View Full Version : Hip Hop Quiz 2006
golden_era 01-20-2006, 03:21 AM Dunno if its been done before but here is a Quiz:
I'm doing one old school (early-mid 80s) question:
What was the name of the first official Hip Hop anthem used by DJ Kool Herc?
Which group originally recorded it?
Who's backing group was this?
One new school question (87-94)
The D.O.C. said there is one book all MC's should read. What is it?
And a modern question (94-present)
Who did Zev Lov X morph into?
Rules whoever answers the question can ask a question on that era only. (A couple of years overlap is allowed).
The last question is easy so that you all can start asking questions on modern Rap music. The first is quite hard and I think only a handful on this board will know it. The second one is common sense and should be quite easy to get.

golden_era 01-21-2006, 10:20 AM MF DOOM (ALL CAPS When You Spell The Man's Name!)

golden_era 01-21-2006, 10:22 AM No one is getting close with the D.O.C. question. No-one is getting close though. But I ain't giving any clues yet.
Kronologik 01-21-2006, 12:02 PM Guessin either a holy book like the Quran or the Bible
Or his own book?
Haha, I can't answer any of them! I'm such a poser!
golden_era 01-21-2006, 01:20 PM Guessin either a holy book like the Quran or the Bible
Or his own book?
Close. but not a religious book(or his own).
swordfish 01-21-2006, 10:08 PM Shit, i cant answer any of those. I should really read up on some more hip hop before i completely lose it....
golden_era 01-22-2006, 09:51 AM MiZZlePleXed your turn to ask a question if you want on 94-present Hip Hop.
Massive Hint for D.O.C. question - Its a book that contains nearly word ever said in Hip Hop.
Hint for Kool DJ Herc: The band that released the version used by him was the Incredible Bongo Band.
Feral 3 01-22-2006, 09:57 AM Apache?? to the kool herc question
Encore 01-22-2006, 11:01 AM Massive Hint for D.O.C. question - Its a book that contains nearly word ever said in Hip Hop.

golden_era 01-22-2006, 03:26 PM A dictionary??

Apache?? to the kool herc question
Correct do you know who's backing band originally recorded it though....

golden_era 01-25-2006, 07:41 PM I don't know and i don't see how it's hip hop related either, i got the hip hop question right........
It was Cliff Richard lol, and it was Hip hOp related cuz his backing band theShadows inadvertantly created the first Hip Hop anthem.
Anyway you can ask a question if you want on all three eras as those who got the questions right dont wanna.
Feral 3 01-25-2006, 08:08 PM I think you should just ask another question, i cba to think of anything hard enough to be worth asking, i just wanted recognition for being a clever kid, i thought about cliff richard and tom jones too but i didn't think they were that old

Old School
1) The cover of this 12" is Designed by Jean Michel Basquiat and is considered to the rarest Old School 12" (Record), give me the name of the record or one of the two artists who were on it.
2) Released in 1986 what is widely consider the first new school/golden era record.
3) Releasing his first EP in 1995 who has in the past few years has worked with DJ Danger Mouse.
I've made them easier (they can all be found on the web) as the first set of qu's were to hard .
Plug Zero 01-26-2006, 11:49 AM Excuse me if this sounds totally idiotic but,

1) Rammelle Z - beat bop...that's the rarest old skool record I know, I have no Idea if Jean Michel basquiat designed it though. .
Didn't look on net. . .so embarrassment is possible...

The*Realness 01-26-2006, 07:38 PM C-Cold already said it but 3 obviously is MF DOOM.... i cant be bothered to look up the other 2 right now
golden_era 01-26-2006, 07:48 PM I apologise if MF doom released his 1st EP in 1995. I dont believe he did, he released other Lps before hand. But I was thiking of another artist.
golden_era 01-26-2006, 07:53 PM After looking through his bio. MF doom did not release an EP in 1995.

It is another aritst I'm thinking of. Im not that lazy to put a question which has the same answer as before.

O, alright, it was a somewhat vague question then, because he is the obvious answer to be working with DJ Danger Mouse nowadays, and i thought his first KMD releases were in the early 90's and a '95 EP would qualify but i guess he never released a 95 EP...
For #2, my first 2 original guesses were Public Enemy - It Takes A Nation of Millions... and Run-DMC - Run-DMC (first album, self-titled), but they were too obvious of answers and i'm not sure the exact dates, to my knowledge Run-DMC's self-titled album was released before '86.. but you say its one of the most influential groups in Hip-Hop so i'm guessing one of them
Plug Zero 01-26-2006, 08:55 PM 2) Run DMC - Rasing Hell
^^^That came out in '86

Edit: Sorry Giant Steps, didn't mean to ignore your question. We posted at the same time.

You're very close, substitute the lyn Collins for something else and you'll have it. Hint - it was used in an old Gangstarr song.

Don't Curse 02-03-2006, 02:01 PM Name the producer:
Have quietly served as a member of A Tribe Called Quest's production team, have been scoring hits for Busta Rhymes, De La Soul and Pharcyde.
Has helped crafting albums for Common and Q Tip.
He became known as a major hip-hop prospect by the late 90s. The hip-hop community took notice of his no-frills, breakbeat-heavy hip-hop style.

No... Ali Shaheed Muhammad was a member of ATCQ and became known as a major hip-hop prospect in the early 90s... But the producer I am talking about has probably been inspired by Ali...

Correct... Or J-Dilla
Don't Curse 02-03-2006, 08:18 PM Name the Group and the members:
Their innovative vocal techniques focusing on the method of the freestyle, as well as a successful infusion of hip hop and jazz established the group as forerunners in the sub-genre of jazz rap, also placing them amongst prominent West coast underground rap acts of the early 1990s like Hieroglyphics, Abstract Rude & Tribe Unique, and The Pharcyde.
The group was formed at the Good Life Café in LA during the early to mid 80s. Orginally they were just a group of friends that met up at the Good Life's open mic sessions. The orginal group consisted of over 50 members, but only 5 persons (4 rappers and 1 producer) is really worth mentioning since they released 2 classic albums...
Plug Zero 02-03-2006, 08:33 PM Jurassic 5
