewind, One Mic, I Can, Book of Rhymes, U.B.R., Bridging The Gap, The Profecy, Queens Finest, and the list goes on.
#6 - Story telling. Mega does not spit stories like Nas can. I'm making a distinction between an actual story line with a plot as opposed to just spitting a ghetto tale. The later, they both spit in every track. I'm speaking on story telling. Very few MC's can do it like Nas. Check Undying Love, Blaze a 50, Last Real Nigga Alive, Remember The Time, Fetus, Rewind, etc.
I think both MC's are ill and both are worthy of King status. I listen to all of their material but just prefer Nas. It'd be great to see another track with these guys on it. Better yet, an entire collaborated album.
PEACE.
The Spectrum 03-20-2005, 03:02 PM well we can argue forever.........its hard to compare them but not belittle them at the same time. I mean its like comparing 2 all stars who play the same position.
I'd still say Cormega has Queens on lock more. Nas has more support worldwide, maybe in NY, and all places, but as far as HOME......that's Mega's territory, there is more aminosity towards Nas coming outta Queens, whereas Mega seems to get nothing but love
listen to Glory Days, The Legacy, Bring it Back even the Fallen Soliders, Fallen Soldiers Remix..........
in terms of versatility, well Mega keeps is hip hop for the most part, he doesnt really cross over but listen to Dangerous ft. Cortez......with the proper radio support that could be a #1 song, awesome dancehall track.
story telling ? ..........Dead Man Walking is like a top 5 grimiest story telling song
I come to realize however that Nas has a catalogue that's at least 3 times larger then Mega's.......so its harder for me to bring in things, for every 1 track I got of Mega's, someone can bring in 2-3 songs Nas did of the same nature.........not to mention Mega doesnt do a lot of guest appearances, whereas Nas is a whore in that regard. But its all good
Who's tale you tellin'? are you frail or felon?
were you makin' sales or watchin' niggas sellin'?
you exploit niggas lives in your rhymes and then avoid 'em
you never felt the moisture in the air of coke boilin'
you never felt the razor scrapin' your plate
your hands achin' yet you keep choppin' 'cause theres paper to make
you never felt the power of invincibility
clutchin' a gun like fuck it dun, it's him or me
at your best you was a hand to hand
no more than Three grams
what the fuck you know about a Ki, man?
you never hustled
lets get it right, my nigga Y would've stuck you
stop dry snitchin' in your rhymes, listen
what you tryin' to do? help the guys in Blue?
indight niggas so that can be another rhyme for you?
you a parasite, you never had a life
so you throw other niggas lives in your pad at night
it's clever when you write it
spoken well for a dude who never been indighted
you know the deal mothafucka, the real make the fake niggas kneel
and lose appetites when you taste niggas steel
my rhymes are what it takes to get a deal and make it real
I'm like Big, you can't replace the skill
I laced it ill like Cocaine in Scarface's grill
your mothafuckin' flow is basic, chill
I'm Cormega, raw forever
y'all niggas know my steez, I'm reppin' for Queens
you minor league
I'm big time like Mark McGwire's team
your whole team is pussy, when I squeeze vaginas bleed
my lyrics stay official
I bagged up coke on dishes made of crystal
your niggas, they won't miss you
my Nickel-plated pistol - got Sixteen shots, you can take 'em wit' you
to the coffin or DA's office
surgeory, nurses screamin' "We lost him!"
life suddenly divorced him, fuck it, it cost him
if you want beef say no more
brace your delf, nigga it's on, we spray Four-Fours, bitch!
The Spectrum 03-20-2005, 03:09 PM eh yo..............check the topical Im going to drop against Dillar today in the topical tournament, its gonna catch a lot of people by suprise of my approach, and yes there is significance to why Im posting it in here
Esocra 03-20-2005, 08:58 PM Nas gets mad love in Queens - I'm from Elmhurst, Queens specifically. Queens is HUGE. Just to give you a perspective of the size, it houses more residents than all of L.A. If it broke apart from NYC it would be the 5th largest city in North America. I bring these facts forward just to minimize this concept of Mega "having Queens on lock." Now, if you said QUEENSBRIDGE, then, maybe.
Yea, we'd go back and forth forever. I think it's safe to say no one will be switching sides anytime soon.
Peace

Got you man.
Fricasee 12-11-2005, 12:28 AM I know it is months later, but Mega is tight....but he can not ride a beat like Nas...his number one problem (HANDS-DOWN). I mean if it were spoken word with no beat he might have a chance... But you can't type up the way someone's rhythm is...Cormega really SUX at killing a beat. And I'm not a big Nas fan. But that is the truth. That's what turns people off. Plus- it is always common for the person at the top to receive hate. NAS IS QUEENSBRIDGE's top MC (WELL WAS ANYWAY). I'm just surprised no one said VERBAL INTERCOURSE....And Cormega couldn't make a track like "If I ruled the world" --- NAS MADE A FUCKING CLASSIC. Nas sort of kills him nonchalantly, because if he exerts all the energy in mega he put in Jay-Z he would just help MEGA GET BIG....Something JAy needed to think about before he battled Nas (When Jay was at the peak of his career). Later- Jay retires. He can say its because he's tired of the game, he can say whatever. But EVERYBODY KNOWS NAS MURDERRRRRRRED DAT NIGGA.

Donmega 12-19-2005, 09:07 AM Nas - Live At The BBQ (1991)
Street's disciple, my raps are trifle
I shoot slugs from my brain just like a rifle
Stampede the stage, I leave the microphone split
Play Mr. Tuffy while I'm on some Pretty Tone shit
Verbal assassin, my architect pleases
When I was twelve, I went to hell for snuffin Jesus
Nasty Nas is a rebel to America
Police murderer, I'm causin hysteria
My troops roll up with a strange force
I was trapped in a cage and let out by the Main Source
Swimmin in women like a lifeguard
Put on a bulletproof nigga I strike hard
Kidnap the President's wife without a plan
And hangin niggaz like the Ku Klux Klan
I melt mics till the sound waves over
Before steppin to me you'd rather step to Jehovah
Slammin MC's on cement
Cause verbally, I'm iller than a AIDS patient
I move swift and uplift
your mind shoot the gift when I riff in rhyme
Rappin sniper, speakin real words
My thoughts react, like Steven Spielberg's
Poetry attacks, paragraphs punch hard
My brain is insane, I'm out to lunch God
Science is dropped, my raps are toxic
My voicebox locks and excels like a rocket
