I'm surprised this thread hasn't been made yet.
The Big Bang has crazy production, and Busta's lyricism has both gone up in some areas, and fallen in others. But it's a good feel, and the album overall is clearly going to make it. With lots of guest appearances, he goes bar for bar with each of them, and his strength is in the gritty New York style he was raised into. He paints a lot of pictures with this one, which he wasn't so good at with his last great album, "Genesis". ("It Ain't Safe No More" was wack. Anyone who doesn't agree hasn't listened to Busta's previous albums.)
Fave Tracks
Been Through The Storm (feat. Stevie Wonder). This track is pure hip hop, pure pain. Wonderfully orchestrated. Busta murders the last verse.
Don't Get Carried Away (feat. Nas). The beat resembles Eminem production, even though its not. Busta's rhymes are average. The highlight is Nas's appearance, who spits pure knowledge and STILL manages to portray a cold-blooded gangsta. Nas's flow is NASTY on this shit.
You Can't Hold A Torch (feat. Q-Tip) Probably THE best track on here, just because of the issue it addresses. Both spit old school, over a pure hip hop beat, and the hook is killa. They sampled Diddy for the hook so it says "I write rhymes, I write checks". Busta spits crazy, my favorite line being "I'm like a blessing to the game, when you're shit's outdated/ I'm forcing niggas to improve, you should be glad that I made it"
Gold Mine (feat. Raekwon) - New York shit. Nuff Said. This is gritty, raw, and New York, and these two MCs are taking it back to where it started. The beat is so sick.
Overall the album, despite the bad reviews its been getting because of his misogynistic vews and such, is definitely worth getting, and may be the only true piece of hip hop to come out this year from a mainstream artist until Nas's release. His singles were nice, but they only show one-side of this developed MC. You won't be able to see why Damon Wayans declared Busta to "be one of the greatest MCs alive" until you get this latest album. Cop this shit. Matter of fact, PM me, and I'll send you a link.
