first off, let me state that vocab in a topical battle or poem is not about bigger words... its about using words that someone wouldn't think of using but still convey the same message in a similar or better manner... simply put, its about stepping beyond the normal and making your words grip peoples' minds...

in my opinionNYC didn't have that... he set out in a simple way to tell another goddamn reagen story (i can't tell you how many fucking people i've seen tell the exact same story in a topical, upwards of 15)... he told it with usually simple wording and didn't make me want to read on... i knew, through his word choice, that he was going to force some multies on panama canal and blah blah blah...

secondly, for multies, alot of NYCs multi combinations are very forced and throw off the conherency of the piece...

examples:

Corporate maids amuck, greedy-n-planning-"laws"-banal
To dictate through the treaty-of-Panama's-canal

doesn't completely rhyme... the hyphens are misleading... b/c the words "planning" and "panama" don't rhyme... period... give me any fuck up accent you want... they don't work...

then i tell my character's story on a personal abduction he thought happened to him...

he sees scenes of carnage and blah blah blah...

finally, he awakes and finds that it was his imagination, everything we thought was an abduction was dream/drug induced...

there are hints/metaphors for drug related connections throughout the piece...

basically, everybody has their own opinion about topicals and im not going to argue with anybody... however, i've probably had more experience than most here and i'll tell you what i've observed concerning topicals: its not about sticking to the topic completely or big words, its about using words nobody would think of and taking the topic somewhere new... those are the two main key parts of topical writing, as i've seen in my experience...
