View Full Version : How many rappers have made more than one great album?
golden_era 08-08-2005, 08:35 PM In response to a thread in GD bout having sensible Hip Hop debate. Ill try and start one.
How many rappers/rap groups have made more than one really good LP (I'm not counting groups who have then done solo projects)?
I can only think of:
Public Enemy
De La Soul
Tribe Called Quest
There also some underground artists from back in the day I could name but 90% of people here would not have heard of them, but my point is there aren't many.
I'm sure there are more but those are the only I can think off the top of my head.
Ender 08-08-2005, 08:55 PM Damn that all you can think of
Nas ............Illmatic, Stillmatic, Godson, Lost Tapes, SD, It Was Writing
Jayz............ RD, Vol 2, Blueprint
Dre .......Cronic, Cronic 2000
Tupac...........To many to name all, but deff My Aginst the World, and All Eyes on Me
Biggie..........Both he would have been more but that nigga got shot
Ice Cube......Death Certificate, Amerikkkas Most Wanted
Mobb Deep......Juvenal Hell, THe Infamous
Outcast...............To many to name
DMX...............ITs Dark, Fleash of My Fleash
Jada...............Both albums
Snopp Dogg............Doggy Style, Last Meal + Both East Sider albums
Dj Quick (the most underated rapper and producer)...............Safe + Sound, Rhythm-al-ism, Balance & Options
The Spectrum 08-08-2005, 08:59 PM yeah, this is a silly thread
it woulda been more legit if ya said who got 2 or more CLASSIC albums
but even that aint exactly an all exclusive club
whatever
Cormega - The Realness (classic), True Meaning (classic), Testament (woulda been classic if it got released 8 years ago like it was supposed to), Urban Legend (gonna be classic)
Donmega 08-08-2005, 09:19 PM is urban legend a good album?
golden_era 08-08-2005, 09:21 PM Ice Cube, Mobb Deep & Dre & Outkast maybe DJ Quik are I agree are possible but I only think are only very good not great. But I aint gonna argue with you on those.
Also DJ Quik is not that well known and I could list loads of underground artists who I think have great albums but because not that many people know of them I felt it would be pointless. I only listed artists that are relatively well known/commercially successful.
This is probably a really stupid reason. But how many people here have heard of King Sun, Double X Posse or Show & AG.
This is a really stupid reason but I just want to concentrate on Albums that have had some sort of commercial impact
Also:
IMO Nas, Snoop & Biggie (life after death is shite) has only ever released 1 great album.
As for Jay Z and Tupac I dont think theyve released one great album.
As for DMX & Jada (is this Jada kiss) I've never listened to any of their songs.
I would add BDP & Run DMC too.
To everyone else when I say underground artists I'm talking about indie artists who sold virtually no records.
Not artists today who are considered underground today like Jedi Mind Tricks. Who are considered underground but are still on major distribution labels.
Donmega 08-08-2005, 09:27 PM Damn that all you can think of
Nas ............Illmatic, Stillmatic, Godson, Lost Tapes, SD, It Was Writing

Dj Quick (the most underated rapper and producer)...............Safe + Sound, Rhythm-al-ism, Balance & Options
i disagree with alot of them
golden_era 08-08-2005, 09:30 PM WTF????
Whys it a fucking silly thread its better than the usual 'Whos ur favourite rapper' or 'Eminem has retired/fucked his mum/died'.
When I say great I mean great not classic. I albums thats are in your opinion have amazing lyrics, delivery, beats, productions etc.
Hip Hop is to young to have many classic albums.
Ender 08-08-2005, 09:32 PM Well Dj Quick is well know here because well i Watts is basiclly Compton.
You Say
This is a really stupid reason but I just want to concentrate on Albums that have had some sort of commercial impact
Also:
IMO Nas, Snoop & Biggie (life after death is shite) has only ever released 1 great album.
IF you think that Nas Bigge and Snopp Hasnt had an commercail impact then you on the wrong Web site. You need to go to an Rand B web site or some shit.
Cause i dont think no rapper has had the impact that Snopp has not even Jay Z

The Spectrum 08-08-2005, 09:52 PM is urban legend a good album?
it aint out yet.......but word from Mega himself is thats its gonna be
way better then anything before.......I dont really know how you can

