yea... you have to buy a special peice to your computer that will take the better quality mics because their plug in is bigger then the place you have to plug it. you can order the shit offline, but you might wanna check comp usa or circut city for the peice to the computer then buy the mic from a music store... thats what im in the process of doing... however, if you do have cool edit pro you can use the hiss and pop eliminator to remove most of the distortion and static in the background. also what will help on some static elimination is to take a really thin wiping cloth, and to put it over the recorder that you talk into and rubberband it down.

Or just get a Dynamic and a Soundcard

NO! Don't use a dynamic mic! Those are for live performances. For good vocals you need a condenser mic and a preamp with phantom power. You can get them at Guitar Center or Sam Ash or online at any decent supplier, Pro Sound (pssl.com), or ZZounds.com, etc.

^^ i can see you know what ya talking about but you wrong on tha first point imo man
getting a condenser (which won't necessarily need phantom power, and therefore a pre-amp) mic with a computer home set up is pointless - unless you got tha money to get a REALLY good pre-amp, 'cos almost anything else will make ya vocals sound worse.
people fail to consider that while one of tha best points of condensers is that they pick up so much more, one of tha worst points for home users is they pick up so much more. Tha lack of sound proofing etc will become noticeable, tha computers noise will effect the quality, you'd need a REALLY good soundcard - pre-amp or not - to get it to sound near ok, and tha pre-amp you'd need would have to be good. People assume that they'll get a pre-amp and blam, better quality. Not tha case - if you don't know what you doin, you'll fuck it up.
Dynamic mics are for live stuff man - you seem clued up - but it would be my honest reccomendation that you get one for home use, unless you start a full studio.
Cos nobody, ever, ever, will get studio quality without going to a studio
its a fact - theres no magic eq or reverb settings to make your vocals clean, crisp and professional sounding. If you got money and interest from AnR's/labels/scouts/industry people, then look serious and go to a studio. If you're not there yet or don't have tha money, take a bit of time familiarising yourself with cool edit (its eq's, reverbs and compression settings), get a decent dynamic mic (a shure sm58 is prolly tha one i'd recommend - its better than mine (shure pg48) and its tha one Oni has [www.soundclick.com/wakerecords for a listen to tha quality], and that has nice quality), read a bit on mixing techniques and be prepared to lown slowly as you go along.
Its near impossible any rapper is gonna get signed off home recordings. So unless you have money to waste or you're REALLY sure of ya technical knowledge, i wouldn't advise a condenser for home use. Thats why i don't have one - a condenser with a computer (without a really good pre-amp/mixer and some kind of sound proofing) is a recipe for disaster.
Good hunting man

I agree that if you buy crap, you'll get crap results. And yes you should have a good soundcard. But a dynamic mic gives bad results. Even with a popper stopper, the sound is bad.
You don't absolutely need soundproofing to have good results on a condenser. You just need a space free of general environmental noise. Even if you pick up a little, you can filter it out easily with a noise gate.
But hey, good luck with whatever you choose. I'm very happy with my condenser.
