Presenting the Artist of the Month in the Industry & RW...
My industry choice is going to be very controversial and i know no-one here will agree but it it's... *drumroll*...
Lady Sovereign
Yes! I said it, Lady Sovereign. I used to hate her and avoided her like the plague but this month she's been releasing some catchy stuff and has managed to get herself signed to the Roc. Who else do you know that done that? (Except SAS) Here's her profile:
At only 18 years old, Lady Sovereign has become one of the most widely appreciated and anticipated female MCs in the UK. Hailing from Neasden, North-West London, the self-proclaimed “Cheeky Midget” Lady Sovereign cannot be ignored. Her gritty personality and unique MC style booms out of her tiny 5ft 1" frame with an incredible sense of wit and lyrical flow that has already won over many fans such as Mike Skinner, Steve Lamacq, Wiley, Obie Trice and Sticky.
Lady Sovereign has recently supported Obie Trice on his sold-out UK tour, Dizzee Rascal to a rapturous response in London, and The Streets at a packed Astoria, she is lined up to play some of the biggest festivals of 2004, including The Love Music Hate Racism event at Finsbury Park and The Respect Festival at Victoria Park. Despite her teenage years, in a short space of time she has developed a dazzling performance with an intense live set.
Having recently had major features in magazines and newspapers such as, The Face, NME, Touch, Blues & Soul, The Independent and The Guardian, and with major features coming soon in The Sunday Times, Rewind, Tense, New Nation, Jockey Slut and Pick Me Up (cover of 1st Edition), Lady Sovereign’s status is rising rapidly and she has become THE artist to watch out for.
Currently recording tracks for her debut album (to be released early-2005) with producers Medasyn, Sticky and Mike Skinner. Her debut single “A Little Bit Of Shhh!” is released on May 24th (White Label). The single is already playlisted at 1xtra FM and has received a great response from the underground through to the mainstream. The genre defining fresh sound of Lady Sovereign is getting everybody’s attention.
