.Breezy 07-16-2005, 01:07 AM Two cars start off at the same point on a straight highway facing opposite directions. Each car drives for 3 miles, takes a left turn, and then drives for 4 miles. How far apart are the two cars? 5, 10, 14, or 20?
I said, 14 because... If they are driving in opposite directions and they both drive 3 miles that makes 6 miles between them... Then they both turn and drive 4 miles which makes 8 more miles between them. So 8+6=14... Did I do it right? :(
My friend said it was 10... but he said it had somethin' to do with Geometry and he can't explain it.
I'm not sayin' he's wrong, I just need to know the answer.
I know atleast 1 person on this site is smart.
Jrama 07-16-2005, 01:11 AM it is more then likely 14, but it could also be 8
its didint say they drove 3 miles apart they both drove 3 miles then they turned left.. NOW they are goin in the op direction.. 4 miles from each other they are now 8 miles apart. lol
My dick is 8 inches...........so 8 is the answer.
Just fitting a stereotype........
Controversy 07-16-2005, 01:13 AM 10 cuz the cars path makes two triangles with sides 3 and 4 so the third side is 5 and 5+5 is 10
Controversy 07-16-2005, 01:13 AM oooh im talented...rep
Jrama 07-16-2005, 01:31 AM 10 cuz the cars path makes two triangles with sides 3 and 4 so the third side is 5 and 5+5 is 10
They didnt drive in a triangle
more like this

Jrama 07-16-2005, 01:32 AM damnit didnit show up right

I did it fast so it's sloppy but you get the idea! Thanks Batman.. haha *Reps* hahah... But it could also be 14, depends on whether they want the direct distance or the road milage.. But I see what people are sayin' now.. haha
X-NINE 07-16-2005, 01:36 AM holy shit.......i thought u were usin photoshop or sum shit...but come on....windows paint is outdated and sucks
SYmBiOTe 07-16-2005, 01:37 AM i HATE maths
.Breezy 07-16-2005, 01:38 AM I drew that and scanned it lol
BusterHymen 07-16-2005, 01:39 AM i told her the same shit batman did but anyway wtf is up with people being super heros on rapworlds? they should all strive to be me instead.... or atleast get off of superman's nuts
Jrama 07-16-2005, 01:50 AM where does tha 5 come in
.Breezy 07-16-2005, 01:56 AM 4 squared + 3 squared: 16 + 9 = 25... square root of 25 = 5
X-NINE 07-16-2005, 01:58 AM Breeezy Knows Her Shit...
Imperium 07-16-2005, 12:01 PM Breeezy Knows Her Shit...
Breezy knows the Pythagorean theorem .......
^ was gon say that lol...
SomethingAwfl 07-16-2005, 01:19 PM It's not 8+6 = 14................
When they made the turn, the distance turns into a diagonal line.
I'm too lazy to calculate the answer, just use the Pythagorean Theorem.
I assume you know what that is considering I learned that when I was like 10.
.Breezy 07-16-2005, 01:21 PM I figured it out alc.... I was doing the road milage.... not the direct distance....
SomethingAwfl 07-16-2005, 01:27 PM ^^^^Your mom was doing the road milage.......
Oh yeah and I'll give you your $75 once the donation is back
.Breezy 07-16-2005, 01:45 PM Uhh... okay...
SomethingAwfl 07-16-2005, 01:58 PM Or will I ???
.Breezy 07-16-2005, 01:59 PM Who know's......
Kronologik 07-16-2005, 07:19 PM $75 :(
Is that all you charge these days Breezy?!
T1Oracle 07-16-2005, 11:56 PM The answer is 10. Although, with problems like these it does help to draw a diagram. If you did that then you would see that you had a to find the diagonal distance across an 8 by 6 rectangle.
3*2=6
4*2=8
6^2=36
8^2=64
36+64=100
the square root of 100 = 10

True Soulja 07-17-2005, 01:10 AM bre is super fly holla
Wreckin Eyez 07-17-2005, 01:42 AM But it could also be 14, depends on whether they want the direct distance or the road milage..[/B]I told you that yesterday. Did you not believe me?
T1, that would be actual distance between them. Once again, it matters if they are asking for road milage or actual distance. I would have to agree with this though, because considering your age they arn't going to be giving you grade school problems.
Even though I have no idea if his calculations are correct, because I suck really badly at math.
Exotik 07-17-2005, 01:52 AM 10 cuz the cars path makes two triangles with sides 3 and 4 so the third side is 5 and 5+5 is 10
But what if the streets are constructed to not junction with each other?
T1Oracle 07-17-2005, 04:00 AM The question asks "how far apart are they" that makes it a distance question, not a mileage one. You have to read carefully. If they wanted mileage that would have been specifically written. Or it would have asked about how far they "traveled" not how far "apart" they are.
.Breezy 07-17-2005, 02:21 PM Well, I'm sure if it was written down I wouldn't have done it the way I did... I can't visually do things like that.. :p but yeah people.. I've got it figured out now... [CloSeD] :)
