Whats the most important/influencial hip hop album(s) released? Not necessary the best or your favourite

For me its a toss up between these 3:

Public Enemy - It Takes a Nation.........
Run DMC - Raising Hell
Main Source - Breaking Atoms

I aint doin a poll coz everyones gonna have their own opinion and there are to many to list.

Kurtis Blow stuff........first to really sell and first super star, showed rap could be sold

Run DMC - Raising Hell, first super star group, brought rap to the forefront

early LL Cool J stuff.......helped basically establish a independent label into a major power, longest in the game all time

them 3.........anything older then 89 doesnt even deserve to be mentioned

matter fact the pre '85 LL and Kurtis stuff prolly ought to get the nod

Illmatic brought forth a NY street poetry type sound, nothing more.

it didnt achieve anything sales wise
it didnt bring forth any sort of revolution
it didnt even attract a lot of attention

it was just a very very good CD from a place called Queensbridge were rap was emerging strong out of

wasnt even the first
Mobb Deep was doing their shit before him
Large Professor and his squad too

sorry......I know y'all putting ya opinions down
but if you use some common sense instead its the wrong answer
you would all lose in a debate badly if that was what you argued

I think it is a stupid question because each Generation of emcee's are influenced by different emcee's, or culteral aspects....

What album is responsible for changing the face of Rap from a meaningless playground party vibe to a thought provoking intelligent rhyme scheme?

I have an album in mind.. but I'm not sure if it was the first.. if it was the first.. then it takes my vote as most important and influential.

Rap would suck dick if it all sounded like the Sugar Hill Gang.

I'm gonna guess your meaning Run DMC - Raising Hell.

I think they were the first of the new skool/golden era of rap. I'm not gonna start dissing the old/mid skool before they came along as some of the stuff like Wildstyle, Kurtis Blow and Ramellzee & K-Rob are amazing.

I think that album changed hip hop.

Run DMC also were the first rap stars as well. But unlike todays commercial bullshit they didnt compromise their style.
