This tuturial is an easy way to learn how to fix up pictures to make it look professional and smooth..even make it look cartoonish

First open the picture...I'm going to be using this picture of myself.....
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v129/youngsta122000/startimage.jpg

Duplicate the layer 2 times and turn the bottom and top layer off...We're going to be working with the middle one for now.

We're going to Guassian Blur the middle layer...Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur

Im going to set it to 2.5..Just enough to be blurred but you can still see the image..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v129/youngsta122000/screenshot1-1.jpg

Then turn the top layer on...add a layer mask and then select the brush tool..choose a soft tip brush...Make the master diameter to 27. Set the opacity to about 86% and the flow to about 86%
Then with the brush go around the whole image except for the lines around the nose, eyes, lips and areas like that...

For the small areas inside the lips and eyes and ears put the brush diameter to 11 or as small as necesary.

After you have made smooth everything you wanted to make smooth duplicate the layer that is blurred...Set that layer to soft light and the opacity to about 29%...This will define the dark spots more on the face or around anywhere you did this.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v129/youngsta122000/screenshot4-1.jpg

Then duplicate the layer with the layer mask and set it to soft light and the opacity to 29%..this will give the image balance and make it seem more real.

Now we have given it that magazine cover/psd effect..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v129/youngsta122000/startimage2.jpg

To make it cartoonish looking i can just select all ...then Edit>Copy Merged and then Edit>Paste...This will make the images one...then I can play with the brightness and contrast ..First duplicate that layer..turn the new layer off and go to Image>Adjustments>brightness/contrast

Set the brightness to about -9 and the contrast to about +30
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v129/youngsta122000/screenshot5-1.jpg

Turn the other layer back on...Guassian Blur it to about 1.7 then go to Edit>Fade Guassian Blur and set it to Darken..Then set the layer opacity to about 18%
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v129/youngsta122000/screenshot6-1.jpg

Then there it is..this should be your final result
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v129/youngsta122000/startimage3.jpg

This is probably one of the quickest ways to do it..so this is really for beginners..it is my favorite way to do it because if you're working on a project it is quick and effective.
