Provisional squad:
Robinson (Tottenham), James (Manchester City), Green (Norwich); G Neville (Manchester United), Ferdinand (Manchester United), Terry (Chelsea), Cole (Arsenal), Campbell (Arsenal), Carragher (Liverpool), Bridge (Chelsea), Beckham (Real Madrid), Carrick (Tottenham), Lampard (Chelsea), Gerrard (Liverpool), Hargreaves (Bayern Munich), Jenas (Tottenham), Downing (Middlesbrough), J Cole (Chelsea), Lennon (Tottenham), Rooney (Manchester United), Owen (Newcastle), Crouch (Liverpool), Walcott (Arsenal).

Standby:
Carson (Liverpool), Young (Charlton), Reo-Coker (West Ham), Defoe (Tottenham), Johnson (Crystal Palace).

:( Dear God... I'm absolutely speechless... Theo MOTHERFUCKING Walcott?????????????? He ain't even played a Premiership fucking game this season, I wanna eat this monitor and beat somebody to death with the keyboard. ERIKSSON YOU FUCKING MEDIA PUPPET, DIE HORRIBLY YOU SWEDISH CUNTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT

I swear if I ever saw that man it'd take 4 sturdy men to hold me back from ripping his oesophagus out with my bare hands. What a fucking clown.

FUCK YOU MR. ERIKSSON, FUCK YOU WITH A JAGGED METAL POLE

So we've got Rooney who's injured, Cole who hasn't played 90 minutes in over 6 months, Hargreaves who can't even get into his clubs first team, Jenas who's injured, Campbell who's having some sort of mid-life crisis and has been in his worst form since his early days at Spurs, a beanpole who can't score to save his life, Owen who hasn't played since December, Bridge who to my knowledge is still injured, and for reasons known only to Eriksson, the absolutely mind baffling inclusion of Theo Walcott.. I just can't get my head around that, I'd do time for that bastard Eriksson I swear down

Absoloutely pathetic... The best thing about the squad is the inclusion of Lennon and Downing who have been very good for their clubs throughout the season, and in particular the second half of it. Other than that, then just smh.

Why the fuck isn't Phil Nevielle in the stand-by selection? He's got the experience and is a better choice than Reo-Coker.

We'll be lucky if we get passed the group stages. Real talk.

I would discuss but you've said everything i wanted to say, other than the mind boggling decision to not include the highest scoring englishman in the premiership, darren bent, and instead include Andy johnson in the standby players. And why the fuck doesn't he tell haregreaves to fuck off, seeing as he doesn't do shit for england.

Sven is a retard, he even said his decision to include walcott was not based on logic but he had a 'feeling' about it. Thank christ he's fucking off

A "feeling"? So we're going to the World Cup on a wing and a prayer???

There is nothing that would give me more satisfaction than beating Eriksson to death with a plastic spoon

Hold up, Hold up... I've just realised that Sven has got Hargreaves in there ahead of SWP, Walcott ahead of Bent and Young ahead of Wes Brown...

The fuck this Swede thinking??

^^^Lord only knows...

No Ledley King, who can play either in defense or as he's proved with great effect for England, as the holding player in midfield. Considering the tactics Eriksson plays (score one then sit back and invite the opposition on) you'd think a position he'd like to have in his ranks is the holding midfielder. I can't see that midget Canadian kraut with a perm Hargreaves doing that... What does Hargreaves bring to any team? Is it just the fact that he's so versatile?

Eriksson: He can play right back, right wing or centre midfield, he's a very versatile.

Yes Sven, but he's shit at right back, shit on the right side of midfield, and hey presto he's shit in the centre...

Isn't King doubtful for the World Cup though? I know Rooney is, but seeming as though the Swedemeister is thinking of taking 4 strikers which includes a 17 year old, a 7 foot tall spack and the founder of the "hamstring pull society", you'd think he could fit in someone half decent as a backup. Why not take 5 strikers? Defoe instead of Hargreaves or Jenas. I mean, say you're losing, you're not going to put on Jenas or Hargreaves to turn the match around, coz they can't do it. They're obviously not going to start, so why fuckin take both of them? I'd rather have Kieran Richardson than Hargreaves, at least he wants to play. But to take 3 fit strikers and a 4th striker who is very doubtful to feature at all is just baffling

