Just when Western Canada was rejoicing in 50 Cent's upcoming shows, he's announced the postponement of his Winnipeg and Calgary dates.
50, joined by Fabolous were initially set to rock Winnipeg Arena on August 24 and Calgary's Saddledome on August 26. However, fans need not to worry as the dates have been rescheduled, not canceled.
The theory behind 50's rescheduled shows isn't expected exhaustion from a summer tour or countless hours in the booth, but the forthcoming MTV Music Video Awards, for which the G-Unit leader is nominated five times.
The VMA's are being held in New York on August 28, two days before 50's Calgary date and four ahead of his Winnipeg show. Also, it's safe to assume that 50 will be among the performers for the event, which usually requires rehearsal, sometimes a few days before the ceremonial night. In addition to preparing for a promising night, 50 is presently hitting the lab with G-Unit for the crew's debut LP due November 4, 2003. The project, set to be released on 50's G-Unit/Interscope imprint, will feature Tony Yayo (who is still incarcerated) Lloyd Banks, Young Buck and 50 himself with production from Eminem and Dr. Dre. "The standards that they set have enhanced me as an artist," 50 told Rolling Stone regarding his mentors. "We came up with different concepts for the record -- we had so many ideas. It's still street, but to be one way is not entertaining." 50 is also working on his sophomore LP, which he hopes to release early next year.
It seems as though 50 can do no wrong, raking up nominations and endorsements with Reebok and more recently Ecko for his own G-Unit clothing line. Though he's mainstream's superthug, 50 is ready to show another side of him. "In hip-hop you see more jerseys and athletic wear," 50 said. "I like dressing other ways too, so you'll see some different stuff. Something a little more classy."
