I know alot of people are gonna disagree wit this one but let me state my reasons

http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/7674/jayzvol2hardknocklifeof8.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Vol. 2 is not a classic by any stretch of the imagination but i've seen some serious hate for this album, sure Jay-Z is far from his best on this album but that doesn't mean he's terrible, it's a very commercial album but there are a good amount of enjoyable songs and it doesn't deserve all the hate it gets

i didnt like it that much, definately not his best. Smash Sumthin is one of my fav tracks ever though. Every time that first bit of the song comes in, fuckin quality.

It's definatley not his best, you're right, but i never hear anyone talk about it, it seems to have just been forgotten. I think it's pretty good, a fair amount of decent tracks : Lick A Shot, Real Niggaz, Enjoy Da Ride, and Smash Sumthin. also had some of the funnier skits ive heard.

Brother Ali -- The Champion EP
Brother Ali -- Shadows on the Sun

Sage Francis -- A Healthy Distrust (if Personal Journals hadn't sucked as horribly as it did, i think he would actually get credit for how good this album is)

on the opposite side of the coin...

everything Jay-Z has done since Reasonable Doubt is underrated. yes, including the life and times vol. 1... "You Must Love Me" alone makes that cd worth having.

Method Man -- Tical. Liquid Swords, OBFCL, and ghost's stuff get all the love, but the bottom line is that this sounds better when you just sit back and vibe to it. i listen to it more than any other wu music.

Illogic -- Got Lyrics. good whether you listen to the lyrics, or just vibe to the beat. great for the car, great for headphones.

so many more...

Slick Rick -- The Art of Storytelling.

Common -- One Day It'll All Make Sense. not his best, but still a good album.

The Hi & Mighty -- Home Field Advantage. sounds great, some good lyrics, this album was flat out fun.

For me......

1) Jeru the Damaja - Wrath of the math
His ryhming spot on and ahead of its time and typical premier beats, album over shadowed by Gangstarr releases.

2) Common - One day it will all make sense.
I heard some of his stuff before this album and liked it but I was bowled over by this album. Album over shadowed by his other excellent albums but beats on this album do not get enough credit.

3) Ugly Duckling - Fresh Mode
I think these guys are underated and this is their best album. I like there funky back to basics style like an old De La album.

Three not talked about must haves for me.
