May I ask, what do y'all see in hip-hop most of all? Is it the portrayed image? What do y'all look for in a song? I guess the best way is for me to rate how I see it:

I look for rhymes, image, digital pixels, good directing, good producing, the artist rep, context of rap, etc. Am I missing anything? So for say Chamillionaire's Grwon and Sexy:

Rhymes 10/10

Image 9/10 Wasn't as glimmering as I thought it could be.

Directing 10/10 Everything was perfect timing for me.

Digital 6/10 Good luck getting this video online.

Rep 9/10 Even though he's new, his reputation is solid.

Rap 10/10 Tight flow. He kept to the subject of the song.

Bar usage: No rating I really didn't notice how many bars were used.

Chorus 10/10 Very catchy! Couldn't get it out of my head!

Overall 64/70 or 91% (9.1/10) Very good song. Well put together.

I look for flow, beat, rep and rhymes. Not so much image or those other things you mentioned. One of my favorite songs doesn't really have that strong of a chorus, and I still like it. And then there's songs with a good chorus, but still an overall bad song.

well if ur talking about the music video and the song itself here is my problem with t he video:
It shows alot of women, preparing to go down a runway and how they are getting ready with occasional shot of chamillionaire. I dont like this video at all. I feel it should be a one on video with chamillionaire and one other girl. The song itself is a "gangster" love song. the video is all wrong for it.

Rhymes 8/10 -

Image 5/10 He doesnt potray the image as grown to me in this video.

Directing 6/10 The transitions were to sudden and fast for a song of this tempo.

Digital 6/10 Idk what digital means.

Rep 9/10 Even though his other singles Ridin Dirty was a tottaly different style of song, i feel its alright for even the "hardest" of rappers to do songs like this.

Rap 7/10 It had its moments

Bar usage: No rating I really didn't notice how many bars were used.

Chorus 10/10 It was catchy, best part of the song imo

Overall - Idk feel like doing math...

a much better video that potrays the feeling and energy of a song for me would have to be Lil Jon - Snap yo fingaz... http://youtube.com/watch?v=0iIg-1vSKdQ&mode=related&search= no flaws in that video at all

Very funny! LOL. But nah, for serious, I'm looking for... like Broomhead's comment: What do you look for in rap. It ain't gotta be Chamillitare, it can be anyone. I just used that example because that damn song stuck in my head. I went to this party... oh shit! Never mind. Forget it!

I would have to say it's a mixture of forces: technicality and just liking it.

There's plenty a song (artist even) which technically on paper is perfection. Well thought-out, produced, delivery recorded without flaw, good flow, tight lyrics, etc. etc. All those things can make one appreciate a good tune/artist - but won't necessarily make you love it.

On the other hand, there are tunes out there which I fucking love... just because I do, for no other good reason. A lot of these are from the 90's when I when was a teenager and therefore provide me a bit of nostalgia. But these are not great records, and some of them I would be even a little bit embarrassed to admit to.

Neither is a superior criteria - although technically picking a song apart is going to be easier if trying to dialogue with others about. Would be difficult trying to persuade someone that they don't like a tune which they actually, kinda, sorta, maybe do.

lol ok
i look for beats that i personally like, and if that person on that beat can rap
i can listen to people who can rhyme good over a shitty beat to, but if its lacking beat n rhymes i wont listen to it
or a good beat with shitty rhymes, i still wont listen to it
has to be dope beat, with dope lyrics

Of course, rap has lost it's old skool passion. The good old fashionate passionate ass-whuppin, and getting your shoes, coat and hat tooken... jk! Anyway, Rap used to be about feeling the pain of those who had nothing across the nation, now they're basically saying, "I got this, and you ain't! HAHA!" Of course, KNIVORY ain't helpin performing insanity rap...
