View Full Version : Do You Really Think its UseLess Classes??
The Obscured 11-07-2005, 03:54 PM Ya know, in middle school and high school, me and alot of people used to complain about certain classes that we thought were irrelevant to living in the real world. Even to this day, some people (not me) still argue that some classes are just not important. Do you agree/disagree??
The critizied classes were, History, Science, Geometry, Calculus, etc..
According to some people, we only need math and reading..
WHHAAATT???
Vokals 11-07-2005, 04:00 PM it depends on what u want to major in in college... so i guess they give a round about of all catagories of education... i thought most classes were pointless... but oh well
Dominate 11-07-2005, 07:15 PM Well it really depends on what you want to do when you leave school... I guess they firgure you're not mature enough to make that decision until the later years of your education... which seems fair to me... I probably wouldn't have continued with math after the ninth grade if I didnt have to... but now that I want to be an engineer I'm glad I did... I'd be pretty rooted without all the calculus I know...
As for the subjects which, arguably, nobody would need to know for society to function (i.e. History) ... I think it's more about expanding your mind and learning HOW to think not WHAT to think etc... which I'd consider a pretty important thing in real-life... "to be educated" is more than how much you know...
.Inphinite. 11-08-2005, 03:31 PM ^ Yea... I agree. Different subjects of the cirriculum teach the student something different. For example, in maths/calculus, it'd teach the student how to follow a set of steps in order to reach the answer; whilst in Art, some aspects of the module/course will try to enhance your appreciation of objects around you, and how to use them effectively; and a subject such as History will enable the student to use facts to form an analysis/opinion of an Historic event, as well as giving a broad educational knowledge of the past.
D^Coy 11-08-2005, 04:22 PM I'll tell you what classes are useless.
-Having to take Introduction to Computers at three different schools (middle, high, and college). They should just have students take a diagnostics test one time and one time only. From there, the student should choose to go ahead with more college classes or just try something different.
The only classes i find very usefull are math related classes, any english (reading, writing, etc), science, and some history. Once you get into college, it becomes a whole new problem. You'll be facing around 7 classes a semester. Most of those classes are "required" (money wise) while the others are there to actually teach you something! Imagine that! Hell, tuition has gone up so much, most people are going into the army, navy, marines, and air force. It's like the first 9 months of it is equal to 3 years of college, cause right when you get out (depending on your chosen subject) you're enabled to get a $20/hr 40+ hours a week job.
BTW, who here besides me got away with not having to take a different language class in high school? I think I told them i was doing visual basic...

JDiggy 11-08-2005, 04:55 PM Algebra you don't really need. I can't see where you would be using that in life.

^ You may not personally need it, but other people in your class may want to become engineers in their career and therefore need a very good understanding of algebra/calculus. They won't achieve their goals or fulfill their potential if they didn't teach it at school.
At my High School your required to take these classes to graduate:
1 Full Year of Athletics
Communications, Health
2 Years of a Forgein Language
1 Year of Art
1 Year of BCIS (Basic Computer [Intergrated Science?])
Which are all pointless.........
(3 years of math, 4 years of English yada yada the core classes)
Im in an advanced computer course (Internetworking Tech. II) but I have to go back and take BCIS.....which is stupid.
*Toby* 11-09-2005, 10:20 PM in high school i was 100% sure i was gonna be a cop and not need to goto a 4 year college. I complained about every class i had b/c Brit. lit wasn't gonna help me as a police officer. 2 days after graduation i got arrested. and hated cops ever since. Now I plan on being a Lit. Major. lol funny how the class i absolutely hated b/c it was "POINTLESS" is now wat I want from life.
H_O_V 11-12-2005, 07:18 PM Unless you are or are going to become a professional athlete dont take gym to get in shape. Just take APC.
sT iLL maTic 12-18-2005, 01:30 PM lol I like the useless classes...easy grades help my GPA. I'm currently taking foods and sports entertainment marketing...they may be useless but they'll look good on my transcripts.
Seist 12-18-2005, 05:52 PM They give us all these classes so we could be cultured. One subject relates to the other, so with teaching them it will help you gain a wider view on the given subject.. I am for teaching History, Science, Art, Technology and the rest of the crap they give.
lilwjohn 12-30-2005, 02:07 PM i dont no why we gotta take history
who the fuk gives about it? n what does it matter?
-Maple- 02-04-2006, 08:53 PM i think school itself is ridiculous.. anyone watch THUGS ANGEL? with pac, it includes a 30 min interview with a 17 yrold Pac.
n i agree with what he says. i only need to know math, reading and writing... that's it..

n as far as AP US HISTORY..whats the fuckn point in learnin about history... i mean we suppose to learn history to look back on mistakes made by man kind.. but obviously, we make the same fuckin mistakes with iraq n shit. whats the point in learnin about history if we cant benefit from it

Your statements are kind of ironic. You say school itself is rediculous, then prove that you need school from the dumb ass statements you've made.
Ender 02-07-2006, 02:24 AM all science is pointless
If they were pointless you wouldnt be on the computer right now.
