Well, thats stupid /\/\ What would you call UK stuff?? Southern stuff?? Australian stuff???
Personally, i would say that they are essentially the same thing, but rap is a more generic term used for people like 50, tupac etc.

Thats it...
And what Spec said....
Rap is just an element of HipHop, HipHop also includes B-Boying, Graffiti, Beatboxin,...
A better question: Who made this structure and give it a name?
Suggestion: Watch some Ol School Video's like Wildstyle....

Sorry you missed my reply Nico, I guess I was a little late checking this thread as I was at the 112 Concert here in Edmonton, Canada where they rocked the house tonight.

Even if HipHop is not the actual music, but the way of living, I still prefer calling it HipHop. Mostly because a lot of close-minded people at my school love to rhyme rap with crap like some ignorant 40-year-old father. I like the word HipHop because it seems only people who actually listen to the music call it that and everyone else just calls it rap. Well, that's around my way.
And to me, it seems like the word rap evolved to the word hiphop with the evolution of the music. Like, old school hiphop was a lot about the spitting right?, the lyrics. The action of rapping. When the beats started to become a big part of the music and the record sales (Dre, Neptunes, Kanye) with all these new rappers, it was all about the hipping and the hopping as a whole.
