I agree, it's not fair to the other person. But, it can't necessarily be declared the writer's fault if they did it unintentionally. For instance, if their monitor keeps a line that may appear extended on your monitor, but on their monitor, it still stays on the same row, is can it really be considered cheating? Especially if the person doesn't do text often.

Yeah... But I admit, I intentionally write my bars out a little bit longer than my audios. Using the same philosophy though, I also intentionally put more multies in my text. And word play has a lot more flexibility in text as well. And if I did the thing where I size my text down like many of the others, I'm sure it would shorten quite a bit....

Either way, I am of the belief -- like I'm sure many of us are -- that people should not be aspiring to write differently dependant upon audio or text. There is one type of lyricism -- it happens when your shit flows and it has nothing to do with a weak ass battle or a bunch of multi-syllabic-hypenated-words.

When I first came on RW, over 2 years ago, I saw this same shit and couldn't get peepz to see that it made no sense to separate the different forms of writing between audio and text. By doing that, a lot of people that flow a helluva lot better than others get less recognition.

Y'all should think it over, it'd really make you appreciate rhyming more, and have you seeing the essence of hip-hop music. There are many ways to say the same thing; find a method that doesn't utilize near-hypocritical methods.

Truth, I see where you're coming from, and I respect your opinion.

But, you have to understand, I'm a product of my environment. I write battles to win. To win, you have to consider your audience, not what you believe is truly correct. If EVERYONE thought like you, I would write my text with shorter lines, and much more like my audio, because that's what they want. But that isn't the case. People look for complexity, and multies almost as much, if not more, as they do flow.

Audio is completely different though. I do audio for myself. I do occassional battles but not enough... I mainly just watch the arena. But in audio, who's votes are you trying to win? None. When someone looks at your audios do they catagorize things? Sure, they mention your delivery, your flow, rhyme scheme, etc. But, let's face it. It's not how THE WRITER approaches his verse completely. It's also how the audience approaches what the writer has written. And after that's taken into consideration, as a writer, we have to appeal to our audience. And you said it yourself - people don't share your philosophy yet... but when they do, I will adapt.

I can respect that, but how can you promote change if you're so willing to appease incorrect views?

Good question, and I can't honestly answer you. ONE person cannot revolutionize the way people vote. Not even TWO people can revolutionize it, if you and I teamed up. Because you and I both know that there are stubborn people on RW who will never open their mind up to that style. They've been conditioned to read text for certain fundamentals which cancel out certain other ones that you may find more significant.

This in mind, I strategically chosen to just go with the flow. IF the perspective of votes begins to change, then I will change the way I write. However, I troubles seeing that ever happening even if I promoted it as my name isn't exactly a textcee name. I'm not even an official vet, nor do I really care if I am or not. But I can't help but reiterate - I battle to win, I think in terms of winning, and if multies is what they want, then multies is what they get, if wordplay is what they want, then wordplay is what they get, and if I have to sacrifice structure, for 2 or 3 other categories, then strategically, it isn't a bad trade off. And with time, I will master the structure just as well as I do the other fundamentals.

I consider battles an exercise to extend my ability in the writing fundamentals that I take seriously. But in the process, I also aim to win. I don't think it's as shallow as it sounds to confess that one writes towards their audience in order to win a battle.

And Rose, you're right. Winning the topical tourney isn't going to do shyt for me in the long run. But it getting as far as I do, no matter what, is nothing short of good practice.

If your goal is to practice in battles, at least do it the right way...don't give in to what people like, cuz most of the time they dont know shit...appeal to those you KNOW are good...
