Just to let ya'll know, I write articles for www.hiphop-magazine.com now...So from here on in I'ma post w/e articles I write here on RWs as well...Opinions are cool, hope you enjoy my shit...
"I know ya'll have seen it before. Classic love story; boy meets girl, the fairy tale begins. Shit is wonderful.
Then reality hits.
The parallel here couldn't be more obvious. Largely unknown West Coast emcee The Game hooks up with Dr. Dre, becomes a member of 50 Cent's G-Unit and promptly goes Platinum. The man goes from getting hilariously played on Change of Heart, to entering into a more profitable business partnership than he'd ever imagined. Talk about a complete 180.
But just like that stereotypical "love at first sight" cliche, this Hip-Hop marriage is appropriately unfolding in like manner. And since this is a love story; well, somebody got to be the bitch. I don't think it takes too much examination to determine who's playin THAT role in this relationship gone wrong.
For those of you who still live in a closet at your momma's crib; here's a quick recap. Game chose to remain neutral in 50's beef with Fat Joe and Jadakiss, refusing to diss either rapper when asked about the matter on New York radio station Hot 97 a few months ago. 50 Cent apparently caught wind of it, called into rival radio station Power 105 and announced that The Game was no longer a member of G-Unit; citing "disloyalty" to the group. Since then, it's been back and forth; apparent reconciliation, follwed by Game making yet more curious and somewhat contradictory statements about the state of affairs. All seemingly depending upon where and when he was asked about, or decided to comment on, the situation.
This brings us to the June 6th Hot 97 Summer Jam.
After things had died down publicly concerning Game and 50's beef, the Compton rapper used his time on stage at Summer Jam to put his former partner on blast. He talked over 50's verse in his hit single "Hate It Or Love It", reportedly uttering "Enough of that nigga, now listen to Game". Pile that in with a healthy dose of "G-G-G-G-G-G-u-not!!" and his sentiments toward 50 and his former crewmates were quite clear. Bridges have been burned permanently, and Game put the exclamation point on it by throwing his G-Unit chain into the crowd at the conclusion of his performance, yelling "Fuck this chain".
So what does this all mean? Well for starters, this divorce proceeding was instigated by 50. Bad move Curtis. Game gets the last laugh here, without question. He ended up riding G-Unit's coatails to stardom and notoriety, and now that he has that, his affiliation with 50 and G-Unit no longer serves a purpose. In fact, most would say (and I'm among them) that The Game has more credibility as an artist sans the G-Unit crew. And looking at the fortunes of these cats as of late, they're left looking like some bitter bridesmaids.
Finally, shame on Mr. Jackson for his bitch behavior with regard to Game's stance in the Fat Joe/Jadakiss beef. Game tried to take the high road, but 50 ultimately just couldn't let something this petty go. Now, he's going to have to regain credibility somehow; since Game took most of the Gorilla Unit's with him when he left.
Let's just hope M.O.P. and Mobb Deep don't let 50 overdo his maternal leadership over G-Unit. Word has it 50 is recruiting both duos; and it'd be a shame if they took the same career path Curtis Jackson did. Wealth and Popularity vs. Respect and Credibilty usually results in neither the latter or a balance of the two these days.
Bitch, please.
Don't water down and commercialize anybody else's music. Hip Hop ain't a Candy Shop, Curtis."
