View Full Version : who do you think is the most overrated legend in hip hop ? Glenn Swagmire 01-04-2007, 01:00 PM who do you think is the most overrated legend in hip hop ? ^^^^^^^ .meZ 01-04-2007, 01:09 PM Biggie and Jay-Z "KingSolomDin" 01-04-2007, 01:15 PM IMO,...too much is put on biggie, pac and big L. i think they were good. not legends. Tom.B 01-04-2007, 01:23 PM Big & Pac for sure.....they only legends cause thier dead....lets be real. They were never considered legends when they were alive. ObnoxiousRapper 01-04-2007, 02:14 PM Jay-Z & 2Pac maybe. Brofski 01-04-2007, 02:45 PM 2pac and Jay-Z. Both have 1 nice album and a few other good songs... that's it. Nickel 01-04-2007, 02:47 PM Pac... .majiK™ 01-04-2007, 02:56 PM BIG, Pac, and Jay-Z.. if he is considered a legend. YeshuaBenJoseph 01-04-2007, 03:00 PM 2pac and Jay-Z word maybe dr. dre Alan Johnson 01-04-2007, 03:15 PM I think pac deserves his fame and legend stance... he led more then music... he's a true struggler who came thru Brofski 01-04-2007, 03:18 PM Maybe, but he's considered a Legned cuz he's dead. Simple as. Irate. 01-04-2007, 03:33 PM pac.. imo he had a few good tracks with deep meaningful lyrics and he had some real nice metaphors.. but i still think he's hugely overrated, people can say he struggled etc, but so do 99% of the people in this world.. Quale 01-04-2007, 03:57 PM LL, maybe DMC, Kool G, Easy E and Public Enemy I disagree with Pac being overatted, yea some of his shit is 2 commercial, but still he's the most talented Laking 86er 01-04-2007, 04:03 PM Jay-Z Pac woulda been a legend breathin or dead....Who knows, he coulda pushed the rap game more than you can imagine...lets not forget he only rapped for 5 years on his own before he died...His debut 2pacalypse now came out in 91, and he died in 96....Who knows what he woulda brought to the game if he was still alive...the man had mad ambition. saeed28 01-04-2007, 04:04 PM Kool G, and Public Enemy overated? WFT. Thats just wrong. If anything they are underated. For me its got to be jay-z. a couple of good albums does not make u the goat. Quale 01-04-2007, 04:13 PM PE, they are legends for sure, but I've seen in many places that they were voted the greatest of all time, that's why I wrote ''maybe overrated'' Ender 01-04-2007, 04:29 PM wha the fuck.... how can some one say pacs not a legden... you niggas crazy ass shit... pac would be a ledgen if he was still alive... i honestly can say i dont know if there is another rapper who has done more for rap than pac and jay-z.... yall niggas crazy ass shit Ender 01-04-2007, 04:30 PM i say run dmc..... thuggishruggish 01-04-2007, 04:30 PM jay-z..... only album that i liked from him was the blueprint -Maple- 01-04-2007, 04:34 PM i think tupac is a legend but he is overrated, thanks to dick riding fans PAX DECEPTICVS 01-04-2007, 04:36 PM It's a toss up between Tupac and Jay Z. Class!c 01-04-2007, 06:04 PM Yehp .. Jay-Z and Pac take the cake on this one .. how can you say Public Enemy !!!?? they are prob the most influential rap groups of all time .. Biggie and BIG L are legends IMO KatcH 01-04-2007, 06:24 PM LL, maybe DMC, Kool G, Easy E and Public Enemy I disagree with Pac being overatted, yea some of his shit is 2 commercial, but still he's the most talented G Rap is underrated if anything, I barely hear anybody him mentioned, he influenced a lot of rappers and has a few classic albums, for me he's top 10. Pac has got to be one of the most overrated, I really like him but he's not the great as most people make him out to be. Eminem gets overrated to, not by heads but by mainstream fans for the wrong reasons. naspac 01-04-2007, 07:11 PM biggie, most likely cause of his death Death Bed 01-04-2007, 07:21 PM Biggie is the shit anyone who thinks he's not a legend don't know fuck sorry but true listen 2 his first album that shit is straight fire especially for it's time..Pac is ill aswell so is Z...so wtf.....now 2 get things straight erm.... BEASTIE BOYZ....overrated...their BoneStarr 01-04-2007, 07:55 PM Its funny that someone made this thread... because the other day I was talking to someone about this after seeing MTVBase's Top Ten rappers ever... And obviously Jay-Z was number one. *SMH* Tupac and biggie were also up there, but the truth is that if you base these artists on record sales and as Hip Hop icons then they are actually Legends when you come to think about it. Don't get me wrong, I can't stand the sight of Jay-Z, and I hate when people just randomly throw out Tupac's name when you ask them if they like Hip Hop. But how do you characterize a rapper as a Legend? cus everyone has theyre own personal preference, so the best way is to look at how many records or money theyve made, its sad I know, but thats how it seems to be these days. I won't