How do you feel about his methods of getting everyone to give their opinions and never telling his thoughts only commenting on theirs?

View Full Version : So Who Loves Socrates? Royalty 02-12-2006, 01:06 AM How do you feel about his methods of getting everyone to give their opinions and never telling his thoughts only commenting on theirs? Kronologik 02-13-2006, 09:15 AM One of the greatest football players in Brazil's history And yes I do know that she was referencing the philosopher, smart asses funk_M 02-13-2006, 10:47 AM One of the greatest football players in Brazil's history and one of the fattest players in the history of Garforth Town. The Socratic method is a genius way of teaching, and i'd be happier in my Ancient history lectures if the tutors folowed his teachings. It allows students to be more open in their opinions and stimulates debate rather than teaching through dictation and slideshows (obviously talking about the Socratic method in modern day teaching; not saying ancient greeks had slideshows) To be honest i also liked Aristotles way of teaching which was very similar. He got his students to do studies on the constitutions of different greek cities and notable 'barbarian' cities.....then claimed the work as his own. That's genius. THE TRUTH 02-13-2006, 10:54 AM There are many people in modern life who are far more enlightening then Socrates and Aristotle. They just dont receive the recognition because of who they are. There are no such thing as 'teachers', just 'observers'. funk_M 02-13-2006, 11:49 AM That wasn't the point, and i disagree with your comment about teachers. Even if you don't believe there are teachers, 'commentators' would be more fitting a description than 'obsevers'. And if you get a chance, read Thomas A Mappes. He his a modern day philosopher. Bertran Russell has some good reading also.