Sven seems to think that hargreaves can turn matches around.....he's done it in countless matches "right, we are losing....who shall i substitute...hmmm...i'll take off joe cole and put on hargreaves.....i'll replace lampard with defoe and hey presto we have the smallest attacking unit in the world, including a defensive midfielder who can't play for his club....and what shall the tactic be....hmmm...long ball. Foolproof. £4 million a year...easy money." The twat

King has the same injury as Rooney but to a lesser extent and he's about 4 or 5 weeks ahead of him in terms of recovery. Jenas is also injured but I dunno how bad that is, even then and as a Spurs fan, I don't think he should be going. Although a Spurs fan in my local made a good point about Jenas' energy levels, when it comes to 15 minutes left he's still got amazing energy getting box to box. Agree with you completely that we need to drop one of the midfield, in an ideal world it would be super-perm Hargreaves but Sven must be bumming his Dad. We've got four strikers, one whos never played a match this year, one who is clearly never going to be fit in time, one who's never played a Premiership game for his club and as our leading striker and as far as I can see the only one definite to start, Crouch.

Bent must be absolutely seething though, highest scoring English player in the league and he ain't even on standby. I think Defoe is a better player but he ain't been playing regularly. Either way he needs to take one of those two, if he doesn't he needs to be hung from his intestines.

We have to look to our midfield to carry us through, Shearer made a good point in the paper yesterday, play Carrick in the holding roll and Gerrard off the front two. We all know he is there cos he does it week in week out for Liverpool, it'd also put more emphasis on Lampard to control the midfield more effectively. It's clear as day that Lampard and Gerrard are too similar, if they both play in the middle it means Gerrard has to hold back because Lampard is always going to be the furthest forward of the two. Stevie G could well be our most important player this year, he just needs to grab hold of games by the scruff of the neck like he does for Liverpool.

There goes England's chance of winning. Why would ou pick an unexperinced 17 year old forward when you could be missing two forwards due to injury. And he doesn't even have Bent on stand by but he has Johnson that guy is overated when he was the leading second goal scorer in the premiership a couple of seasons ago most of those where penalties.I'm glad the U.S. has a good manager but FIFA screwed us w/ the seeding and now where in a tough group.

I reckon the only way it'd work is if you did it like this:

Robinson
Neville...Terry...Ferdinand...Cole
Carrick
Beckham...Lampard...Cole
Gerrard just behind Owen

Mainly coz Crouch doesn't have the same effect on the game when he starts, he's much better as a sub because it throws the opposition's defensive gameplan into chaos. This usually means that they put 2 defenders on Crouch, leaving Owen free, like against Argentina. Carrick can sit and hold, and can even attack when necessary because he has a great engine and is comfortable on the ball. He makes the defence more solid, and would work well with Lampard, giving him more freedom to get up and support Gerrard and Owen. Gerrard could even swap with Lampard from time to time and take on defensive midfield duties if necessary. Just makes it more flexible given that Rooney's injury fucked up Sven's foolproof 4-4-2 plan that he was definitely going to use.

But still.....wtf @ Theo Walcott, Jermaine Jenas and Owen Hargreaves :(

^^^lmao

I agree entirely with your gameplan and I have a feeling it's similar to what Sven has in mind, though whether it's Stevie G he plays off the main striker remains to be seen. I think he should though, he plays there week in week out for Liverpool and he's their star man more often than not, Cole is perhaps more attack minded but he's proved himself pretty useful on the left so I'd stick with him there. Only thing is will Owen be fit enough? He was meant to play on Sunday but apparently didn't feel comfortable with his foot. The good thing is that in Lennon, Downing and yes, even Walcott, we have 3 relatively unknowns who love running at players, those 3 could really hit opposition teams for six, although to have all 3 on at the same team would be like revenge of the midgets. Im almost warming to the idea of Walcott now, even though I as many others have no idea how good he actually is. He doesn't deserve the place for a second, but David Dein gave Sven a blow job to rectify that and even the most devout England fan isn't going to match that offer, so all we can do is hope the prodigal child is all he's cracked up to be and makes a name for himself.

And yes, Crouch is a good substitute to be able to throw on and mix it up, considering that England can't help but use the wings and hit aimless crosses in even when the towering presences of Owen and Defoe are the strikers, we might as well have somebody who will stand a chance of winning headers. Even if he has got a head like a 50p peice the lanky mong