lie and say that I don't watch MTVBase or listen to the latest Jay-z or Nas track, but they are just Overrated legends, and Hip Hop needs them to stay alive unfortunatley My top overated Legends would be: 1. Tupac 2. Jay-Z 3. Biggie 4. P-Diddy 5. LL-Cool J PENIS 01-04-2007, 07:56 PM Big L .. yup Alan Johnson 01-04-2007, 07:59 PM nas is not an overrated legend! .ScottishHead 01-04-2007, 08:08 PM I seen G rap's name in there, wtf. I dont think anybody is overrated especially when so many people are sayin 2pac for example is overrated, how can he be overrated if so many people think this. The person that is close to overrated is BIG since he believed he was the greatest of all time, plus he had 2 good albums. Pen To Paper 01-04-2007, 08:11 PM G Rap and Big L are defmo underrated then overrated. I see what some are getting at with Pac and Biggie being overrated but I feel that they aint and both are getting the props they deserve Jay Z to me is overrated. He has fallen off and didn't have a load of good songs. Just a few good tracks now n then so I would def not consider him to one the best rappers of all time "KingSolomDin" 01-04-2007, 08:41 PM as far as y'all sayin jay-zs' not a legend,...i gotta disaggree. i think he's on that path. he got hits and still sell out shows. my man Esco up top threw L.L. as not a legend. long as that nigga still put out albums with atleast one hit on each and still brings in a crowd. Cool J been out since brothas was cool with wearing tight ass Levis and the first jordans. he aint the GOAT but i'll give him legend status. Ender 01-04-2007, 09:01 PM how the fuck is pac overated... and i dont understan when some one say "fans dick riding there music" how can a fan dick ride music its and oximoron. If you are a fan you like there music. Most niggas who think jayz is the best rapper ever (im not one of them) say his shit is the best ever cause they honestly believe that. I personnaly think NAS is the greastest nigga ever and i love pretty much all of his music ( beside i am and nastradomus, shit was wack) So to say a fan dick rides musaic is stupid... and to say a tupac fan dick rides tupacs music is crazy also. I admit that Pac fan over due it a little some times. But there is a reason that they do... Like i said he and JAyz are probably to of the most influential rappers of all time... JAyz told niggas to stop wearing throwback and niggas listeng. Tupac told niggas fuck the wrold and they listening.. I know at least 5 niggsa that got Only God Can Judge Me tattoos cause of pac.... So to say he is and overated ledgen is stupid ass shit.. To many people on this site beleive that just because some one is considered mainstream that they automatically loose credibility. No Way is Pac overrated. An no way is JAy Z overrated thekid8 01-04-2007, 09:08 PM The most over rated person in hip hop is jay-z because Kingdom Come was one shitty ass album it sounded like some kfed shit with a little bit better lyricism but yet people are still claiming it is the best rap album of 2006. Ender 01-04-2007, 09:20 PM ^^^ just because kingdomcome was wack doesnt mean jayz is not a ledgen.... that stupid.. he stiil the guy who put out RD and Vol 2 and Blueprint... just cause they are old dont mean that they never happened Alan Johnson 01-04-2007, 09:40 PM ( beside i am and nastradomus, shit was wack) I am was dope? how'd you not like that... Ender 01-04-2007, 09:42 PM just didnt... shti was wack to me... i hated nas for those two cd's feral 01-04-2007, 09:43 PM jay z .ScottishHead 01-04-2007, 09:46 PM Yeah I am... was dope NY state of mind pt2 hate me now small world ghetto prisoners big things nas is like money is my bitch undying love ^All good songs on I am. I agree that nastradamus is kinda wack, some decent songs but def his worst. Living_Symbiote 01-04-2007, 09:50 PM 2pac definitely!!!!!!!!! and if you dont think so go to blockbuster and compare how many documentaries and books and movies they have on this man compared to almost anybody else, except those that are politically important! If you take a poll on who the people's think is the best rapper they will say tupac, and i must disagree, people only acknowledged the fact that pac was a good rapper after he got shot, came out of jail, and got shot again, and rolled with one of the most prominent, heaavily-gang and dug-influenced label corporations to ever come to hip-hop (deathrow), constant law and police run-ins, and the women he had affairs with, not to mention the biggie feud that fueled the east coast versus west coast battle, all this combined to give this man such a magnetism that people automatically respect him as their number 1 rapper, think about it, if you went out to almost every hood or black school and said "fuck 2pac" you would be asking to get