I'm trying to decide which sort of laptop I'd prefer. I've heard a lot of good things about Acer... They're not huge here in America, but I've heard many good things about them from the UK. And their price on eBay for the specs is nice. Averatec is an even nicer price, with decent specs. Most of the Averatec laptops I've noticed average a 12 inch screen which I'm not sure I like. They seem new as far as brand names, does anyone know anything else about em? And then of course, ever since HP teamed with Compaq, their computers seem a lot better... and their price is still alright.

HPs and Compaqs are only good for spare parts.

Acer's are pretty decent. Averatec's are like dells.

Acer's the best value for the price...I'm thinkin' of getting one myself...

I got an Acer laptop last year and it hasn't screwed up once. Even though I don't use my laptop that much, it has never let me down when I needa place a bet :D. Whatever you do, DO NOT buy Sony.

I have an Acer laptop as well, which I don't have any problems with. I don't use it too much either though.

Ever since HP teamed with Compaq, they've been putting out pretty good specs.

dell really is the only way to go, for windows of course, otherwise buy a mac laptop, i want to the new one that dual boots windows/mac
