I was just wandering how hard is it to produce/create beats for hip hop music. I was talking to this girl who is in a punk rock band and I asked her what was harder writing lyrics or making music and she said writing lyrics. She said it only takes basic music knowledge to have a good beat and rhythm especialy for punk rock but it can take ages to find the perfect lyrics to go with the music and most rock verses are quite simple. Even though she is not into hip hop she respects the lyrical aspect of it as she knows how hard it can be to write a song but she belives creating/ producing hip hop beats takes no musical knowledge what so ever and anyone with a computer and loop music programe can do it.

I want to know from all you PC producers at home how hard it is and does it take any music knowledge.

its hard if you dont know what your doing. i find it quite easy but i've been doing it for years. if you can compose a beat in your mind, add a bass line in your mind, and other instruments you can do it on a computer. the hardest part is learning to use the software. i think its one of those things where you can either do it, or you cant.

as far as music knowledge, not really. you just need to know what you want your music to sound like. i've been listening to hiphop for years, so therefore i'd say i have a good knowledge of music. but this isn't the traditional type of "knowledge of music" that you mean. writing music, compositions and shit, na you dont need that. lil jon is one of hip hops best producers and he doesnt compose music, he just makes the music how he feels. where as scott storch is a traditional pianist so he writes music.

but creatively.......coming up with a banger, or something really emotional, that hits you, that's what seperates producers apart