jumped, its a shame are fellow brothers would be willing to jump and fight over a man that lived and died and only cared about his money than we would malcolm x or martin luther king jr. 2pac is way overrated, and the thing is when you do ask a person why they say that 2pac is the greates rapper, they say "because he was a poet" What type of logic is that, we can all be poets in a way, it doesnt make our rap skills any much better than others, does it?? Ender 01-04-2007, 09:51 PM im sorry.. i just didnt like it... i hated hate me now... it just wasnt NAS... shinny suit with p didy and shit... i cant even look at that video... and i really cant look at that you owe me shit.. hell naw... oochie wallie... what he fuck was this nigga foing.. i didnt even like nas is like... i knoe premier was on the trackk but every verse was too long... and it just wasnt that hot to me .ScottishHead 01-04-2007, 09:54 PM im sorry.. i just didnt like it... i hated hate me now... it just wasnt NAS... shinny suit with p didy and shit... i cant even look at that video... and i really cant look at that you owe me shit.. hell naw... oochie wallie... what he fuck was this nigga foing.. i didnt even like nas is like... i knoe premier was on the trackk but every verse was too long... and it just wasnt that hot to me lol,I know what you mean...I dont like that video either, though the song wasnt bad IMO. Ender 01-04-2007, 10:01 PM 2pac definitely!!!!!!!!! and if you dont think so go to blockbuster and compare how many documentaries and books and movies they have on this man compared to almost anybody else, except those that are politically important! Aitn no body that have that much power overrated.. and the fact that he got even more power after he died dont mean he was overrated... look at jon linen.. or van gogh... they where even more of ledgen after they died.. look at the kenndys... Martin Luther King, MAlcom x.. they all acomplished more in there deatgh than they did when they where living, so that means nothing.. the fact of the matter... PAC and Biggie death changed hiphop for ever... and they will always be legdens in that respect if not anything else... that era was one of the most important for hiphop... They where the rappers that stood up to the fucking persidents wife when and dan quale... i still think that Pac has something to do with dan quale never winning the republican nomination for president in 96... lol... .ScottishHead 01-04-2007, 10:04 PM nah,I can never see why people say pac all the time as overrated. PyroclasticFlow 01-04-2007, 10:09 PM i think tupac is a legend but he is overrated, thanks to dick riding fans and thats why you have him in your signature. no room to call someone a pac dickrider. Ghost Deini 01-05-2007, 03:45 AM #1 - Pac, he is no doubt a great, but the media and his followers try to label him as a legend too often and he became very overrated IMO. Plus, all this crap everyone is doing with Pac nowadays is annoying. Like Pac's Life, with T.I.? Let him R.I.P. like Biggie. #2 - Jay-Z, outside of Reasonable Doubt, not really feeling much of his work. He has catchy beats and some good lines on some cuts, but nothing great. #3 - Biggie, like Pac the media hurt him, but at least he isn't still putting out new material that is 80% garbage. A legend to me would be someone like Rakim, Nas, Big Daddy Kane, ect. And, I do understand, Pac and Biggie never were given the chance to maybe someday be a legend, which is too bad. I'm sure neither would be putting out today's commercialized Hip-Pop if they were alive. -Maple- 01-05-2007, 03:55 AM hm... i also want to add Biggie, the guy has a way of rapping, like he's telling a story, and excellent flow, but he told lies imo.. i mean maybe i'ts nothing to you guys, but i cannot admire that -Maple- 01-05-2007, 04:09 AM and thats why you have him in your signature. no room to call someone a pac dickrider. oh so i dick ride pac? just cos i have sig of him? i like pac, alot actually, but back to the point. so what if i have pac in my sig? people got wu tang, nas in their sigs i said he is overrated as a rapper, because ALOT of people that DON'T listen to hiphop, when asked who's they fav rapper, they say tupac, asked for they fav songs they say cali love or changes...typical shit and that pisses me off why can't i have sig of Pac and call someone a Pac dickrider. i do not dick ride pac, lol. i never said he was better than kool g rap or big daddy kane or gza or WHOEVER!! Ghost Deini 01-05-2007, 04:16 AM i said he is overrated as a rapper, because ALOT of people that DON'T listen to hiphop, when asked who's they fav rapper, they say tupac, asked for they fav songs they say cali love or changes...typical shit and that pisses me off I agree 110% I think California Love was the