View Full Version : Is the internet hurting hip hop?
B.I.G. 12-12-2006, 08:34 PM I jsut got XXL's new issue and one of the articles was about the internet and hip hop. The usual topics came up illegal downloading, and youtube. I fro one think that the internet is making rappers step their game up. At least for other music genres before i tunes came along, or free downloading, some artists would release maybe one or two good songs on a cd, and make the rest crap, just because theyre fans would buy em. But now i could just go online and buy one song on the album, now artists have to make it so the whole album is fire. What do you guys think?

X-Trapper 12-12-2006, 08:43 PM Don't forget me in general too, internet is the best thing to happen to men, and I think everybody on this board knows why. ^^^ especially him

Couldn't have put it any better. I wouldn't have half the songs I do if I didn't have the internet.
sindecal 12-12-2006, 09:07 PM The internet is straight bullshit man..bunch of bullshit fans talking bullshit.

Actually, the internet helps and hurts, but it's definitely not the worst thing to happen to rappers. I wouldn't listen or buy half the shit I do right now. The internet is a great marketing tool and helps get rappers names out. At the same time it doesn't help big name rappers mostly just underground artists.

You could always leave...?
Illustrate 12-13-2006, 12:29 AM The Internet if fucked! It hurts 10 X more then it helps
PAX DECEPTICVS 12-13-2006, 12:30 AM Would Jedi Mind Tricks have got into the Billboard Top 200 without the internet?

Record sales are at the lowest point since soundscan numbers have been taken. You can't argue with facts.
killa spits 12-13-2006, 02:07 AM That's not just because of the internet though. The record companies aren't going to make as much money if people are downloading songs free, but it's also their fault for pushing shitty music to the front (definitely not hip hop specific).
Auroura 12-13-2006, 02:17 AM the internet hurts way more than it hurts
it hasnt made anyone step there game up its made wzck rappers and goofy ass rappers into semi celebs.....
internet has made it cool to be underground and has made underground kinda mainstream.....
everyone in the rush to be as underground as possible comming up with the most obscure nerds from places who may love music but dont know what real hip hop is.......
they have taken the struggle away from hip hop and changed what people veiw and how they veiw it.....
some of this underground shit is complete and utter bullshit, papoose is nice but he aint no longer underground and he cant sell records for a reason........
mos def , talib kweli, pharoe monch are nice lyricist but they cant sell past a certain point for a reason.....
under ground means people that cant sell records and its because of one reason or another some fatal flaw they may have.......
the net has given these people an extra voice to plead there case and convnce more computer nerds and outcasts that they are living hip hop and are good, when in all actuallity they are stuck in the 80's and are not very good period
Juice. 12-13-2006, 08:59 AM ^ Yeah, real talk.
The underground isn't actually underground.
Gold. 12-13-2006, 02:52 PM Well I for one don't care that much... but I bet if I got a ecord deal i would lol. Yea, but they are all rich anyway, we aren't. And if they aren't rich rappers, I buy the album
sindecal 12-13-2006, 05:36 PM ^^most of them arent rich.see this is why i say UK dont know hip hop man..most of em dont got shit just rent shit..look at artists like chingy and shit..they really dont got shit just rented..
Gold. 12-13-2006, 05:38 PM ^ They're still millionares, ae we anywhere near that? They don't have to buy mansions, they could easily live in a normal house and be perfectly fine, they choose to rent and borrow because all they care about is their image
Internet; Best Invention since the blow up doll sex toy for men
idk how most of you can bash it
look at Jin, he started on HF forum and now hes got more money that anyone in this thread :( which is a shame cus hes pure shit
sindecal 12-13-2006, 05:46 PM All Rappers Are Not Rich!!..they're Not Millionares...established Artists Yes..not New Artists..whoever Thinks Chingy Is A Millionare Is Stupid.

Jins not too bad... he occasionally has a nice punchline
once every 100 bars or such lol
but yeah, it just goes to show that the internet has helped someone do what they want to do
from a internet rap forum to a record label
shit id take that
Gold. 12-13-2006, 05:54 PM I thought Jin started from that BET battle show though??? his internet battling wasn't that big a part of it I didn't think
never the less, thats were he started, on that site
omen knows more about that site than me, il ask him about it

...And so my point stands, it hurts mainstream...doesn't support my underground argument but the internet does help get underground emcees names out...
Auroura 12-13-2006, 07:26 PM look at Jin, he started on HF forum and now hes got more money that anyone in this thread :( which is a shame cus hes pure shit
thats exactly my point it gives shit rappers deals and records an they actually develop a following. its good for the individual but bad for the business as a whole. JIN should not have a record deal period point blank no question mark or coma.and the fact that he did is an indictment to the internet and the whole system....
fuck that shit people are underground for a reason, people dont selll for a reason.. jin aint sell cause he was just a nerd behind a comp and didnt know shit about being hip hop and living it, he didnt know how to make a decent song to save his life because he aint got it in his soul he was faking it..... he aint even that great of a battler in my opinion