Mega and Premo are finally hooking up
one of their tracks already leaked, i think its up at hip hop game.com
~~~~~~
both of Biggie's albums were DOPE as fuck
I dont know how anyone can disagree
ya dont gotta like him but give him his credit for putting out quality music
Nas put out Illmatic and It Was Written which again I dont really know
how anyone can say those were not great albums
ya gotta be able to seperate preference and truth
Nas may be a homo but he got a bunch of great albums out
Ender 08-08-2005, 09:52 PM LOL Fuck R&B
I never said Snoop Dogg, Nas & Biggie never had a commercial impact I just dont think they released more than 1 great album.
I guess i dont know what to say Stillmatic, Illmatic Were two classics
Illmatic Probable one of the greatest rep albums of all time.
Doggy style and Last meal Great albums. And im not even go start on biggie.
But to each his own. Thats IMO.
It was written is more of a classic than stillmatic.
Ender 08-08-2005, 09:56 PM I was feeling you untill this
Nas may be a homo but he got a bunch of great albums out
But most Mega Fans are disgruntled Ex Nas fans. So I see Why you think that illmatic and It was writting were great albums cause mega was on them shits
NAS > Mega
Halftime 08-08-2005, 09:58 PM I was feeling you untill this
But most Mega Fans are disgruntled Ex Nas fans. So I see Why you think that illmatic and It was writting were great albums cause mega was on them shits
NAS > Mega
Of course nas>mega
But mega didnt rap on illmatic, he was only on one track of it was written, But yeah. Im stickin to it was written etter than still.
Ender 08-08-2005, 09:58 PM It was written is more of a classic than stillmatic.
What the Fuck. Lost Tapes was better than it was writting. WoW
golden_era 08-08-2005, 10:00 PM ^^^
@WattsGod
Illmatic is one of the best ever. But he never made an album to match it. The problem with me is that I've listened to so much rap over about a 15 year period and hold it to such a high standard I'm rarely completely satisfied with an album.
But as this is purely my opinion and I aint gonna say anyones wrong just that I disagree.
@Halftime I disagree with all your choices.
Halftime 08-08-2005, 10:00 PM What the Fuck. Lost Tapes was better than it was writting. WoW
You're kidding me right?
It was written has to be one of the best nas albums avail (next to ill)
Listen to:
Take it in blood
Affirmitive Action
golden_era 08-08-2005, 10:04 PM ^^^
Fuck a rep. Naw I just feel like a dick coz I didnt put them in my original post.
Halftime 08-08-2005, 10:04 PM ^^^
@Halftime I disagree with all your choices.
Im not suprised
not many people fuck with onyx (that i know of)
The fact you are barley satisfied with an album now adays
you may not like eminem or royce
But you disagree with BIG and my pac choices,
Some people think wu tang forever is overrated
Ledgend of the liquid sword got mixed review
You probably dont like mobb deep?
any way those are my guesses
EDIT: tbh i havent been listening to rap for a long time, Or know much but those are my opinions so meh.
Ender 08-08-2005, 10:08 PM I know the track on the album. Putting the tracks up there dont prove its better than still Sorry!!!!!!!
Halftime 08-08-2005, 10:11 PM I know the track on the album. Putting the tracks up there dont prove its better than still Sorry!!!!!!!
I dont know how to put it, Ill have to bump lost tapes again, But seriously. Even if lost tapes is better than it was written. It was written is still better than still.
Donmega 08-08-2005, 10:12 PM Which ones.....................
oh nvm..............
golden_era 08-08-2005, 10:19 PM @Halftime
I aint saying your wrong. I'm just really difficult to please because I've heard Hip Hop at what I think is its greatest like PE, Main Source, Scientifik, KMD,Kool Keith, Showbiz & AG's, Pete Rock, Preemo etc etc.
I love Mobb Deep & Onyx all their albums which I think are tight but I dont consider them great.
I think Liquid Sword is dope as fuck legend was shiite. i think Ready to Die was tight but Life after Death is pure shite.
Eminem made some good albums especially his 1st two. Maybe his Marshall Mathers LP too. But nothing great.
Havent listened to enough of Royce 5'9 so I might be wrong on that one.
2pac made alright albums some were quite good.
The Spectrum 08-08-2005, 10:20 PM But most Mega Fans are disgruntled Ex Nas fans. So I see Why you think that illmatic and It was writting were great albums cause mega was on them shits
NAS > Mega
:(
I like Nas and I like Mega. I also love Lost Tapes, Stillmatic was aight, his last one was decent too. I just mentioned his first two cause those are like automatically classic and 95% of people would agree.
So dont make ya assumptions no more on me.
And yeah I might see how someone can like Lost Tapes better then It Was Written
Lost Tapes got a better feel and vibe to it, its more chilling.
Ender 08-08-2005, 10:23 PM I dont know how to put it, Ill have to bump lost tapes again, But seriously. Even if lost tapes is better than it was written. It was written is still better than still.
Yeah. Not to me it over.
What about scare face
The Diary, Last of a Dying Breed, The Fix
Sharpshooter 08-08-2005, 10:34 PM Urban Legend is out.
So many rappers have made more than one good rap album. I'm gonna talk about only mainstream artists, cause underground is a whole differnt story
Eminem, Dr. Dre, Jay-Z, Nas, Snoop Dogg, D12, etc.
Donmega 08-08-2005, 10:34 PM mine is 88-94
