8 Mile, Eminem's first leading film role, is now in stores across the USA. The 8 Mile DVD includes a "making of" featurette and never-before-seen footage available in both censored and uncensored versions. That exclusive content shows five rap "battles" shot during the making of the movie that feature spontaneous rap performances from Eminem and audience extras. There's also a music video for the song "Superman" that is only available on the DVD.

Eminem recently spoke on the movie and character he portrays, "OK, the movie is not my life, it's not my life story. I don't play me in it. I play a kid similar to me. His name is Jimmy Smith Jr. in the movie, and it's a hip-hop movie. I don't think there's been a Hip-hop movie yet that's had to deal with the music and been this dramatic and still be a hip-hop movie. It's a big construction. It's a big deal."

8 Mile was custom built for Eminem by Brian Grazer, producer of projects like A Beautiful Mind, Apollo 13, and The Nutty Professor. Grazer chose Eminem because of his charisma, and ended up appreciating the rapper's work ethic.

Carrying a movie is tough even for a seasoned actor, so Eminem had no problem following orders on the set. "I was cool with taking direction from Curtis (Hanson the director)" Eminem said. "Like in this game, in acting, I'm a student so I was there to learn. I didn't want to just step into something and think, you know, 'I got this.' You know? If I had that type of attitude, the movie probably wouldn't have come out as good as it has." source: raptism