beginning of the downfall for Pac's music. Stuff like Temptations and I Get Around gets overlooked by the mainstream garbage. slizz 01-05-2007, 04:28 AM IMO Pac has not only become a legend because he died... he was just so fuckin influential. I remember that sentence "One man hatin' another one made whole westcoast hate a whole eastcost and vice versa" or sumthin like that. And that was when he was alive. and by the way what the fuck you call that biggie duets album then? ain't that 80% garbage? Well whateva I gotta agree with maple I can't stand it when people who don't know shit about Pac say he's the best rapper. I just feel like they don't have the right reason. They claim he the best cuz of Ghetto Gospel or st. Ender 01-05-2007, 04:38 AM ^^^^ thank you these niggas are bias ass shit.... Ghost Deini 01-05-2007, 04:39 AM and by the way what the fuck you call that biggie duets album then? ain't that 80% garbage? Forgot about that. It still wasn't as bad as the Pac stuff recently. It at least had like Nas, Fat Joe, Missy Elliot, ect. You can tell with Pac's stuff, artists and labels are just trying to get paid and not really doing it in memory of Pac completely like they should. Still I agree, the Duets album was mostly trash. I wasn't trying to bash Pac or Biggie, I'm not really a fan of either, if any, Pac more. Although Ready to Die is a classic. Brofski 01-05-2007, 08:20 AM Biggie is the shit anyone who thinks he's not a legend don't know fuck sorry but true listen 2 his first album that shit is straight fire especially for it's time..Pac is ill aswell so is Z...so wtf.....now 2 get things straight erm.... BEASTIE BOYZ....overrated...their Nah man, they're underrated.... listen to Ill Communication... 5/5 album Laking 86er 01-05-2007, 12:12 PM LOL....I love how every time an over rated discussion comes up, it turns into a 2pac conversation and analyzation. How is he overrated....when you ask people if they like pac and they say, Yeah I love pac, they are not over rating this man. He had a persona, swagger, and an aura that people could just feel. Pac had heart, which made him probably the most likeable icon in hip-hop history. People liked his raw emotion, whether it be that fuck you in your face, cmon I'll take on the whole world at once style, or his soft emotional "Smile" side. People like the fact that he cared about bringing society and his people up from the gutter. This man posessed all of these great characteristics, and through his fame he was able to share himself with the world. So, people connect with this man. If you like a character that much, of course you are going to enjoy his music, and even more your going to enjoy and connect with what he has to say. Soooooooooooooooo, if it will make you feel better; yeah Pac isn't the best MC (even though he is still good)...but he is the best to listen to. So if people say pac's the best...its because they feel him more than anyone else who ever rapped, (and a whole lot of people feel this way) not because they feel he is the most lyrical, or has the best flow....they just feel his flow more than anyone elses....know what im sayin? Don't let it bother you so much peeps....its just the way it is....you either feel it or you don't. Sirius Black 01-05-2007, 12:20 PM Jay Z is overrated as fuckity fuck. YeshuaBenJoseph 01-05-2007, 12:25 PM not as overrated as phil collins though... Sirius Black 01-05-2007, 12:42 PM ^ Is he a legend in Hip Hop though? -Maple- 01-05-2007, 03:55 PM lol, is that how phil collins look like Sirius Black 01-05-2007, 04:00 PM Yeah, he's older now of course, he's like 55. Living_Symbiote 01-05-2007, 09:04 PM who can some one that holdss that much power be overrated? So, you telling me that people worshipping 2pac as if he were a god isnt being overrate, thers a line between great admiration and obsessing. So I guess since someone that holds that much power cant be overrated, Hitler most definitely cant be overrated is that what you mean? And Hitler was poor at the time and didnt need no music videos, beats or the necessity to get shot in 3 different situations , go to jail, and sport bandanas to gain crowd appeal to captivate millions of German men women and children. so your basically answered why he aint overated... Aitn no body that have that much power overrated.. B.S. go get shot 9 times and come out of jail and i GUARNTEE you will hold power over the black community, I GUARANTEE it! After all, it worked for 50Cent for awhile.. right? Until the next biggest thug in town, THE GAME came up, people were like "OOO, not only did he get shot 5 times, but he's from.. (gasp) Compton!!" So lets stop all this stuff about "no one can be overrated when you hold that much power". You must have never realized how easily people (who for the majority