I've filled my harddrive, with mostly music so which would be the better investment, taking into account; cost, ease of installation, etc.

View Full Version : External Harddive vs Second Internal harddrive PeeJai 08-28-2006, 08:46 PM I've filled my harddrive, with mostly music so which would be the better investment, taking into account; cost, ease of installation, etc. D^Coy 08-29-2006, 01:08 AM It depends on what you're gonna use it for... External = good for dragging music, videos, and pictures around from PC to PC. Internal = faster uploading, drag and drop, size isn't an issue, fits in all towers An external drive could take 2 minutes to setup (depending if the product is plug and play). And internet drive could take 5 minutes to put in 1-taking off the tower 2-switching it from master to slave 3-putting the tape on 4-screwing it in 5-putting the tower back together Then you have to set it up with the CD it provides (some even ask you to configure it through your BIOS) which can take 2 more minutes. I prefer internal because I just don't like to see them lying around my room. Kronologik 08-29-2006, 03:56 PM I prefer external, because you can take it around to a friend's house and upload stuff off their computer onto it, and vice versa. Plus it's plug and play and really fast to exchange files. Depends what you're looking for out of it though PeeJai 08-29-2006, 04:22 PM I just need somewhere to store all my music, external seems like the better option, but if i remember correctly when i looked they seemed generally more expensive. Living Legend 08-29-2006, 04:41 PM External cos I have a PC and a laptop. Internals are more cheaper and are still easy to fit unless you don't have opposable thumbs. It's fast and reliable, plus it's a reasonable size. I've never bought extra internal memory so I couldnt really say which is better, but the external one I have does the trick. Esinem 09-06-2006, 01:39 AM Yeah, External would be much better then Internal.. but whatever floats your boat Philly. D Wood 09-06-2006, 07:34 PM imma try to get an external drive as well soon so thanx for filling me in SomethingAwfl 09-06-2006, 11:03 PM External's are more expensive AND slower. The only thing they have over Internals is that you can bring them around but how often do you need to transfer so many files that you can't just put them on your iPod and bring them to the place. Kronologik 09-07-2006, 10:29 AM Not everyone has an iPod ya bum D Wood 09-07-2006, 08:12 PM how much do external dirves cost??? what about internal??? say about 80 to 120 gigs... I aint got an ipod and when i start uni, ok its a year away but i will want to take all my music off my pc and take it with me... SomethingAwfl 09-08-2006, 07:34 PM Also, whether you get an Ext or an Int you still need a computer to hook it up to, and unless you are really computer-illiterate, you should be able to open up your comp and install the internal. If you aren't good with comp's, go ahead and by the external, they plug right into USB's usually. |