are stupid) are easily captivated by things that shouldnt even matter to us. Tupac was very appealing and had confidence and was a known hell-raisor, and people LOVED that image. and the fact that he got even more power after he died dont mean he was overrated... look at jon linen.. or van gogh... they where even more of ledgen after they died.. look at the kenndys... Martin Luther King, MAlcom x.. they all acomplished more in there deatgh than they did when they where living, so that means nothing WHO's post are you replying to?? Certainly not mine,I didnt even expound on his death yet.. You need to realize van gogh, jon lennon, 2pac biggie, the kennedys malcolm x all of them, were MEN, born with no superpowers, and no demi-god type stature. They looked, walked ate and slept in this world like me and you. That and by that fact only is the reason why a man can be overrated, the luck of circumstance... what would have happened if the first time pac got shot , which was in n.y. , and the bullets that were fired ricocheted into his heart and he died, what would have happened if his birth at the jail his mother was at, didnt go over too well, and he had a serious ailment or died, what would have happened if jr. mafia and the majority of the east coast retailiated to pac's antics? We never know there are a lot of what ifs. But most of the time the good oppurtunities happen to just be there at a certain times. Really just a draw of the cards, really! Pac just happened to show up in right places at the right exact time (Deathrow, Rap in general since nobody was doing anything close to the stuff he was doing at that time,Juice and other movies-helped majorly boost his image and forged his personality around a character he liked) Ender 01-05-2007, 09:17 PM i was feeling you untill that compton remark.....lol harmyd 01-06-2007, 12:52 AM Damn people....I'm a Tupac fan and I never get tired of his music. I also read some of his poetry and whatnot and I highly recommend that people go and read them...esp the people that underrate him. People will never get sick or tried of Tupac...he was original and not a phony. Hayzoos 01-06-2007, 03:02 AM 2Pac without a doubt, his dick gets road waaay too much especially since wasnt even a very good rapper in terms of sheer MC skills Double B-B 01-06-2007, 02:15 PM pac, big n jay r all legends, shit makaveli spit meaningfull, big poppa got charisma n his flow is sick, hov is the deepest nigga round. every single south side fuckers is overrated. .ScottishHead 01-06-2007, 02:18 PM pac, big n jay r all legends, shit makaveli spit meaningfull, big poppa got charisma n his flow is sick, hov is the deepest nigga round. every single south side fuckers is overrated. Hold on now,I hope outkast aren't included in that. Double B-B 01-06-2007, 07:26 PM ok, not every single, outkast n ti and a few others is pretty good Lyrical Abuse 01-06-2007, 07:27 PM jayz and tupac Juice. 01-06-2007, 07:38 PM Damn people....I'm a Tupac fan and I never get tired of his music. I also read some of his poetry and whatnot and I highly recommend that people go and read them...esp the people that underrate him. People will never get sick or tried of Tupac...he was original and not a phony. Not true. I was dickriding him for a good portion of my life. I only stopped 2 or 3 years ago, when I learned about "Lyrical skill"; something that Tupac doesn't have much of. Hayzoos 01-06-2007, 07:44 PM Nah man, they're underrated.... listen to Ill Communication... 5/5 album "Paul's Boutique" or "Hello Nasty" are their best albums IMO Hayzoos 01-06-2007, 07:47 PM Not true. I was dickriding him for a good portion of my life. I only stopped 2 or 3 years ago, when I learned about "Lyrical skill"; something that Tupac doesn't have much of. EXACTLY, thast what im sayin, i jsut wish more people would reallize that, instead of litening ot what BET and MTV tell them MurderousManiac 01-07-2007, 02:41 AM tupac for sure jay z yep biggie totally pac the most The FranchiZe 01-07-2007, 03:48 AM Overrated... Beastie Boys, for sure... annoying... some people do consider them legnedary... and I don't understand it... Snoop Dogg's overrated... Dre... maybe... but he's cool... I think 2Pac, BIG, Big L, Jay Z, Kool G, Nas, LL Cool J are all deserving of my recognition as legends. Some people just don't honestly rate someone when they let there personal thoughts of that person get in the way. Idk... Eazy E... I liked him... but legend? Eminem... he's one of my favorites, but ya know... Whatever... Blah... I like too many rappers... Brofski 01-07-2007, 09:53 AM Beastie Boys are underrated man.... They have some quality stuff out.. barely anyone on this site mentions them for some reason MurderousManiac 01-07-2007, 10:10 AM give me some good songs from beatie boys.
